Your board has been busily working and I’d like to bring you up to date on several items.

First, thank you, Holly, for putting together our 2016 Budget. We deliberated for several days before ap-proving what you see on page 10.

The ad hoc Trophy Committee made sev-eral recommendations and we are following through. The board approved the creation of a Most Weight Pulled at the National Specialty trophy. Many thanks to Linda Kaminski and her committee for recom-mending a trophy to purchase. Please see page 19 for their se-lection.

Because the Best of Breed trophy was re-

tired at the 2015 National Specialty, an anonymous donor stepped forward with a large donation and the board approved the acquisition of the Best of Breed bronze trophy you see below.

The Trophy Committee also recommended that

we replace the Best in Sweepstakes trophy. We are in the process of re-searching a loving cup and base. All of the plaques on the current trophy will be mounted on the replace-ment trophy.

Teri Stanger, who is on the Trophy Committee, has vol-

unteered to create shipping crates so all of the new and current trophies travel across the country without being damaged. Thank you, Teri!

Which brings me to the topic of taking proper care of the trophies. The folks who take trophies home after gloriously winning them, are stewards of that trophy.

Trophies are part of the GSMDCA permanent collec-tion and large sums of money are being spent to replace, repair and main-tain them. Please do your part in keeping them safe

while in your care.

Please check these pages and the Events Calendar on the web-site for all of the great activities our regional clubs are providing—you'll be amazed at everything that is hap-pening this spring—WOW!

I hope the Spring weather gives you an opportunity to frolic with your favorite companions—two- and four-legged!

Purina Parent Club Partnership Program

(Refer to Purina Pro Club Weight Circle Pro-gram for the program details). Purina tracks these weight circle sub-missions, and for every $100 of qualifying weight circle points earned by Pro Club members, Purina do-nates $10 to the partici-pating national parent breed club. It is as sim-ple as that.

Points are accu-mulated through-out a calendar year, and a check representing 10 percent of the value of the sub-mitted weight cir-cles for the year is

evenly split between the participating na-tional parent breed club and the AKC Ca-nine Health Founda-tion. Since all funding is incremental to the weight circle program, your participation in the PPCP will not result in a reduction of the points you personally earn.

For further details about the program, click HERE

Since 2002, thousands of fellow dog breeders and enthusiasts have declared their partici-pation in the Purina Parent Club Partner-ship (PPCP) Program. This program allows national parent breed clubs to individually earn funding based on Purina weight circle submissions by Pro Club® members.

How it Works

Pro Club members sub-mit weight circles from bags of participating Purina® Brand Dog Foods and accumulate weight circle points as part of the Pro Club Weight Circle Program.

Spring Draft Test Schedule

We have several draft tests scheduled in the next few months:

Crooked River has back to back tests scheduled for April 30 and May 1 in Zionsville, IN

C & P Club has back to back tests scheduled for April 30 and May 1 in Cross Junction, VA

SCONE has a test scheduled for May 14 in Mason, NH

Please come out and support your local clubs. The handlers have put in a lot of time training and working with their dogs, and the organizers have worked hard to organize and host these tests. I know all of them would appre-ciate spectators and helpers on the days of the tests.

I have asked Jan Collins to talk about her experiences at this year’s Eukanuba Agility Invita-tional.

From Jan:

Qualifying for the Invitational is always a special goal for the year and I always look forward to go-ing with my friend Ellen Miller, who runs a very speedy Berner. This was our fourth year going together.

The anticipation of going and wondering what the courses will be like is so exciting. How many

backsides, how much of a lead is going to be needed, what kind of weave entries, what kind of discrimina-tions, will my dog hold contacts and the list goes on.

I felt very confident in Sara Lee as this was her second year and

she has a good amount of show experience. Scopey, who is a won-derful young dog ,had done his first novice trial less than a year ago so I knew this whole show would be a learning experience for him. Lots to take in for young dogs at this trial and some nerves came out in him but he did a won-derful job for a young boy.

Melissa and Hobbs made for an extra special time and they had some super runs. Hobbs loves the game and is a very athletic, fun dog to watch.

Really missed Steve Likevich and Megan Westenmeyer. Looking forward to five dogs competing next year and hope my two are part of the five!

accepted for each class and must be approved by the Board.

Dec. 14-A motion is made by Teri and seconded by Steve that we increase the cost of Web advertising from $20 to $30 and keep the Senn and E-Senn advertising at $20.

Motion fails because it did not receive 6 yes votes which constitute a majority of the board. Yes-ES No-CC,DG,LH,SL,MJR Not voting-VG,DH,MR,TS,HW Comments for publication: Cathy- I would gladly vote for this increase if we were a club struggling with funds, but since we already have a treasury larger than what is probably prudent for a dog club I feel that we can easily offer the Breeders Classifieds at the current cost as a perk of membership to our breeders. Dave- I agree with Cathy’s reasons. Steve-This is on the list of "Advantages of GSMDCA Membership" doc that my committee has been work-ing on. Holly-I regret not voting and I would have voted yes, I think that this is a reasonable and appropriate increase.

Nov. 24-Ellen Bergfeld is approved as a Weight Pull judge by unanimous consent.

Respectfully submitted, Cathy Cooper
