thCOURSE IN HAEMATOLOGY AND HAEMATO-ONCOLOGY” to be held on Sunday, 24 August, 2014 at Hotel Trident, Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai from 9.00 am onwards.

OVERVIEW

In the last decade we have seen an increase in the number of patients for common haematological and haemato-oncological disorders. A thorough understanding of thepathophysiology of haematological disorders along with the knowledge of newer tests and their interpretations, are all essential for an accurate diagnosis. The goal of this activity, therefore, is to refresh the physicians on the approach to treat common problems related to blood in both children and adults.

The course also will provide clear algorithms of a basic workup for commonly seen haematological and haemato-oncological problems and suggest a paradigm for when to suspect these disorders and when should a referral be made to the haemato-oncologist/ haematologist.

OBJECTIVES/DESIRED OUTCOMES

It is intended that this course will lead to improved patient care, including improvements in knowledge, competence and performance. At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

1. Demonstrate an increase in knowledge of epidemiology, differential diagnosis, newer testing modalities and management of common haematological disorders.

2. Implement a rational clinical approach, focusing on avoiding unnecessary laboratory testing, to facilitate the correct ordering and interpretation of appropriate testing.
