After my visit at the Better a Block event on Reo Drive last Saturday, I learned more about Project Reo, a grassroots community organization set to revitalize the neighborhood of Paradise Hills.

Project Reo formed after the completion of a community mural by students from High Tech High in 2016. The Paradise Hills community supported the students’ efforts by donating water, cleaning up the area, and helping paint the mural. Project Reo founders were inspired by the community’s response and wanted to give the neighborhood the sense of community they desired.

Project Reo was created and continued this momentum by adding another mural in the neighborhood, holding several movie nights and clean ups, and organizing Holiday in the Hills, a family friendly social event with crafts, games, food, and a low rider parade.

After listening to the requests of the community, five families from Paradise Hills wanted to create a space to enjoy local art, coffee, and continue to connect with neighbors.

On Saturday, June 24th, Project Reo opened Project Reo Collective, a coffee shop on 2335 Reo Drive, set to accomplish just that. It is a space in the Pardise Hills community for all residents to meet, collaborate, exhibit local art, and enjoy coffee.

“When a group of neighbors band together to make change in their community, the possibilities for what they can achieve are endless,” said Enrique Lugo, Founder of Project Reo and one of the Co-Owners of Project Reo Collective.

I commend this organization and business for their efforts to cultivate an environment where residents can take pride in their neighborhood.
