Ear Training Series 1: Chords Most fingering here are simply recommendations. If it does not feel correct to you, then try it another way. EXCEPTION: Major and Minor chords MUST be played as shown below. If you do not play them as shown below, you will have a hard time with your fingering when you get to more advanced, bigger chords. The idea is to get your hand to play the chords in the same ways. For example, all of your dominant 7ths should have the same fingering for each key, although root position may be 1 2 3 5 and first inversion may be 1 2 3 4, etc. You want your hand to learn to “recognize” the feel of a dominant 7ths fingering, no matter what key you are in.
