Instrument RoadMap
• The first light instruments will be an IFU and a diffrac4on limit camera (HARMONI, MICADO like).
• MCAO and LTAO modules also foreseen at first light

Status of the project
• E-ELT requires the consensus of 10 out of 16 participating countries: – “to consent” means to pay an
additional contribution in cash plus an increase in the annual contribution to ESO budget
• E-ELT requires to have 90% of the expected cost (1083 M€) available to commence
-- 650 M€ (60%) are secured today

Problems
• Brazil Started the nego4a4on to join ESO in 2009
• On Dec 30, 2010 President Lula da Silva signed the membership agreement
• Since then the agreement is pending approval of the Parliament
• Earlier 2013 the first “wrigen statement” was issued.
• The agreement could be possibly be signed during this year
• Any “Serious” ac4vity is delayed to 2014

• Industrial – Participation to the construction of the Telescope: M4, M1, Main
Structure, etc. – Participation (or leading) the construction of the instruments: Large
Free-Form Optics, Advanced AO instrument, Holography and new materials - high added-value expertise.
