Message from Mr MN Kamalanaban, VP - Services

Message from Mr M Elangovan, AVP-BD & Estimation

Dear Colleagues,

Our Company is having around 30 years of experience in the field of execution of

Oil & Gas and Power & Petrochemical Projects in India and in the Middle East. The

above sectors are bound to grow exponentially in the years ahead. In India itself the

domestic market is vibrant as infrastructure development is on the top of the Agenda

planned by the Govt. in the years ahead.

At present the GDP growth rate of our country is around 7% - 8%. The growth rate

needs to be maintained or improved further to achieve a development at par with

developed countries in the next 2 – 3 decades. With the high population levels and

changing lifestyles in our country there is a need to fast forward our country’s future

infrastructure and development requirements to improve the per capita levels to those

of developed countries.

In the above context we at EDAC continue to focus on our core business in India and

in the Middle East as part of our emerging strategy and also look for diversification

into other related areas as part of our business Plan. Already we have made suitable

agreements with well known multinational companies enabling to balance our skills

and strengths in the right direction.

Dear Colleagues,

The GDP has reached 7.1% with inflation of 4.2%. However, the contribution of

Infrastructure sector on GDP growth is declined in comparison to last fiscal year.

Since our business is on infrastructure, we face many challenges. To overcome the

same, we should optimize the resources and improve the efficiency of the resources.

We should come out of the regular/conventional practices and implement innovative

methods to improve the productivity thus resulting optimization of cost.

HEALTH TIPS FOR MOBILE PHONE USERS

SAR stands for specific absorption rate, a measure of the amount of radio frequency energy absorbed by the body when using a mobile phone. The SAR rating of your cell phone can be found in your instruction manual or possibly online. The SAR should not exceed 1.6 watts. Check SAR value of handset by dialing ….*#07#

1. Children absorb about 60 per cent more radiation into the head than adults. The immature nervous system makes them more susceptible to the long-term effects. Because they now start to use mobiles at a young age, their lifetime of exposure compounds their vulnerability. The effects range from higher instance of brain cancer in adult life to behavioural and emotional problems. Everyone should keep cell and wireless phones away from babies and children.

2. Carry your phone away from your body. Even 1.5 cm away from your body ensures radiation levels are below maximum levels. This isn’t achieved if your phone is in your pocket or against your ear. Carry your phone in your bag and use headphones when talking on the phone for optimum mobile phone safety. Pregnant women should keep cell and wireless phones away from their abdomen.

3. Anything you can do to keep the phone away from your head will help. (Even cell phone manufacturers warn consumers about this) If you hold the phone 2 inches away, the signal is about one-fourth the original strength. At four inches away, it’s about 1/16th as strong. Use a hands-free device like a speaker headset or talk on speaker phone. The weaker the signal, the more the radio frequency has to boost itself to get connected, increasing your exposure.”

4.Install a landline in your home. Home phones are starting to become obsolete but think about how often you use your mobile in your house. Most internet packages still come with home phone bundling and making calls off a landline is a great way to cut down on your mobile usage.

5. Avoid using mobiles when you are driving and in petrol pump stations. Never “text” while driving because it is illegal and very dangerous. Keep your cell phone within reach while driving and use a hands-free device like a headset or talk on speaker phone while keeping your eyes on the road.

6. While mobile phone is charging don’t receive the call. Remove the charger pin and then receive the call. While mobile phone is on charge don’t put it on bed or wooden furniture.

PreambleSite Managers’ Meet is conducted once in an year as an opportunity to share the Company’s present performance, the past experience and the future plans. All Project Managers and Site managers are given time to make their individual projects presentation to highlight their specific achievements and problems faced apart from giving the status of the activities. The Management takes note of the Presentations given by the respective Project Managers and Site Managers and shared their thoughts and given their opinions for the betterment of the Company’s activities in the future. This year’s Site Managers’ meet held on16th August 2016 was a resounding success.

