CII Trichy Zone organized a “Workshop on 5S”; a Japanese concept on

good Housekeeping, on 10 April 2008 at Trichy.

The objective of the programme were to create awareness of 5S concept,

implementation of 5S and also to help SMEs to stay internally competitive

through implementation of world class housing keeping practices.

Mr Senthil Annamalai, Chairman, CII Trichy Zone addressed the gathering

and Mr A S Venkateswaran, Member, CII, Trichy Zone & General Manager –

HRD, GB Engineering Enterprises welcomed the gathering.

Mr S K Ramanan, Chief Consultant, Pyramid Quality Systems conducted the

Workshop.

Workshop on 5S

CII Trichy Zone organized a Session on Environment & Health on 18 April 2008

in Trichy. Mr. M B Nirmal, Founder President, Exnora International made

presentation on Environment. There was a also a presentation on by Dr.

Chandrakumar, Managing Director, KMC Hospitals on Health & Hygiene.

Both the presentations were wonderful & enriching. We were highly

benefited.

An Interactive Session with Mr. Manikam Ramaswami, Chairman, CII Tamil

Nadu was organized by CII Trichy on 15 May, 2008 in Trichy. The objective of

the Session was to brief the members on the Agenda of CII Tamil Nadu for

the year 2008-09 and also to understand the aspirations of the local industry

in Trichy.

The Session was also addressed by Mr. Leo Ananth J, Vice Chairman, CII

Trichy Zone & Operational Director, GFT Technologies (I) Pvt. Ltd.

CII Trichy Zone organized a two day Seminar on PM Analysis on 21 -22 May

2008 at Trichy.

Mr S Srinivasan, Counselor, TPM Club of India the faculty of the Seminar

made the presentation on PM Analysis to the participants. The objective of

the Seminar was to give training on identification & analysis of Problems on

Shop Floor and manage them.

Maniammai University have organized a four day Workshop on Zero Budget

& Natural Farming from 5 – 8 July 2008. Mr. Subash Palekar, a pioneer in this

field, conducted the Workshop. The Workshop went on very well. Close to

500 farmers participated in the Workshop.

CII, Trichy Zone organized a Interactive Session with Mr Gopal Srinivasan,

Chairman, CII Mission on India @ 75 & Southern Regional Taskforce on

Development of Tier-II & Tier – III Cities and immediate Past Chairman, CII

Tamil Nadu on 8th July, 2008 at Trichy.

Mr Srinivasan addressed the participants on action plan for implementing

practical initiatives at grass roots level with the objective of placing India in a

formidable position in the emerging world order in consonance with India @

75 envisioned by Prof. C K Prahlad.

Address & Mr Leo Ananth, Vice Chairman, CII Trichy Zone delivered the

concluding remarks. The session was attended by 45 industry & Media

representatives from in and around Trichy.

SMEs have been globally recognized as an important sector for growth and

development. However, in view of changing global scenario, there is a need

to review the developmental agenda.

To provide a sustainable focus on the future growth and development of the

SMEs across Tamil Nadu, Confederation of Indian Industry, Trichy Zone

organized a “Session on SME Finance” at 06.30 pm on 10th July 2008 at Hotel

Sangam, Trichy followed by dinner.

The objective of this meet was to create awareness amongst SMEs about

financing schemes provided by the leading banks for up gradation and

setting up of new ventures. It will also provide an insight on the bank loan

rating systems for the SME sectors.

The Session was addressed by Mr Anil Nair, Regional Head – South, HSBC

Bank Mr. Rajendra Lodd, Branch Manager, CRISIL and Mr Praveen Kumar,

Manager – MSME, HSBC Bank.

Mr. Leo Ananth J, Vice Chairman, CII Trichy Zone and Managing Director,

eQuadriga Software Pvt. Ltd. Delivered the Welcome address. The session

was attended by over 50 delegates.

A Workshop on Effective Business Writing Skills & Organisational Internal

Communications was organized by CII, Trichy Zone on 11 July 2008 in Trichy.

The objective of the program is to provide comprehensive training on how to

record, retrieve and reach to others the information an organization has.

The training was conducted by trainers from K9 Technologies Pvt. Ltd.

