General PropertiesThe coefficient of friction of dehonit® compressed laminated wood at cryogenic temperatures does not vary significantly from ambient temperature. The moisture absorption of our dehonit® impregnated grade B 740-1 is less than 0,7%.

Deutsche Holzveredelung Schmeing GmbH & Co. KG is one of the world´s leading manufacturers of compressed laminated wood. With over 50 years of manufacturing experience our meaterial has a proven track record with excellent results and references having been used as support and insulation material in the LNG sector worldwide.

Our quality management system has been approved to ISO 9001 since 1995.

All dehonit® semi-finished and finished parts are exclusively machined at our main production plant in Kirchhundem, Germany. Our second production plant, located at Sokolov in the Czech Republic, supports our main plant with the processing of the raw materials.

Worldwide subsidiaries, agencies and joint-ventures help us to maintain close contact with all our customers across the globe.

We regularly carry out cryogenic testing of our materials at our in-house laboratory and dehonit® is approved by all the major classification societies. For third party approval and external testing we work closely with some of the top Universities in Europe as below who specialize in low temperature testing.

Our in-house machining centre for finished parts is operated by an experienced team of engineers and technicians. We can produce all shapes and sizes as may be required according to your drawings and files using latest programming and machine technology on modern CNC machines.

The maximum mechanical strength of dehonit® can be developed in any direction by differing the arrangement of the layers and it can be machined to any accuracy approaching that achieved wih metals.

For many years dehonit® compressed laminated wood has been used in significant quantities for type C, Bi-lobe tanks and type A tanks (LPG carriers up to 83,000m³) in all major European, Korean and Chinese shipyards. Permali, which is part of deho group, delivered wooden supports for the world’s first LNG carrriers:Methane Pioneer, Methane Progress and Methane Princess.

On the first LNG Bardge, The Massachusetts, grade B 740-1 cross laminated material has been used as collision chocks.

Knutsen Pioneer, the world’s first type C tank LNG carrier, has successfully used dehonit® grade B740-1 compressed laminated wood supports. Norgas Skaugen installed dehonit® compressed laminated wood supports into the Multigas and Ultragas 10,000 m³ and 12,000 m³ LNG carriers.
