Earth’s Moon
By: Stephen Santoro
The Moon The Moon is a Natural Satellite.
It takes 27.3 days to turn once on its axis and orbit the earth.
Other then the sun the moon is the brightest object in the sky.
The Lunar Cycle : Phases of the Moon
Atmosphere
• The Earths moon has no atmosphere.
• If you leave something on the moon it will be there for centuries.
• Also, there is no weather on the moon.

•A Maria is a dark spot on the moon filled with solidified lava.
•There are almost no Maria’s on the far side of the moon.

Terrae’s
• Terrae’s are leftover of the lunar surface (bright highlands).
• Rough, Mountainous and heavily cratered regions.
• The size of a terrae is about 3 miles.

Craters
•A crater is formed when meteors hit the surface.
•Craters come in all different sizes.
•The surface of the moon is covered with impact craters.

Regolith
• Regolith is similar to the moon’s version of “soil”.
• Regolith was a fine powder of rock fragments, noted from astronauts.
• Regolith is any layer of material covering solid rock.

Solar Eclipse
•A solar eclipse happens when the moon is in between the sun and earth.
•A solar eclipse can occur only during a new moon.
Lunar Eclipse
•A Lunar Eclipse occurs when the earth passes between the sun and
moon. • A lunar Eclipse can only occur when there is a full
moon. •A Lunar Eclipse can be viewed from all of the
nearside of earth.
Penumbra Umbra
•A penumbra is the lighter part of the shadow.
•The penumbra allows some light to hit (earth or moon).
•The umbra is the dark part of the shadow.
•The umbra blocks all of the light from hitting the(earth or moon).
Full moon
•You can tell if it is a full moon if the moon is a perfect circle. •You will be able to see 1 full moon around every 29 days.
•Waxing is when the moon is behind the earth and the moon keeps getting illuminated in a cycle.
New moon
•A new moon is when the moon is between the Earth and the Sun, so that the illuminated side of the moon faces away from viewers on Earth. •The moon can the be partially seen or disappear in the sky.
Mean solar day and sidereal
Tides
•Tides are the rising or falling of bodies of water.;
•The moon has gravitational pull on the earth which creates 2 high tides and 2 low tides.
Lunar Corona
Any small particle can
make a corona.
Lunar Corona-clouds are thin enough that each single corona light ray reaching the eye is scattered or diffracted by only one droplet.
Footsteps on the moon
•Neil Armstrong First man on the Moon – July 20, 1969 •Six Apollo missions • 12 Americans have walked on the moon
