Early Years Education MA /

The programme allows students to engage withcurrent issues and debates relevant to early yearseducation, increasing understanding of policydevelopment and developing leadership knowledgeand skills to assess the quality of early yearspractice. Students gain understanding of generalmethodology and research methods, which enablesthem to conduct research in early years settings.

 Degree summary 

This programme provides the opportunity for students to accessprofessional development that is informed by best practice in early yearseducation. It will also prepare students for leadership roles and developtheir understanding of general methodology and research methods.

// The Early Years Education staff team at UCL Institute of Education(IOE) have been at the forefront of international research for twodecades including the renowned Effective Pre-School, Primary andSecondary Education (EPPSE) project.

// The research and teaching team specialise in early years leadership,pedagogy and curriculum and assessment.

This programme is delivered through face-to-face evening sessions.Assessment is through assignments and a dissertation.

 Degree structure 

Mode: Full-time: 1 year; Part-time: 2 years; Flexible: up to 5 years

Location: London, Bloomsbury

Students undertake modules to the value of 180 credits. The programmeconsists of three core modules (90 credits), one optional module (30credits) and a dissertation (60 credits).

// All students undertake an independent research project which culminates in a20,000-word dissertation.

 Your career 

Graduates of the Early Years Education MA are currently working asnursery teachers and managers, primary school teachers, advisers tolocal and national government and researchers on early childhoodprogrammes.

Employability

By taking this programme students develop an international, critical anddeep understanding of early years leadership, curriculum, pedagogyand assessment.

 Entry requirements 

A minimum of a second-class Bachelor's degree from a UK university oran overseas qualification of an equivalent standard is required.Appropriate experience of working with young children is desirable.

English language proficiency level

If your education has not been conducted in the English language, youwill be expected to demonstrate evidence of an adequate level ofEnglish proficiency.

The level of English language proficiency for this programme is: Good.
