Our class is participating in a fun and educational project that will help give back to the community! It’s time for the Meaning of Home contest in support of Habitat for Humanity Canada. Since 2007, over 58,000 students have participated in the Meaning of Home contest. Thanks to their inspiring words, and the support of founding sponsor Genworth Canada and award sponsors Revera Inc. and The Silver Hotel Group, the Meaning of Home contest has raised over $1.5 million to build homes across Canada for families in need of decent and affordable housing.

The Meaning of Home contest is a great way to:

Encourage independent and critical thought

Promote creative writing

Increase awareness around social issues

Promote community involvement

The Meaning of Home contest invites Grades 4, 5 and 6 students from across Canada to submit a written essay or poem about what home means to them. Each entry results in a $10 donation to our local Habitat and the winner in each grade gets to direct a $30,000 grant to a Habitat build in their community. Nine runners-up (3 per grade) will also get to direct a $10,000 grant towards a Habitat build in their community. Additional prizes include an iPad, and class pizza party for each of the grand prize winners. The contest will run from January 6 to February 21, 2020. Winners will be announced in May.

Our classroom participation is helping Canadian families access safe, decent and affordable homes. This contest is intended to inspire your child, as they think about what home means to them. During this contest period we will be engaging our classroom in understanding the importance of safe, affordable housing, while also giving back to our community.

No purchase necessary. Contest valid from January 6 to February 21, 2020. There are 12 prizes available to be won with a total approximate retail value of $8,280.97 CAD. Odds of winning a prize depend upon the number and score of eligible entries received. Correctly answering a time-limited, mathematical skill-testing question required. It’s time for the Meaning of Home contest in support of Habitat for Humanity Canada. Helping families build strength, stability and self-reliance through affordable homeownership, one entry at a time!

BODY:

We are very excited to join classrooms from across Canada participating in the Meaning of Home contest. In its 12th year, the Meaning of Home contest invites Grades 4, 5 and 6 students from across Canada to submit a poem or essay explaining what home means to them. Since 2007, over 58,000 students have participated in the Meaning of Home contest. Each grade winner will receive a $30,000 grant to direct to a Habitat build in their community. We’ve decided to participate this year, so students have the opportunity to make a difference in our community. In addition to winning great prizes, we will be learning the importance of safe, affordable housing while building a home for future Habitat families.
