DESCRIPTION

Accompanying blog post here: http://www.mybizperforms.com/e-mail-marketing-rules-are-changing-in-south-africa/ Small businesses often inadvertently fall into the trap of spamming with well intentioned e-mails. This deck tries to educate with a bit of humour thrown in. It is however a very serious topic, not only are the returns diminished when not acting according to industry standards and the law, the most important thing - your reputation - can be severely damaged. In this slideshow the pitfalls of e-mail marketing are touched on, the most common errors, and how not to look like a spammer with a handful of must do techniques to avoid turning into a spammer and sending e-mail that is against the law. I hope you find it interesting and/or entertaining, if you do, please share and leave a comment :)

Don’t be that person.

Page 20: E-mail marketing: You're killing your reputation

Don’t do email (SMS, MMS, etc.) marketing that nobody wants.

Page 21: E-mail marketing: You're killing your reputation

Do become an awesome person people want to hear from any time. Pitch or no pitch.

Page 22: E-mail marketing: You're killing your reputation

And follow some of these simple rules

• Always ask permission for adding people to a database (simplest way: have a subscribe form on your website, use Google Docs if you haven’t got a website)

• Provide a simple unsubscribe link (use a mass mailing software that does all that automatically for you: Mailchimp, Aweber, et al)

• Send 80% quality content and only 20% pitch material to your list.

Page 23: E-mail marketing: You're killing your reputation

Guard your reputation

• People will know, like and trust you

• People will love your marketing

• People will love you

• People will buy from you

Page 24: E-mail marketing: You're killing your reputation

Would you rather be considered

• A spammer? • Or awesome?
