please…be careful out there!

Dear Members,

This virus has hit hard and continues to batter us, seemingly with no end in sight. Many of us have family, both in and out of state, which have been affected. It is frustrating to have to wait for a preventive vaccine to be developed and that the treatment for critical cases can only be made in a hospital setting with specialized equipment that is in short supply. Let us all pray for a safe outcome for us, our families and for people around the world.

TRPC has been sending out updates as we receive them – everything from IRS bulletins to sales tax and family leave act applications. Take the time to read and review these, we would not send them if they were not important to you and your business. Persevere and try to take advantage of whatever forbearance is available and best for your situation.

It appears that some of you have taken advantage of some slow time in the shop to have your employees doing updates and training on the TIM programs. Paul Krisavage called and wished to relay to the membership his appreciation for your continued interest and participation in this most valuable program. If you have not yet obtained your TIM certification, there is no time like the present to

start the online process. Both the Responder safety Network https://learning.respondersafety.com/Training_Programs/Traffic_Incident_Management_TIM_Training_Resources_for_Emergency_Responders.aspx and the Federal Highway Institute https://www.nhi.fhwa.dot.gov have excellent programs available to you. Check them out and, if you have the shop time, start a training program for your personnel.

Please be careful to take all precautions yourself, and provide your employees with the information and supplies to keep everyone healthy, including:

• wash hands often and use antiseptic hand wash when soap and water are unavailable

• wear gloves and remove them properly

• wipe down all surfaces regularly with disinfectant

• wear a mask when unable to maintain a safe distance from customers and others in the workplace.

• keep people out of the offices, and maintain a safe distance in the service department.

The worse part of this virus is that it can spread – easily – to and from everyone in your family as well as your customers and employees. Take every precaution, be safe, stay healthy.

Membership meetings, legislative meetings and sessions, state agency meetings are all on hold while the Governor’s ‘Stay Safe, Stay Home’ Executive Order remains in effect. We will continue to stay in touch to keep you up-to-date. Please remember that the members of the Board of Directors for TRPC are volunteers with businesses of our own, and at this difficult time we are dealing with all the same issues that you are. While we are happy to share what we know and answer your questions as best we can, we ask for your understanding as there is only so much that can be done at any given time. A bit of patience will go a long way…we are all trying our best.

And remember…

Let’s Be Careful Out There!!!

The Wrecker Driver’s PrayerOh Lord, who watches from above,

who sees our every trial, I am a humble working man who’s traveled many miles.

The midnight calls and endless hours I spend within my truck,

I ask you, Lord for just the power to keep my life unstuck.I ask not for the laurels

nor the fame of worldly men, Just your hand upon my shoulder

and the strength to go again. And put your hand upon the men

who work along my side, That special breed of lawmen;

tough inside, outside kind. And when that final wrecker call

is in my distant past, And when I stand before your throne

and of my life you ask,I pray, dear God, That I may stand

and never be ashamed, Because each call for help was heard

and worked in Your Son’s name.

Amen

OBITUARYCorey John IodiceAugust 31, 1961 – April 22, 2020

Corey John Iodice, 58 of Seffner, Florida (formerly of Fairfield), died tragically, in the line of duty, on Wednesday, April 22, 2020. He was born in Bridgeport on August 31, 1961 to Russell and the late Patricia (Tupy) Iodice. Corey was a lifelong towing and recovery specialist who was well respected for his abilities to execute any recovery regardless of the circumstances. He was an anomaly in the towing industry and a consummate professional who was widely known as the guy who made safety his top priority. Corey took pride in working side by side with his brother Chris and their father Russ, during countless emergency situations for the Fairfield Police and Fire Services.

In 1991, they were each awarded a Civilian Service Medal from the town of Fairfield for saving the life of a victim involved in a horrific crash on Interstate 95. In his free time, Corey loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping, hiking and biking.

He is survived by his father, Russell, his siblings Robin, Cynthia (Connie), Keith, Christopher (Kristin) and Patricia. He will also be missed by his nieces, Kathryn, Jayme and Maddy, his nephew Roger and great-niece Elizabeth. He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Michael (Mickey) and Julia Iodice, maternal grandparents, Steven and Elizabeth Tupy, step-grandfather Adam Komosinski, mother Patricia, brother Brian and his dog Dude, his loyal companion.

A memorial tow truck parade will be held at a later date.

Memorial donations in Corey’s name can be made to: the International Towing and Recovery Hall of Fame and Museum at: 3315 Broad St., Chattanooga, TN 37408 or https://internationaltowingmuseum.org/donate/

Driver crashes onto flatbed truck on Merritt Parkway Wednesday, killing tow truck driver, state police sayBy CHRISTINE DEMPSEYHARTFORD COURANT | APR 23, 2020 | 7:52 AM

A tow truck driver died Wednesday afternoon when he was struck by a BMW on the Merritt Parkway in Trumbull as he was loading a car onto a flatbed, state police said.

Corey John Iodice, 58, of Seffner, Fla., died at the scene of the four-car crash. Three others, including the BMW’s driver, were treated but declined transport to the hospital, police said.

According to the state police, the crash happened in the south lanes of the Merritt, or Route 15, near Exit 48, shortly before 4:40 p.m., when Iodice was standing next to his wrecker’s flatbed, getting ready to remove a disabled Mercedes-Benz. Behind the truck and the Mercedes was an Audi whose driver had arrived to give the Mercedes’ driver a ride. All three vehicles were off the parkway on the grass.

For unknown reasons, the driver of a BMW, Dean Robert, 46, of Weston, lost control and struck the driver side of the Audi and Mercedes. The BMW then traveled up the truck’s bed, striking Iodice before rolling onto its roof, state police said.