CII Trichy Zone organized a first of its kind two days Inter Corporate Cricket

Tournament on 9th & 10th August 2008 at Bishop Heber College Grounds,

Trichy in association with the Trichy District Cricket Association.

In the Prize distribution ceremony organized today at the conference hall of

Bishop Heber College, Trichy, District Collector, Mr Soundiah IAS participated

and distributed the Prizes to the winners and the runners of the tournament.

During his chief guest address, he congratulated and appreciated the winning teams for their effort and

enthusiasm shown in the tournament. He quoted that it was a nice initiative of CII Trichy Zone to bring out the

Corporate Employees out of their business stress and to play a game of Cricket. He also told that it is important to

have a Cricket Stadium for the sport in Trichy to encourage and take the game to next level in the city. He

mentioned that Trichy is gearing up for the next phase of the growth and the District administration is preparing the

city equipped with all possible facilities and infrastructure to face the future challenges for the city.

He also invited the Trichy based industries and the son of the soil to contribute their support and energy towards

shaping up of the City and thereby building Trichy for a better tomorrow.

While addressing the gathering Mr Kalidas, Past Chairman, CII Tamilnadu and President, Trichy District Cricket

Association said that it is essential to build the spirit of the game in the city by providing all amenities to the sport.

He also congratulated CII Trichy Zone for their effort to build relationship and networking among the employees by

playing the simple game of Cricket.

Cethar Vessels Pvt Ltd won the CII Cricket for Fellowship Cup and the Rolling Shield. In the finals played between

Cethar Vessels and Vishnuraam Textiles Ltd “A” in the morning, Cethar Won the match by 67 runs. Mr Ranjith from

Cethar Vessels P Ltd was adjudged as the man of the match with 5 wickets in 4 overs. M/s Vishnuraam Textiles Ltd

received the runners up cup from the District Collector. (Score: Cethar Vessels: 125 for 5 wickets and Vishnuraam

Textiles: 57 for all out).

Mr Prakash from Vishnuraam Textiles Ltd was selected as the Man of the Tournament based on his excellent

performance in the entire tournament.

Earlier Mr B V Ramanan, Convenor – CSR Panel and Past Chairman, CII Trichy Zone and Vice President, Trichy

District Cricket Association welcomed the audience and briefed about the Cricket for Fellowship Tournament.

Later Mr Senthil Annamalai, Chairman, CII Trichy Zone proposed the formal Vote of Thanks. Mr K G Muralidharan,

Vice President and Mrs Kaveri Annamalai, Director, Vishnuraam Textiles Ltd, Mr Srihari, Head – HR were the other

dignitaries present in the Prize distribution ceremony.

Teams from Cethar Vessels Pvt Ltd, Anand Engineering, Vishnuraam Textiles Ltd, Lanxin Engineering, Sterlite

Industries, KMC Hospitals, SRF Ltd, Equadriga Software and BHELSSIA participated in the Tournament.

Confederation of Indian Industry, Karur organized a Training Programme on

5S on 11 April, 2008 at Hotel Residency, Karur.

The objective of the programme were to create awareness of 5S concept,

Confederation of Indian Industry, Karur organized a Training Programme on

Employees Retention on 12 June 2008 at Hotel Residency, Karur.

The objective of the training programme were to understand Employee

Retention Strategies, Techniques for retaining the Employees and Reduce

the Employee Turn Over.

The training programme was conducted by Dr. M M Balasubrahmaniam,

Director & Chief Consultant of COPE (Centre for Organizational and

Professional Excellence), Chennai.

This training programme was attended by around 35 persons.

Confederation of Indian Industry, Karur organized a Seminar on

Export Competitiveness & Export Finance on 27 June, 2008 at Hotel

Residency, Karur.

The basic objectives of the seminar were to enhance and promote export

among SMEs and to address their common problem related to export

finance.

Mr D Vijji, Convener, SMEs panel, CII Karur welcomed the participants and during the welcome address he mentioned

Karur is famous for its home textile. Overall Karur generates around $300 million dollars a year in foreign exchange

through direct and indirect exports. But it has a potential to double itself in the post WTO era. Moreover, the SMEs, which

form the backbone of the Karur Industry, need to do much more to reach its fullest potential.

