The E-Craneerection crew finishedthe first phase inOctober.Commissioning of thisnew 2000 Series E-Craneis planned for mid-November, followed byan official inaugurationon 16 November.
In the past, scraploading, unloading andstockpiling operations onthe dock were carriedout by contracted largerubber-tyred mobileharbour cranes. The firstE-Crane has proven itselffor several years and haspassed numerous testsverifying reliability andhourly production rateswith flying colours. Itwas time for VanHeyghen to moveforward again. The firstE-Crane has realized ship loading rates that were 100% higher (!)when compared with the mobile harbor cranes. The filling factorof the 12m³/15 yd³ grab with fast opening and closing times alsoprovides a substantial contribution in achieving theseunsurpassed loading and unloading rates. When loading
Handymax vessels, loadingrates of 3,500 to 4,000tonnes per shift are noexception for the E-Crane.

At the time of writing,commissioning of thissecond unit was planned formid-November. Theinauguration is set to take
place at the Van Heyghen Recycling terminal in Ghent at11:30am Friday, 16 November, 2012. The inaugural celebration isscheduled to begin on Thursday, 15 November, with an eveningof festive performance and dinner and ends Saturday 17November.
