Handling Precaution for Optical Disk Drive & Media

    S.No Symbol DescriptionSafety Precautions

    Precaution to be taken

    1

    Do not drop the drive

or your computer system havingoptical disk drive

and protect it from severe shocks.

    It will

damage the drive or cause it to malfunction.

    2

Do not place the drive or your computer system in directsunlight.

    3

    Avoid low-or high-temperature environments

    4

    Avoid high-humidity environments.

    5

    1.

Do not move the drive or computer system while theoptical drive is in operation and do not attempt toopen the disc tray by force.2. Make sure to close all working programs beforeattempting to open the tray and always use theopen/close button.

    2.

Do not insert a pin into the emergency opening whilein operation

    1.

    4. Do not insert hands in the tray while in operation. This may cause damage to the product or humanbody.

    61.

Do not use cracked, distorted or damaged discs

    2.

Always make sure that the disc does not have a crackbefore use. If the disc has a crack (especially aroundthe center hole), it is recommended to make a copyimmediately and use the copy instead. When acracked disc is used continuously, the size of thecrack is likely to grow and this will eventually result inirreparable damage to the disc.

    3.

In particular, a disc with a crack on the inner tracksmay

    break while in use

Handling Precaution for Optical Disk Drive & Media

3 Do not expose the disc to severe temperature-fluctuations. This may lead to disk warping making itunstable while it rotates in the drive.4 Do not touch the surface of the disc.

5 If the disc surface becomes dirty with fingerprints, foreign substances or dust, the disc may notfunction properly

and it lead to excessive movement / wear and tear of drive mechanism

6 While the LED indicator is blinking, do not turn the computer system off, nor disconnect theoptical disk drive. Otherwise it may cause damage to the drive

    7

While dismantling the drive dont touch the lens .

    8

In half height drives after putting the media in the tray,

    do

not try to push the tray for

    closing,

    insteaduse only the open/close button.

    9 Don't use a hard

cloth, abrasives or solvents for cleaning the lens as that may scratch the lens

    in

    10

    Dos:

1 Place the disc so that it sits on its side on a flat surface

2 Handle the disc with caution to prevent damage from an external shock

3Place your fingers on the edge of the disc to hold

4 Clean the disc lightly with soft cotton cloth, starting from the center and move to the edge of thedisc

5 **Use only M3 X 6 screw for mounting the drive. Using screws other than M3x6 may causemalfunction

    6

In slim drives press the media gently in the centre of the tray so thatwhich will hold it correctly and then push the tray for closing.

    7

    Problem recognizing that there is

a disc in the drive, which leads to long read time and not

responding, but drive may function perfectly, then it's likely to be the disc that is the problem, so themedia should be changed immediately rather than trying with same media.

    Lens

DONOT attempt to touch or clean the lens with anyfabric at any cost. Cleaning it creates micro scratcheson the lens surface. These scratches deflect the laserbeam making it impossible for the laser to read the diskproperly.

    Donts:

1 Do not place the disc it under direct sunlight.

2 Do not scratch or place a label on the disc, this may bring excessive vibration in the optical discdrive and or the labels may get tangled to the internal mechanism of the drive

the slim type optical disk drive.

** Applicable only for 5.25 inch full height optical drive disk used in desktop computers

Note: ptical disk drive may or may not be available in your system.Depending upon the system model and ordering, o
