지난 6월 7일 저녁 본 선교회에서는 감사와 감격 가운데 “샬롬장애센터” 헌당예배로 하나님께 영광 돌렸습니다. 300명 이상의 축하객들이 온 성전과 친교실을 가득 메웠으며 예배 후에는 여러 사람들이 주차장에서 저녁 식사를 할 정도로 성황리에 행사가 마무리 되었습니다. 센터 건물이 기대한 것 이상으로 훌륭하게 건축되었다며 많은 분들이 성전의 아름다움과 장애 사역에 합당한 시설에 찬사를 보내 주었습니다. 많은 기도와 헌신을 통해 세워진 하나님의 은혜입니다. 헌당예배에는 참석하지 못했을지라도 기도와 물질로 성원해 주신 여러분들께 감사드립니다.

저는 건물 구입으로부터 리모델 공사와 입당에 이르기까지 지난 1년간 쌓였던 긴장이 풀려서인지 행사 후 다소 심신이 피곤하고 힘들었습니다. 그러나 2-3일 후 몸의 컨디션이 회복되면서 지난 한 해를 회고해 보며 얼마나 감사했는지요! 성전 건축은 누구에게나 주시는 축복이 아니라는 사실이 깨달아졌습니다. 그리고 이것은 아마도 저의 인생 가운데 단 한번 주어진 특권이라고 생각됩니다. 고생이 많았다면서 저에게 위로와 격려의 말을 해주시는 분들이 많은데 사실, 저는 힘들었다기 보다는 오히려 은혜와 축복의 사간이었다고 고백하지 않을 수 없습니다. 성전 건축은 다른 어떤 기쁨과 비교할 수 없는 기쁨이기 때문입니다.

1957년으로 기억합니다만, 저의 아버님은 목회자가 아닌 평신도 (감리교 권사)로서 기독교인이 한 사람도 없는 우상 숭배하는 시골 동네에서 처음으로 교회를 건축하셨습니다. 처음에는 천막교회로 시작하여 그 이듬해 손수 땅에 기초를 놓으시고 냇가에서 벽돌을 찍으시며 목수 한 사람을 데리고 든든하게 교회를 지으신 것입니다. 약 50년간 그 교회가 사용되었으니까요. 저는 당시 초등학교 1-2학년생으로 친구와 벽돌을 나르던 생각이 납니다.

On the night of June 7th, with thanksgiving and overwhelming emotion, our Ministries gave glory to God by holding a special service to dedicate the “Shalom Disability Center”. More than 300 congratulators filled up the sanctuary and the fellowship hall, and the event ended with such a great success that many people had to eat their dinner in the parking lot after the service. All the people gave compliments on the building’s beauty and the suitability of its facilities for the disability ministry, saying that it was built more wonderfully than they had expected. This is God’s grace that was built

through many prayers and sacrifices. We give thanks to those of you who have supported us with prayers and offerings, even though you were not able to attend the dedication service.

I was somewhat tired both physically and mentally after the event, perhaps because I have been relieved from the tension that had built up in me for the past one year, from the purchase of the building to the remodeling and move in to the new building.

But, after a few days, as my physical condition was restored, how thankful I was looking back on the past one year! I realized the fact that building a church is a blessing that God does not give to everyone. And, I think this probably is a once in a lifetime privilege that was given to me. There are many who give words of comfort and encouragement mentioning that I must have gone through a lot of trouble, but actually, I must confess that those were the times of receiving grace and

예수 믿고 구원받았는지 생각하면 감격이 북받쳐 오릅니다. 하나님께서 얼마나 기뻐하셨겠습니까! 개인적으로는 아버님의 헌신을 통해 우리 4남매 중 3남매가 장로와 목사가 되었습니다. 그리고 한가지 꼭 언급하고 싶은 것은 당시에 저희 집은 매우 가난했다는 사실입니다. 여섯식구가 초가집 방 한 칸을 세들어 살았으니까요. 예나 지금이나 성전 건축은 돈으로가 아니라 하나님의 은혜로 되는 것이라고 믿습니다.

이제 “샬롬장애센터”가 지역사회 장애인 가족들을 하나님께로 인도하는 구원의 방주가 되기를 소원합니다. 마음껏 하나님께 예배드리고, 찬송과 기도가 끊이지 않는, 그래서 하나님의 영광이 늘 떠나지 않는 거룩한 장소가 되기를 소원합니다.

특별히 오는 7월 8일에 개최하는 기금 마련을 위한 컨서트 “휠체어 사랑 이야기”는 부족한 사람의 독창회로 준비하고 있습니다. 지난 62년간의 삶을 찬양으로 간증하고자 하오니 부디 오셔서 함께 하나님을 찬양하며 영광 돌리시기 바랍니다.

blessings rather than suffering. It is because buildinga church is a joy that cannot be compared with

any other kind of joy. From what I recall, it was in 1957 when my

father built the first church in an idol-worshiping, country village where no church was in existence. He did so not as an ordained pastor but as a lay person (a deacon in a Methodist church). It started as a church that met in a tent. And in the year that followed, my father personally laid the foundation, molded bricks by the stream and built a solid church with the help of a carpenter. They utilized that church building for approximately 50 years. I remember that as a first or second grader in an elementary school, I, along with a friend, helped carry the bricks from the stream. I am overcome with emotion when I consider how many people have come to believe in Christ and received salvation as a result of the church planted in that village. How elated God must have been! On a personal note, through the commitment and sacrifice of my father, three out of four children in the family have grown up to become pastor and elders. One thing that I would really like to mention is the fact that our family was extremely poor at the time. To illustrate, our family of six members lived out of one room which we rented in a thatched house. I believe that now, as it was then, building a church is not done by money but by the grace of God.

