This is the 9th annual Culture Days celebration weekend where thousands of artists, individuals, organizations and communities from across Canada host over 7,500 free, hands-on, interactive activities that invite the public to create, participate and share.

The cities of Port Moody, Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam will join 900 participating communities in celebrating Culture Days as we offer over 20 free events from Sept. 28 - 30.

Try something new! The Tri-Cities Culture Days weekend presents a unique interactive opportunity that invites the public to roll up their sleeves as they are welcomed to enter the behind-the-scenes world of artists, creators and historians. The events are fun, creative, family-friendly and free! Through Culture Days, we are committed to reaching the goal of having all Canadians in every community share their love of culture and making it a daily habit.

We will be reading the book «Ru» by Kim Thúy in French, which is about the journey of a woman named Tinh Nguyen who immigrates to Granby, Québec from Vietnam as a child during the Tet Offensive. We will discuss the book and the theme of genocide and how this issue effects the society that we have today.

Gallery staff will beon-site to offer tours and answer questions about Lululiving. Visit the interior of this 160 ft² home on wheels, built to re-imagine the possibilities for small-scale living. This outdoor installation is part of our gallery exhibition Germaine Koh: Home Made Home, where the artist explores notions of home, common space and civic engagement with a do-it-yourself, creative approach to building for art and the everyday.

PUBLIC ART SCAVENGER HUNTS

Across the country, communities, organizations, and individuals are hosting OnBeat events where drumming and/or rhythm-inspired activities are taking place during Culture Days. Look for the OnBeat events happening in the Tri Cities!

Drumming is:Universal – nearly every culture in the world has some form of percussion music.Varied – there are thousands of rhythms and patterns to explore.Accessible – whether someone is a toddler or a centenarian, they can bang a drum!Inclusive – collective drumming events are welcoming and designed to include all willing participants.Powerful – the rhythm of a drum excites the heartbeat, moves the feet, and stirs the soul.

OnBeat programming is not limited to drumming. Rhythm can make its way into many different art forms and cultural practices including dance, visual arts, theatre, digital arts and storytelling.

salmon sunday at Mossom CreekCome to a magical creekside place deep in a beautiful forest that offers photo ops galore! Enjoy salmon hatchery tours and feed young coho. Visit our nature centre and join us for refreshments on the patio. We’ll surprise you with stories and videos of the many wildlife creatures captured on our nature cams. Delight in our native vegetation teaching garden and check out our green roof. Learn about local native plants and their historic uses on guided explorations at 11:30 am and 12:30 pm.

Coquitlam Public art scavenger hunt In 2016, SkyTrain arrived in Coquitlam!
