Hello!

I hope you have been enjoying the variations in our wonderful Minnesota weather! I also hope you have had the opportunity to join us for one of our fall Early Childhood Family Education classes. There are many new choices for parent-child classes in the winter/spring catalog and we look forward to you joining us. We offer a variety of classes for children from birth to age five and their parents. All families are welcome to attend. We do not turn any family away for the inability to pay.

In addition to our weekly classes and parent workshops, we also have some one-time events coming up soon. Run and Read events will take place Saturdays, Jan. 27, Feb. 24, and March 24 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at Colts Academy in St. Joseph. These events are free and open to the public. In addition to fun activities and fun in the gym, every child birth to age five will receive a free book.

The early childhood team is excited to share with you that our Early Childhood Education program will be moving its home base from Colts in St. Joseph to the new Quarryview Education Center in Waite Park in June 2018. The early childhood portions of the building were designed to meet the needs of our youngest learners. We hope you will join us for ECFE classes this winter and spring at Colts and watch for new classes next fall at Quarryview.

What is ECFE?

Welcome to ECFEEarly Childhood Family Education (ECFE) believes that parents are the child’s first and most important teacher. We provide quality learning opportunities and resources for parents and their children from birth to kindergarten entry. Parents and children attend ECFE class together. If ECFE is new to you, we invite you to arrange a visit/tour of our Early Childhood Center. A typical ECFE class includes:

GROWING TOGETHER: For You and Your ChildPlay with your child as he or she explores and learns in a play environment. Grow together through art, music, story books and other age-appropriate toys and activities.

GROWING INDEPENDENTLY: For Your ChildDuring their play and snack time, the early childhood educator will guide children as they interact with others and as they continue to develop positive attitudes about themselves.

GROWING CONFIDENTLY: For YouJoin other parents, in an informal setting, for discussion led by a licensed parent educator. Parents have the opportunity to share ideas and feel encouraged with the support of others.

FEESFees for ECFE classes are based on income. No family will be excluded because of inability to pay.

Our Mission

Our Mission is to create a safe and caring climate and culture in which we prepare, engage, educate, empower and inspire all learners in partnership with their surrounding community to be successful in today’s and tomorrow’s society.

“A secure, flexible and trusting relationship with at least one caring adult is the single most important predictor of a child’s academic and social competence.”

~ dr. terri rose

“Research has shown that fathers, no matter what their income or cultural background, can play a critical role in their children’s education. When fathers are involved, their children learn more, perform better in school, and exhibit healthier behavior. Even when fathers do not share a home with their children, their active involvement can have a lasting and positive impact.”

REFUND POLICY: A refund will be given only if you cancel two or more business days prior to the first class.

One of the primary goals in ECFE is to build relationships, particularly one-on-one parent and child. In order for this to happen, and out of respect for ALL families, please make other arrangements for infant siblings over 4 months of age in classes. We know this may be difficult, therefore we offer several classes for multiple children. Thank you for your understanding.

Your time and support is greatly appreciated!State funding for Early Childhood Programs depends on an accurate count of the young children in our community.

Early Childhood ScreeningMinnesota law requires that all children must have a health and developmental screening before entering kindergarten in a public school.

Early Childhood Screening is a free check of how your 3-year-old is growing, developing and learning. The screening includes a developmental assessment, vision and hearing testing, height and weight measurement and an immunization and health history review.

The purpose of this FREE screening is to identify children who may need additional time and experiences to be ready for school. The sooner we get started, the more likely your child will begin school with the necessary skills to succeed.

TO SCHEDULE A SCREENING APPOINTMENT:call: 320-253-5828online: www.isd742.ce.eleyo.com

Is Your Child On Track?Help Me Grow helps you know. And helps you to know what to do next.

Help Me Grow provides resources for families to look at developmental milestones, to learn if there are concerns and to take the lead in seeking additional support or in referring their child for a comprehensive, confidential screening or evaluation at no cost.

If you have concerns about a child’s development and think a child might need extra help to learn, don’t hesitate to refer a child.