Welcome AddressMr. M N Kamalanaban VP(S) while doing his duty of welcoming all the participants for the meeting emphasized the need for making a three week schedule by all the Project Managers and Site Managers. He wanted that this schedule should be reviewed on a week to week basis and any shortfall should be addressed in such a way so that ways and means are devised to improve the work progress and in the process a check should be made to improve the bottom line. Also he wanted all the Project Managers and Site Managers to share the problems faced by them and how they have effectively managed to resolve various issues at Site. He also mentioned that If any new methods have been implemented the same can be highlighted.

Key Note Address Director & COO Mr. M. Nandakumar gave the key note address and informed the august gathering the long journey we have covered in our past in the Construction Industry. In the year 2006 we had a good share of business from the power sector construction business and order book was around Rs. 2100 Crs. In 2009-10 the turnover of the company was Rs. 720 Crs. During that period we saw good bottom-line and cash flow. The investment in the power sector has fallen due to various reasons like environmental issues which calls for non-conventional energy like solar power, wind power etc to keep the global rise in temperature under control. However our current order book position is Rs. 740 Crs. As part of our diversification programme we are looking for business in Oil & Gas and Petrochemical sectors especially in the Middle East. We have five offices in the Middle East ie Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Oman, Kuwait and Qatar to focus our attention in the oil and petrochemical sectors. Also we are looking for new businesses in the areas such as Smart cities, Solar Power Plant, Irrigation Projects, Rural Electrification and Transmission Projects etc. At the same time we have to keep our present Customers/Clients/Owners satisfied particularly with competitive bidding, and maintaining best Quality, following Statutory obligations and adhering to good HSE practices. Director and COO was very particular that the Project Managers and Site Managers should come forward with their ideas and suggestions to make this diversification program a success.

Special addressDirector & CFO expressed that this meeting should be utilised to chart the future course of action as a team. He was very happy to inform that our Promoter had given us a free hand in the new ventures our Company is planning to diversify. Though in the last three to four years our Company had gone through a tough phase in the Construction business, he was very confident that we can sail through comfortably in the years to come. He encouraged our Site team by informing the respective Site Heads at the Meet that we at HO are here to support the Site Team in all aspects, as they are the face of our Company in front of clients. He appreciated their contribution in taking the challenges that they face daily at Sites across the country with grit and determination. He further said that in spite of lot of competition in the business we are confident of improving the top line and earning good returns to our investors and promoters. He wanted each one in the team to be professional and ethical in their approach and maintain high levels of Quality and Safety Standards to the satisfaction of the Clients and Customers across all our Sites.

If you just take a step by faith to do the right thing, then God will do the rest things you can’t do

EMPLOYEES

To be continued…….

The secret of success is never to give up.

EMPLOYEES CORNER

Utthita Trikonasana (Extended Triangle Pose)

Utthita means extended, stretched. Trikona (tri — three; kona — angle) is a triangle. This standing asana is the extended triangle pose.

Technique

1. Stand in Tadasana.

2. Inhale deeply and with a jump spread apart the legs sideways 3 to 31/2 feet. Raise the arms sideways, in line with the shoulders, palms facing down. Keep the arms parallel to the floor.

3. Turn the right foot sideways 90 degrees to the right. Turn the left foot slightly to the right, keeping the left leg stretched from the inside and tightened at the knee.

4. Exhale, bend the trunk sideways to the right, bringing the right palm near the right angle. If possible, the right palm should rest completely on the floor.

5. Stretch the left arm up (as in the illustration), bringing it in line with the right shoulder and extend the trunk. The back of the legs, the back of the chest and the hips should be in line. Gaze at the thumb of the outstretched left hand. Keep the right knee locked tight by pulling up the knee-cap and keep the right knee facing the toes.

6. Remain in this position from half a minute to a minute, breathing deeply and evenly. Then lift the right palm from the floor. Inhale and return to position 2 above.

