1.1 Transmission values CANOpen Genset
Interface - GeneralUseMTU provides an interface for genset applications in accordance with the CANOpen protocol. This document sets out the Process Data Objects (abbreviated in the following as PDOs),which are transmitted in accordance with this protocol. The PDOs, which are up to 8 bytes in length, with a total of 64 bits, can transmit the following values:
Binary values Analog values Diagnostic messages Binary settings/values Analog settings/values
Physical information CAN specification: ISO11898, CAN 2.0A/B, electrically isolated, 3-wire The following values are set for nodes and baud rates:
Node no.: 6 Baud rate: 125kb
11 bit identifier Start/Stop CANOpen devices
CANOpen NMT and communication CANOpen specification: DS301 V 4.01 The MTU system operates as a slave and waits to be started by a master. Static mapping and dynamic mapping are not supported. SDOs are not supported No written access to the object directory via SDOs Support of the standard PDOs Transmitted data format: Intel format The NMT monitoring takes place exclusively by means of a heartbeat, Heartbeat Producer Time: 500 ms Transmission Type 255
Inhibit Time: 250 ms Event Time 20 s
Analog values are transmitted in the format Unsigned32 Boolean values are transmitted in the Boolean format IMPORTANT: MTU inserts data packets with less than 8 data bytes. The statement is held in the
DCF/EDS file compiled by MTU (provided) ( see also PDO tables).
Detection of data failure, Missing Data (MD)/Sensor Defect (SD)The following values are transmitted in the event of failure:
Analog values: MD-value: 0x7FFFFFFF SD-value: 0x80000001
Boolean valuesThe standard requires, that the binary values are transmitted for PDOs, bytes 0-3 containthe user data and bytes 4-7 the status values:

Example:Measured value in Byte 1 is e.g. 0The associated status is given in Byte 5:
e.g. 0 for measured value is OK e.g. 1 for measured value is MD/SD
NotesNotes on the tablesIn the headlines of the tables * appear at various positions. These have the following significance:
* One of the following error codes: 134, 136, 142, 144, 145, 147, 149, 151, 363, 364 ** Takes the value ZERO or 1
additionally, with Sensor Defect (SD) ZERO in the case of Missing Data (MD) 1
*** Prerequisite for this COB-Id is: NODE-ID = 11. For other Node-ID ( see calculation of the COB-Ids) **** ERR_MD is indicated if PV110010 MD is ERR_MD = 1. Combination ERR_MD =
1 and PV510037 bit 0 = 1 Communication error
Calculation of the COB-IdsThe calculation of the CAN_IDs must be carried out as follows:TXPDO(n): tx_Base_identifier/s + Offset + Node_IDRXPDO(n): rx_Base_identifier/s + Offset + Node_IDfor n= 1.. 4:
tx_Base_identifier(1..4) = 0x180,0x280,0x380,0x480 rx_Base_identifier(1..4) = 0x200,0x300,0x400,0x500

J1939 67
2 J1939
2.1 Transmission values J1939
Transmission values in accordance with J1939 StandardGeneral notesMessage structureA CAN communication/message comprises:
29 bit CAN-Identifier Statement on the length of the data field Up to 8 data bytes (J1939/21)
MTU also uses data packets with less than 8 data bytes, therefore an evaluation of the data field length is vital.Message Structure IdentifierThe 29 Bit CAN-Identifier is divided into the following parts:
Message priorityThis is preset to 6 for all PGNs
PGN (Parameter Group Number)This number comprises the following: Res a bit reserved for later use, at the moment this is always 0 DP Bit for extension of the following PDU (Process Data Unit) format field PF PDU Format
Field for differentiating between communication services. Together with the other parts, whichare provided with the PGN, a description of the following data field is possible. MTU uses herethe PDU2-format; this provides for a message-oriented transmission.
DA/GE PDU-specific fieldSince MTU uses a message-oriented transmission, one or more summarized physical parametersare made available here for all bus stations under a specified PGN, without the need for the sender(i.e. MTU Components) to know the receiver. The message filtering takes place on the receiveside (i.e. OEM Components) on the basis of the PGN of the identifier. In this way a message, which is of interest to a number of nodes, is simultaneously received by a number of nodes.Accordingly, this message must be unequivocally specified by SAE.
Source addressThis is a unique device address with 8 bits (0...253).
The structure of the identifier therefore appears as follows:
28...26 25 24 23...16 15...8 7...0
Priority PGN (Parameter Group Number) Source address
Res DP PF DA/GE
Abbreviations: Res: Reserved DP: Data Page DA: Destination Address GE: Group Extension
Message Structure PDUThe data field is a maximum 8 bytes long. MTU also uses shorter data fields, in order to reduce the volumeof data to be transmitted. Therefore the Dlc (Data length code) must be evaluated.

A request message then has, for example, the following structure (see also SAE J1939-21Section 5.2.7.1 Data from 0 to 8 Bytes):

Nodes and Baud RateThe following values are set for nodes and baud rates:
SAM: Node No.: 128 External devices: Node No.: 1 Baud rate: 250kb Deterministic
Note on the Process Variables PVThe System Index can vary for the two applications MDEC and ADEC. The system numbervaries depending on the application engineering. The PV Number of the process variables comprises a System Index and a System Number. These PVNumbers vary on the basis of the information given above. Their purpose is exclusively to provide a roughorientation. The designations (e.g. engine rpm, Stop or Start) are uniquely assigned.
