Metso DNA is a state of the art automation

system. Automation systems from Metso have

been installed in numerous ships starting in

the early eighties with the Damatic Classic,

followed by Damatic XD and currently

Metso DNA.

The system is widely used in land based

process industries like power plants, oil

and gas refineries, waste recycling, mineral

processing, pulp and paper and food

processing.

The Metso DNA is a Distributed Control

System (DCS). It is modular, flexible and

scalable for a wide range of ships types and

applications. Metso DNA will solve your needs

for control, alarm and monitoring

applications whether it is a cruise vessel, acomplex offshore processing plant, tanker

or RO-RO vessel.

The design concept of the Metso DNA system

includes redundancy for all major

components resulting in an unbeaten

availability level.

Asset ManagementMetso DNA Field Device Manager is a

configuration, maintenance and condition

monitoring system for intelligent field devices

connected via HART or industry standard field

buses to the Metso DNA system.

The system is fully integrated into the

engineering and automation system environ-

ment. It supports proactive field asset

management, gives quick access to informa-

tion in a disturbance situation, enables field

devices performance monitoring and

planning of future maintenance work.

Information ServicesMetso DNA Historian offers unrivalled tools

for analyzing of IAS history data, alarm and

events, extending up to one year back in time.

There are tools for trend and alarm/event

analysis, playback of history data in mimic

displays and possibilities for creating own

reports with calculations, graphic presenta-

tion etc.

Emergency Shutdown The ESD system for flammable liquid systems,

ventilation fans etc, is designed as a fully

redundant and standalone segment of the

IAS. Operation is done via hardwired switch

panels and/or dedicated operator stations.

It is linked to the IAS via redundant Ethernet

with firewalls for view of status and informa-

tion on IAS multifunctional operator stations.

Metso offers solutions for Safety Instrument-

ed Systems (SIS) with requirement to SIL (1,

2 or 3).

Vibration Monitoring Metso offers a complete vibration monitoring

system for e.g.rotating machinery like a

motor, pump or gearbox.

It is fully intergrated with the Metso DNA

system from sensor to I/O units and to the

analyzing tools on operator interface.

Vibration monitoring is a valuable tool for

preventive maintenance to safeguard the

machinery assets.

HVAC Metso DNA system has an extensive track

record as HVAC automation system for

cruise vessels where system availability is of

outmost importance for passenger comfort.

Integration of the HVAC automation to the

Metso DNA platform secures a uniform

automation concept with a high level of

availability due to redundancy and type

approved equipment. The operating concept

becomes uniform from IAS multifunctional

workstations.

As automation system developer and

producer Metso is designing and testing all

system components according to the environ-

mental requirements as per the International

Association of Classification Societies (IACS)E10 rules and each individual classification

society. Metso DNA system is type

approved by ABS, BV, DNV, GL, KRS, LRS, RINA

and RS.

Metso products have a proven marine use

and quality record by the more than 700 ships

that have been equipped, by Metso or VAR

partners, with Damatic Classic, Damatic XD

and Metso DNA automation systems.

The ACN family of process

controllers and I/O units

The Application & Controller Node (ACN)

family of controllers and I/O units features

a reliable platform from basic alarm and

monitoring up to the most advanced control

applications. It is scalable from the needs

of a small vessel up to the largest and most

advanced cruise liner or FPSO.

ACN SR1 is a small controller intended for

embedded installation, ACN MR and ACN CS

are compact controllers used for embedded

or centralized solutions while the ACN RT is a

powerful rack mounted controller for central-

ized installation. All controllers connect to the

wide range of ACN I/O units. ACN MR, ACN

CS and ACN RT controllers interface in addi-

tion industry standard field buses like FFB,

PROFIBUS, AS-i bus, CAN bus and Modbus. All

controllers can be redundantly configured for

optimal availability.

30 Years of System Engineering

As a complete marine automation system supplier Metso is developing and maintaining

own tools and environment for efficient engineering and maintenance.

Metso DNA Engineering ServerEngineering server contains all the signal tags in

the IAS. It links with all the different tools of theMetso DNA system. Instrumentation information

from the customer in e.g. spread sheet format is

imported to the database/server.

Metso DNA Report DesignerReport Designer is the tool for creating reports

in the Metso DNA system. It is a graphical tool

that enables the user to create web reports.

It uses drag and drop features to easily connecthistory data with bar graphs, texts and

numerical values in the reports.

Metso DNA Engineering Field Device ManagerField Device Manager is a set of tools for configuration

and management of intelligent field devices (i.e. HARTand field bus sensors).

Metso DNA Engineering Explorer The heart of the Metso DNA engineering and maintenance

system is the DNA Explorer, which offers easy-to-use configurationand maintenance tools for the automation system.

It is located in an Engineering Server and is a multiuser concept that

includes tools for all engineering activit ies from network design,

field buses, field devices, configuration of system and applications

to maintenance.

Applications made by the different tools are automatically loaded

to the IAS run time environment.

Metso DNA Engineering Function Block CAD This CAD tool provides an illustrative and efficient graphic

working environment for designing Metso DNA applications.

It is used for designing function block diagrams for process

control loops, links etc. It is also a graphic document of the

application that is loaded to the IAS run time environment.

The tool includes an extensive set of library building blocks

that are put together to form

a function block module.

Metso DNA Engineering Network DesignerDNA Network Designer is a tool used to design the

layout of the Metso DNA system: system and field

network, process controllers, I/O groups, cabinets,

control room devices etc. A drag and drop method

makes it easy to create and maintain the network

pictures.

Metso DNA Engineering Sequence CAD The tool is used to create sequence programs

in a graphical working environment.

Sequences with steps, conditions and actions

are illustrated in the diagrams. It forms anapplication that is loaded to the IAS run time

environment.

Metso DNA Engineering Picture DesignerOperator mimic displays are made with the Picture

Designer. This is a drawing tool used to create theuser interface mimic displays, both static anddynamic objects.

Many ship owners today are focused on

programs for upgrades and refits of vital

components in order to improve operation

cost efficiency and to obtain a long vessel

life span.

Metso’s Life Cycle concept consists of an

economical step-by-step system upgrade

path from previous and current Metso

systems to future ones.

This helps minimizing upgrade costs and

maximizing the system and vessel perform-

ance throughout the entire life cycle of the

vessel.

There is a continuous development of theautomation system platform and different

upgrade possibilities enable our customers

to select a solution that fits with needs and

budget.

An older user interface can be upgraded to

the latest version enabling a state of the art

HMI with excellent process overview and

an efficient user interface dialogue. It is

possible to change to new process control-

lers while keeping the old I/O system and to

expand with latest I/O type in new segments

if required.

The Information System can be an add-on

to systems from Damatic XD and newer.

 The Information System provides unrivalled

tools for analyze and reporting of history

data. The system can be utilized for a variety

of tasks for example energy saving.