7. Now, tum the left foot sideways 90 degrees to the left, turn the right foot slightly to the left, keep both knees tight and continue from position 2 to 6, reversing all processes. Inhale and come to position 2. Hold the posture for the same length of time on the left side.

8. Exhale, and jump, coming back to Tadasana.

EffectsThis asana tones up the leg muscles, removes stiffness in the legs and hips, corrects any minor deformity in the legs and allows them to develop evenly. It relieves backaches and neck sprains, strengthens the ankles and develops the chest.

DRAWINGS BY EMPLOYEES’ CHILDREN

The best way to tackle today is one step at a time.

SAFETY FOR KIDS AT HOMESafety Tips:1. PREVENTING FALLS AT HOMEFalls are the most common cause of injuries in every age group particularly toddlers. • Always supervise your kids when they climb staircase, windows & balconies. • Use low-power night lights and an efficient torch to make looking after your baby at night safer. • Leave a hall light on at night to make it easier for older children to get to the toilet without tripping. • Install safety guards across entries to stairs and balconies.• Lock windows – particularly upper-storey windows – or shield them with firmly attached window guards so your child

can’t fall out.

2. STRANGULATION AND SUFFOCATIONHomes have everyday items that could strangle or suffocate a child. These items include soft toys, bedding, blinds, cords, ropes, bags, and boxes.• Keep stuffed toys, cushions and piles of clothing out of cots and prams.• Wrap blinds cords in cleats attached to the wall at least 1.6 m above the floor.• Tie knots in plastic bags, and keep them away from children.

3. SAFETY FROM WATERSafety from water is an important aspect for the kids at home. Drowning in the water can be avoided by strict vigil whenever your child is around water pools, baths and buckets with water.• If you have a pool or bath at home install a fence and self-locking gate so that kids cannot reach it without your

permission.• For bath safety, always supervise babies, toddlers and children.By: Mr T Pasupathi, IT-Dept.

TECHNICAL DATAAlternative Energy SourcesAlternative sources of energy are the ones which do not cause any undesirable consequences to the environment, are renewable and are free!

Alternative Energy Sources which will help us maintain the balance of nature without causing it much harm as compared to the conventional energy sources.

Why use alternative energy sources?Power generation through alternative sources of energy is clean and ‘green’. If we shift to use power generated from these sources, then carbon dioxide emission from the conventional energy sources will be greatly reduced, and the problem of global warming will be solved in a few years.

Hydroelectric EnergyThe potential energy stored in the water held in dams by is made to drive a water turbine and generator which in turn produces electric power. This form of energy generation is called hydroelectric power.

Solar EnergyThis is the energy which the earth receives from the Sun. This is one of the most promising alternative energy sources, which will be available to the mankind for centuries to come. The only challenge remains to tap the solar energy in the most efficient way. The solar power generation is done by using a series of photovoltaic cells where the solar rays are converted into electricity.

Wind EnergyThe power of the wind is harnessed to propel the blades of wind turbine attached to an electric generator to generate wind energy. Wind energy is an effective alternative source of energy in areas where the velocity of wind flow is high.

Biomass EnergyThis is the energy developed from the wastes of various human and animal activities like the by-products and wastes from timber industry, agricultural yields, municipal solid waste etc. Out of the many alternative sources of energy this is the one which takes into account the utilization of waste material to develop energy thereby disposing them off in a profitable and effective way.

Geothermal EnergyThis is the energy tapped from the heat inside the earth. Hot rocks residing in the core of earth heat water which emits the surface of the earth with pressure and as steam. This pressurized steam can be used to run steam turbines to generate electricity.

Tidal PowerThe surface of earth is 71.11% covered by water bodies especially oceans. The tides in water rise and fall due to the gravity of sun and moon. Since we know about how the position of moon changes we can predict the rise and fall of tides. This rise and fall of tides can be utilized by setting up small dams and passing water through the turbines to generate power.

“Think Green, if you know what I mean.”
