DE BETOVERING THE ENCHANTMENTFrom the 13th to the 21st of October this year, children between the ages of 2 and 12 years will be treated to some 500 performances and workshops at 50 different locations in The Hague.

PLENTY TO SEE - NO DUTCH REQUIRED

The most enchanting children’s productions of both Dutch and international origin will be brought to The Hague for nine days of dazzling culture. The programme includes theatre shows as well as dance, music and film and those highlighted in this brochure are all suitable for non-Dutch-speaking children. Make sure to look out for the various street theatre acts in the city centre too like the Grand Piano, a huge piano to literally play on, or the DJ Frietmachine (French Fries), where you can dance with your own potato!

PLENTY TO DO - ALSO NO DUTCH REQUIRED!

There is also a huge range of workshops throughout the festival where children can try their hand at dance, music, filmmaking, painting, theatre and much, much more! Make sure to join in the fun at one of the festival centres: Theater aan het Spui, Theater Dakota, Theater de Vaillant, Muzee Scheveningen and Theater de Nieuwe Regentes. More information about the festival centres is detailed to the right.

There are five festival centres, buzzing with continuous creative activity. You can make your own Ikke (me), a self-made 3-dimensional doll out of cardboard and during the whole week you can prepare your outfit, hat, bag or other accessory for the big party on the 21st of October.

FESTIVAL FINALE PARTY - THE ENCHANTMENT WOOGIE BOOGIE!

Absolute highlight this year is our finale party, in which children in the age of 5-12 years from all over The Hague will come together. We celebrate choosing, making, receiving and giving colors: we celebrate our colorful city. Come and celebrate with us! Children should be accompanied by an adult. Both children and adults will require an entry ticket.

In this visual story, based on people and human behavior, fantasy creatures with multi-faceted playful possibilities arise, and bring very different temperaments to the stage. Creative costume design, ultimately based on astonishingly simple materials, allows the dancers to quickly and abruptly transition from one story to the next. This results in a series of fantasy-rich situations, short episodes and pictures.

Usually, a hole is round. It doesn’t weigh anything and has no name. But there is always one, somewhere. Just like that, without a reason. You find it in your socks, in cheese and even in the air. If you want to touch it you are grasping the void. You can make it bigger or smaller, cover it or plug it. But you can never hold on to it. Holes are secretive. A tiny hole is enough to make you an explorer.

BBMAKIKO ITO/WONDERLAND COLLECTIEF

Japanese choreographer Makiko Ito is well known for her interactive shows, made especially for the youngest visitors. The dancers and musicians improvise in response to the movements and sounds made by the little audience members, creating a dialogue between the players and the youngsters. • Many performances sell out quickly so you need to be fast with your booking.

• Make sure to state clearly which day and time you wish to visit when booking tickets.

• Children should be accompanied by an adult when visiting performances (unless otherwise stated). Both child and guardian will require entry tickets.

• The ticket of a show does not automatically provide access to an associated workshop. Please reserve separately for all workshops. In most cases, the workshops are for children (parents can pick up their children afterwards) so you will only need to reserve a place for the child(ren).

• Please take note of the minimum age of an activity. We don’t allow access to children that are too young.

• Please cancel any reservations if you can’t make it.

• If an activity is sold out, make sure to ask if you can be put on a waiting list.

• Refreshments are available at most festival locations. You can also get festival food at Theater aan het Spui and special pancakes at the Grote Markt.

• Information about access for visitors with disabilities is available on our website or via the locations themselves.

• We recommend the Novotel City Centre hotel for visitors from outside The Hague. Up to two children can stay in a room with paying adults and also get a free breakfast!

• The organization reserves the right to make changes to the programme at any time.
