4 All Hands Product Guide • Green Edition

I often think about a quote from a Tom Hanks movie about baseball where he said, “It’s supposed to be hard. If it wasn’t hard, everyone would do it. The hard...is what makes it great.” I think that stands true for the men and women in the public safety field… firefighters, police officers, EMT’s and so

many others who serve. We have pride, dedication and motivation to do what we do… protecting and serving our neighbors.

In 2010, our staff worked incredibly hard to serve you… our customers. It was our goal to make drastic improvements to our website, our customer service and the future of All Hands® Fire Equipment.

In late September after nearly a year of research and development, we launched our new and improved website – www.AllHandsFire.com. Our focus was on a modern theme, easy navigation, increased security and improved visual and descriptive product information. And of course, to continue to offer very competitive prices!

Also in 2010, and moving forward we have made the commitment to ‘Go Green’! Initiatives such as this Product Guide – made of 100% recycled paper and printed with soy ink, are examples of how we are doing our part for the enviroment.

We had the opportunity to work with some great people this year. To name just a few; our friends at Wichita Fire Department where we outfitted all of their firefighters with Firefighter Escape Systems and Training.

We also worked with the FDNY to outfit and equip their second fireboat, like we did their first fireboat. There are so many other customers that we have met and worked with but don’t have enough space to mention.

All Hands® Fire Equipment is run by myself and my brother. We are proud to be a family owned and operated business, but of course we can’t do it alone. Our staff are tremendous, and work incredibly hard to accomplish our mission. To serve our customers.

Thank you, and remember… Be Prepared, Be Equipped, Be Professional™

Training is an essential component when purchasing Firefighter Escape Systems. Our programs are designed to build student confidence and facilitate “muscle memory” for the user. These classes are dynamic, easily understood and are proven, as has been demonstrated through our over 10,000 documented bailout jumps that we have supervised and instructed. Our training staff consists of over 20 instructors who are certified on our various systems. We have trained and worked with some of the nation’s largest fire departments, including Washington DC Fire Department, Philadelphia (PA) Fire Department, Boston (MA) Fire Department, Wichita (KS) Fire Department, Hartford (CT) Fire Department, Paterson (NJ) Fire Department and others.

We have also trained numerous career and volunteer fire departments in dozens of cities and fire academies. Training classes that are available for all of the Firefighter Escape Systems that we offer and can be held anywhere in the United States are:

End User / Basic Firefighter Escape Systems Class• Train-the-Trainer Class• Advanced Training Class• Annual Refresher Training Class• Combination Refresher /Advanced Class •

Firefighter Escape Systems have become an essential part of a firefighters personal protective equipment ensemble. The components that make up a Firefighter Escape System are designed specifically to function and work together to allow the user a quick escape.

The systems that we represent and offer include an Anchor Hook, Heat and Cut Resistant Rope, Descender (auto locking) and a carry bag. The System attaches to a firefighters personal harness, and allows a quick and rapid egress from an upper floor in the event that the firefighter becomes trapped or cut off by fire, collapse or other situation.

We believe that a system such as these must be pre-rigged at all times. This ensures that a firefighter can perform a rapid escape by only needing to establish an anchor point and roll out of the window. The Anchor Hook can be tied off or hooked around an object or placed at the window sill to create an anchor. The combination of a pre-rigging system and the Anchor Hook are critical factors in reducing the time firefighters spend in untenable conditions.

All Hands® Fire Equipment, in cooperation with First Due Training and Capital Technical Rescue, has become the leading provider of Firefighter Escape Systems and training in the country. We have trained and supervised thousands of bailout slides and firefighter escapes on a variety of escape systems and kits.

Avoid running your rope over rough surfaces and edges. And do not step on your rope, which can rub • dirt and debris into your rope’s weaving. Use anti-chaffing / edge protection, such as the PMI Rope Pads, Supermantle Edge Protector and Edge and Roof Rollers.

Select the correct rope for the use, and be sure not to overload. You can choose from a variety of PMI ropes • such as PMI Classic Professional EZ Bend rope, PMI Max Wear, PMI Classic Sport and others.

Use caution with Ultra Violet light exposure. Some ropes are “resistant” to UV light, but it is recommended • to reduce exposure.

Use compatible hardware. Make sure rope diameters are suited for the specific hardware, such as pulleys, • descenders, belay devices, etc.

Avoid rope contact with chemical liquid and chemical vapors.•

Care for your rope. Regularly inspect it, record inspections with a rope log, avoid exposure to extreme heat, • keep in a rope bag and when not safe, remove from an “in service” status.

WHat iS lel and uel?

Lower Explosive Limit:The Lower Explosive Limit (LEL) is the lowest amount of gas that will cause an explosion. Gas detectors vary in the level of gas that will set off an alarm (for example, 15% of the LEL, 20% of the LEL, etc.). Detectors that sense lower levels of gas will warn you more quickly of the presence of natural gas than detectors that sense higher levels.

Upper Explosive Limit:Upper explosive limit (UEL) is the maximum concentration of vapor or gas in air above which propaga-tion of flame does not occur or contact with a source of ignition. Above the UEL there is too little oxygen to sustain a flammable mixture.

Cleaning/Care

Failure to keep your protective ensemble clean will increase your risk of • death, burns, combustion and diseases.

Dirty gear is more likely to conduct heat and can potentially become • flammable.

Reflective trim on gear may not be as visible when dirty.•

Hazardous contaminants from incidents and accidents may be harmful to • firefighters health.