He also said that CII National Committee on Export works very closely with the Directorate General of Foreign Trade in

the Ministry of Commerce and Industry for providing inputs on a regular basis for the Foreign Trade Policy of

Government of India.

Mr S Sivagnanam, Director, Micro Small & Medium Enterprises Development Institute Chennai was the Chief Guest for

the Seminar. During his address he said that the textile industry has got special Prominence in the history of India and it is

well closely knitted with culture identity. It is one of the oldest industries which occupy a unique place in our country. It

accounts for 14% of the industrial production, a major contributor to the country’s economy. It contributes nearly 30% of

the total exports and is the second largest employment generator after agriculture.

He also said the textile industry is composed of Tiny, Small and Medium Enterprises which face several common

problems like a) Inadequate Technology, b) Inadequate capacity of source the requisite raw materials and to market

products c) Inability to access institutional Credit d) Absence of product innovation and diversification and e)

Inadequacies in the area of infrastructure.

Mr K Narayana Menon, Dy. General Manager, Bank of India, Mr V Shankar, Branch Manager, Export Credit Guarantee

Corporation of India, Mr Joseph Jhonson, Development Officer, Foreign Trade also addressed the participants during

the Inaugural Session.

Mr R Srinivasan, Dy, General Manager, Tamilnadu Mercantile Bank Ltd., Chennai Mr R R Menon, Sr. Manager, Bank of

India, Coimbatore and Mr L Sadanandam, Dy, General Manager, The Lakshmi Vilas Bank Ltd. Karur made their

presentations on Export Finance and Exchange Rate Management at the Technical Session.

The seminar was attended by 80 representatives from industries and leading banks in and around Karur.

Karur to apprise the members and industry about the benefits offered by CII

and Painting Technology on 18 July, 2008 at Karur to understand the latest

technology on Welding & Painting for the benefits of the Industrial Workers of

Bus Body units based in and around Karur.

Mr P Thangaraju, Convenor, CII Karur Automotive Panel welcomed the participants and during his welcome address

he mentioned various types of welding and its proper precautions for safety.

He said Karur is a renowned centre for bus building industries. This is a unique feature of Karur and almost 90% of south

Indian bus bodies are being built here. The total business is estimated to be around Rs.250 crore per annum.

He also said that automotive industry is one of the key growth engines of the Indian Economy. Tamil Nadu is one of

the three main automotive hubs in the country today, accounting for about 25% of India’s automotive output. The

automotive industry has a history of more than 60 years in the state and has deep roots and tentacles into many parts

of the economy.

Dr A Raja, Senior General Manger, Welding Research Institute, BHEL. Trichy made a detailed presentation on

Improving Welding Productivity & Cost Effectiveness through Best manufacturing Practices.

Mr R Natarajan, Director, EGS Computers Pvt. Ltd., Chennai made a presentation on Cost Reduction and Value

Engineering for Bus Body Builders in which he highlighted designing of Bus Bodies in low cost method.

Mr S Sundaralingam, Commercial Transport Manager, ICI India Ltd., Chennai made a presentation on Painting

Technology for Bus Bodies in which he explained the ideal requirement – Bus Body Segment, responsibilities of the

Technical officers, training courses offered by ICI Paints and maintenance of paint shop and mixing lab. Mr K Srikant,

Area Sales Manager, Berger Paints India Ltd., Trichy also made a presentation.

This half day conference was attended by 85 industry representatives from in and around Karur.

Confederation of Indian Industry, Karur organized a Training Programme on

Six Sigma – Concept and Approach on 7th August, 2008 at Hotel Residency,

Karur.

Mr M Sivakkannan, Chairman, CII Karur delivered a welcome address to the

participants.

Dr M M Balasubrahmaniam, Director & Chief Consultant, COPE conducted

the training Programme. During this training programme the various topics

that were covered are Organizational Excellence, Impact of Changing

Business Environment, Customer-driven Concepts and Approaches, Six

Sigma - History and Development, Benefits of Six Sigma, Employee

Involvement, Methodologies, Approach and Training, Precautions and

Preparations and Certification Process.

This training programme was attended by 17 delegates.
