Practical Advice

Lots of warnings don’t help – “do not” often makes it attractive.

Accept that there is a risk which cannot be eliminated – try to minimise it by making learners self reliant and resilient.

Teach learners how to keep themselves secure – privacy settings on Facebook etc, credit cards, banking

Don’t try to cover everything at once – too much information swamps the learner

Ofsted

Change in regulations expected from Sept 2012 – safeguarding no longer to be a limiting grade.

“We propose not to continue to include a ‘limiting grade’ for safeguarding. We are proposing to judge and report on whether a provider is meeting their statutory safeguarding responsibilities in leadership, taking into account the impact on learners of the provider’s safety and safeguarding arrangements.”