Clean gear lasts longer. Contaminants not removed from your protective • ensemble may be hazardous and shorten the life of your gear.

The NFPA 1851 Standard recommends annual Advanced Cleaning and • Advanced Inspection of all Bunker Gear.

Chemicals encountered at a job will, over time, break down the protective • properties of your gear.

Champion Tools and PAC Mounting BracketsAll Hands® Fire Equipment is an authorized dealer for both Champion Rescue Tools and PAC Mounting Equipment. These are amoung the best and most trusted brands in the industry.

Champion Rescue Tools was founded 20 years ago with a focus on the commercial tool market and has been engineering custom solutions for major automakers, energy companies and industrial firms. They applied their collective experience to create a unique line of tools for the fire rescue industry with the goal of saving as many lives as possible (as opposed to focusing solely on corporate gain). The resulting next generation of rescue tools engineered by Champion includes a broad range of features designed to generate more power, operate more quickly, and keep both operators and crash victims safe. These features include a much greater cutting and spreading force (2-3X more than many competitors), wider openings (to handle the posts on trucks, SUVs and other new cars) and stronger construction of the tools and blades.

Performance Advantage Company (PAC) is one of the leading manufacturers of tool mounts for mobile applications. What does that mean? It means that whether you need shelving for a truck, strapping brackets for a ship, or mounting brackets for fire equipment, PAC will deliver top quality solutions and great service.

The FORCE-3 Forcible Entry Set

Firefighters boots are essential to their personal protective equipment (PPE) ensemble. Fire boots should be comfortable, durable and compliant to NFPA 1971-2007 standards. A new fire boot by HAIX has these features, and much more!

The HAIX Fire Hunter Xtreme, Model #501605, is a 14 inch fire boot that is specifically designed for structural firefighting. It has key features that make this fire boot stand out!

One such feature that make’s everyday use easy are the large leather boot straps enabling firefighters to donthese boots in a hurry. The Fire Hunter Xtreme fire boot’s upper material is waterproof leather, hydrophobic and breathable. It’s moisture barrier is made with CROSSTECH® and is also waterproof, breathable, bacteria and chemical resistant and bloodborne pathogen resistant.

The inner Lining is also CROSSTECH®, with 4 layers, and features an inner Cambrelle® lining which is especially abrasion resistant and softly padded with breathable foam. HAIX AF® System (AF) flexible insert in the shaft/instep area stabilizes the foot at the ankle and thus prevents the famous “slipping and blisters” effect.

The exterior of the Fire Hunter Xtreme fire boot has an anatomically formed protective toe cap to meet ASTMF2413-05 standard for personal protection - protective footwear. The sole is a nitrile rubber shell sole, oil and fuel

resistant, self-cleaning tread, PU-shock absorbent wedge HAIX MSL® System, excellent thermal insulation against heat and cold, and high-voltage resistance 14 KV.

The HAIX Fire Hunter Xtreme fire boot has quickly become a popular and much requested structural firefighting boot.

As any firefighters knows, two essential tools in the fire service are the IRONS – a 30” Pro-Bar Halligan and an 8 lbs. Flat Head Axe. These tools go together, they “marry” together, and are a perfect combination for conventional forcible entry and more.

We have taken this perfect tool combination, and made it better! By placing an “Adz Bracket” on the top of the 8 lbs. Force Axe, we have made the perfect marry point for these tools to be connected. This improvement has now facilitated a more substantial attachment and allows the user to carry these two tools in one hand.

What’s included:30” Pro-Bar Halligan – A single • piece, steel drop forged bar.8 lbs. Flat Head Force Axe – with a • super strong fiberglass handle and an Adz bracket.

The Force Axe and Pro-Bar Halligan are used by fire departments across America, and are on every engine, ladder, rescue and special unit in New York City. They are also used by Captain Robert Morris of Rescue 1 (FDNY) in his forcible entry classes at FDIC, Firehouse Expo and elsewhere.

Partner K-12 SawThe Partner K-12 Saw sets the standard for Fire-Rescue operations.

Choose from 12” and 14”, as well as a variety of blades including carbide tip, diamond tip and abrasive blades. Designed exclusively for the fire service, pound per pound this saw is the most effective power cutter in the field. 6.1 horsepower, weighing an unbelieveable 23 lbs!

The Partner saw can be used for ventilation, forcible entry and special operations.

Fire is the third leading cause of accidental death. Make sure your family doesn’t get trapped in case of a fire or another emergency Place a Kidde Escape Ladder in every upper floor room. Hook the sturdy, no-slip steel brackets over the window sill and lower the lightweight fire resistant nylon webbing ladderso that you and your loved ones will be on the way to safety.

Whenever a fire breaks out, a quick and safe escape can be a matter of life and death. The Dräger PARAT C Smoke Hood provides at least 15 minutes of effective protection from the toxic gases and vapours emitted during a fire. The Dräger PARAT C hood is simply pulled over the head to provide the wearer with both respiratory- and eye protection, to enable an easier escape through the smoke. Dräger PARAT C is a “one-size-fits-all” hood - protection for everybody, even kids.

The Fox 40 Sport & Safety Classic Whistle is designed to be heard above ambient noise, the roar of engines, breaking waves and thundering gale-force winds.

The chambers are designed to self-clear when submerged in water. There are no moving parts to freeze, jam or deteriorate. This pea-less whistle cannot be overblown.

Reaching up to 115 decibels, the harder you blow, the louder the sound. These whistles can be

heard over a mile away. It’s faultless performance has made this whistle the preferred choice for personal safety and rescue professionals worldwide.