Now we desire that “Shalom Disability Center” be an ark of salvation that leads the disabled and their families in the local community to God. We desire it to be a holy place where we can freely worship God and where hymns and prayers are offered continuously so that the glory of God can never depart.

Specially, as inadequate as I am, I am preparing for a recital for the upcoming “Love Story on Wheels,” a fund raising concert which will be held on July 8th. In the form of praise, I would like to share my life testimony of the past 62 years so I ask that you would please come and join me in praising and giving glory to God.

할렐루야! 샬롬의 중보기도팀이 시작된지도 어느덧 10년이 되었다. 10년 이라는 시간을 되돌아 보면 모든 것이 하나님의 은혜였다. 그리고 늘 뒤에서 중보기도자들의 수고를 기억하시며 살펴 주시는 사모님의 사랑을 잊을 수 없다. 기도팀이 지금까지 존재하는데 큰 힘이 되신 박성칠 사모님께 감사의 마음을 표현하고 싶다.

매주 금요일 중보기도 시간은 목요 예배를 드린 다음 날이라 간혹 너무 피곤하고 지칠 때는 “하나님 저는 감당 할 수 없을 것 같아요. 변함 없이 기도의 자리를 지키시는 권사님들을 생각하여 제게 힘을 주시고 중보기도를 이끌 수 있도록 도와 주세요!” 라고 간절히 기도하던 때도 내게 있었다. 김옥례 권사님처럼 9년 전 건강한 모습으로 오셨는데 지금은 지팡이를 짚고도 기도의 자리를 지키시고 계시는 기도자들 때문에 하나님께서 샬롬의 중보기도팀을 사용해 주신다고 믿는다.

10년이라는 시간을 함께한 중보기도팀에게 며칠 전 하나님께서 기도 응답의 큰 선물을 주셨다. 그것은 항상 내 마음의 무거운 짐이었던 아들 수린이의 회심의 사건이다. 8년이라는 긴 시간을 중보기도자들과 함께 울며 기도하였는데 그가 하나님께 돌아왔다. 집을 나갔던 탕자의 돌아옴에 아버지가 기뻐하여 잔치를 베풀듯이 중보기도자들과 함께 큰 기쁨의 잔치를 경험하게 된 것이다.“저를 위해 기도해 주셔서 정말 감사합니다! 주님만 바라보며 살겠습니다!” 중보기도자들 앞에서 고백하는 아들의 모습을 보며 우리 모두 하나님께 영광의 박수를 올려 드리는 순간은 기도자들의 수고에 대한 하나님의 최고의 선물이었다.

I Halleujah! It has already been 10 years since Shalom’s Intercessory Prayer Team started weekly prayer meeting. When I look back on the past 10 years it was all God’s grace. I cannot forget Mrs. Park’s love that really remember intercessory prayer’s efforts and take care of them. I want to express my gratitude for Mrs. Sungchil Park for enabling the prayer team to continue so far.

Every Friday morning the intercessory prayer meeting is on the day after the Thursday night worship service so sometimes when I am tired and worn out I used to pray to God in earnest, “Dear God. I don’t think I can bear it but please think of deaconesses that have stayed being prayer warriors steadfastly and give me strength and help me lead the intercessory prayer!” I believe God uses intercessory prayer team of Shalom because of prayers like deaconess Ok Rye Kim, who came in healthy 9 years ago, but now stand aided by a cane and still staying in the place of prayer.

After 10 years together, God has given us a big gift of prayer answered to intercessory prayer team. That is the return of my son Steve’s heart, who had always remained a huge burden in my heart. I had prayed with intercessory prayer team in tears for 8 long years and he has finally returned to God. Like the father who threw a feast in joy for the return of the prodigal

10년이라는 세월을 대나무로 비교한다면 이제야 겨우 한 마디가 생긴 것 같다. 앞으로 또 다른 마디가 자라야 하는데 끝까지 내가 이 자리를 지키지 못해도 하나님을 향한 대나무 같은 건강한 중보기도팀이 이곳에 있어야 한다. 지속적으로 기도의 불꽃이 꺼지지 않는 사명 감당하는 샬롬의 중보기도팀을 통해 하나님의 이름이 온 세계에 존귀케 되기를 소원한다.

son, I was able to have a celebration of joy with the intercessory prayers. “Thank you so much for praying for me! I will live for Jesus only from now on!” Seeing my son confess in front of the intercessory prayers, we all gave honor to God with a big applause. It was the best gift that God gave for the all the efforts of the prayers.

Pastor Moses saw my son coming in for Thursday worship service with a Bible in his hand was overwhelmed with emotions and prayed for him. Just watching him take pictures during the dedication service made him tear up moved by the Holy Spirit and said “I am so happy as if my own son has returned” and shared his joy. Intercessory prayers confessed “God is alive and He is good!” They cried together and laughed together and praised God. I give thanks, lift Him up, and give glory to God for giving me the best day of my life after serving as an intercessory prayers for the past 10 years.

When I compare the past 10 years to a bamboo tree, I feel like I barely grew a node. We must grow another node but even if I cannot be there till the end, the intercessory prayer team must stay healthy like a bamboo growing toward God. I wish that through Shalom’s intercessory prayer team that keeps the spark of prayer lit and carry out the mission, God’s name will be lifted up all over the world.
