EASA Registration Process & Policies – PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY

EASA program will be available online on December 2, 2013. Students may register on-line (www.sas.edu.sg/easa) for up to 3 classes

o Online registration for First choice class opens December 2 at 10 am Online registration for Second & Third choice classes open from December 5 (midnight of December 4) to December 12. Registrations received on December 16 onwards will be subject to a $15.00 late fee. Late registrations will not be accepted after December 18th. If a class is full during registration period, students may request to be on ONE “Wish List”. In the following EASA term, parents will

receive via email an early invitation to register for their Wish Listed class choice only. Minimum and maximum student enrollments are listed with each class description. There will be no refunds after you have paid and registered your child in a class (once you have received the receipt from PayPal). There will be no switches (transfers to a different EASA class) after your registration is confirmed (once you have received the

receipt from PayPal). Email reminder will be sent out after class list is completed. If you have not received notification/confirmation email by January 15,

please contact the EASA office at 6360-6282 or email [email protected] General Information when EASA classes start:

All children must report to the PS or IS cafeteria directly after school at 3 pm. Cafeteria supervision is provided until 3:15 when the EASA classes begin. Primary School students may be picked up at 4:15 pm or ride the 4:25 pm Primary EASA Bus (Registration online), or walk home if

written parental permission is given via [email protected]. Intermediate School students may walk home, be picked up or ride a 4:25 pm Student Activity Bus (YOU must contact the Bus Office

@ 6360-6770 to arrange for the Activity Bus) after confirmed enrollment in an EASA class. Please notify the EASA office (room i-112) or at [email protected] if your child will be absent from their EASA class

Mandarin Out-of-the-box! - KG/1st grade This program provides opportunities for SAS Elementary students to learn Mandarin in a fun playing environment. Students will be engaged in activities that are rich in visual cues and focus on developing communicative enjoyment and confidence. The main focus will be speech using lots of exciting hands-on activities. The program has been designed as a continuous three term curriculum and students are encouraged to participate for the entire three terms to get maximum benefit from the program. Cocina En Español – 1st/2nd grade This program has been designed to provide SAS students from Grade 1 and 2 opportunities to develop their Spanish through cooking. This program is interactive and will complement the school’ Spanish Curriculum. It will be taught completely in Spanish. The children will also learn basic cooking skills appropriate for their age and how to work safely in the kitchen. In order to get the most out of this program, it is recommended that the students attend all three terms. Soccer DinoMites - PreK International Soccer Academy soccer programme for kids from 4-5 yrs old. In our programme young players are exposed to a great variety of recreational motor activities, not just soccer. The purpose is to have exciting, interesting and fun filled activities to enhance the children’s agility, coordination, movement, balance & overall control of their body. Our programme will include simple introductions to the soccer game which will be taught through fun filled activities. The aim for this programme is for young children to become more active & agile and to provide a platform for them to be naturally more athletic in the future. – ISA Coaches (MS basketball court) For more information about Pre-K bus click here

Kinder Swim Lessons – KG This class is designed for students who are already water safe (who are able to go underwater and dogpaddle) and need to start to work on basic stroke development. Kinder Soccer - KG Let’s play soccer! Focus will be on introducing basic soccer skills through training, games, and most importantly fun. Players will play fun game as well as competitive games. Learn the basics of passing, dribbling and shooting. This will be a group / team training session where kids will have a chance to make new friends. Each participant is responsible for wearing the proper equipment to each session: shorts, t-shirt, shin guards, and athletic shoes. Soccer balls will be provided. Kinder Climb - KG Welcome to introductory climbing. Various climbing activities, safety and simple techniques will be covered in this class designed to challenge all levels of climbers. A good pair of athletic training shoes and a positive attitude is all that is needed for this fun activity!

Our girls-only kinder soccer program aims to ensure that your daughter gets an opportunity to develop her skills and coordination without being afraid of having to ‘beat the boys’. Our program aims to develop a love of sport by developing self-confidence in their abilities. Coaches will create fun practices and exercises to build their skills, tactics and games to develop players’ strategy and technical ability. Each participant is responsible for wearing the proper equipment to each session: shorts, t-shirt, shin guards, and athletic shoes. Inline Skating for beginners – 3rd grade You don’t have to fall to learn to skate safely and leisurely in the shortest time possible, This new teaching method teaches you to build your foundation by learning to balance first then learn to skate on any terrain, including slopes and wet floor. Learn to skate effortlessly on the outside edges instead of stroking outward on the inside edges.. Touch Rugby Skills for Girls & Boys – 3rd/4th grade Touch rugby is a fast moving, minimal contact, evasive game that is played throughout the world by boys and girls. The game is similar to rugby but without tacking, scrumming, mauling, lineouts and kicking. This fast, simple and exciting game promotes the fundamentals skills of running, handling, evasion and support play, whilst developing basic principles of attack and defense. This is a skills and drills class for beginner players that want to learn volleyball fundamentals in a relaxed and fun setting. Students will be encouraged to learn and practice techniques such as footwork for passing, serving and positions. Martial arts Karate for Little Ones – Pre-K Karate is a traditional Japanese martial art, which teaches students how to use hands, elbows, knees and legs for self-defense. It teaches children good discipline, healthy lifestyle, good morals and also helps them to make new friends. This class aims to build a solid foundation for children to understand and enjoy Karate. Students will learn how use the strength of their upper body and hips and add it into punches or kicks. Classes are taught by a dedicated Japanese Karate Association qualified 4th Dan black belt instructor who has been coaching for more than 15 years  .

Karate – KG/1st/2nd grade

Karate is a traditional Japanese martial art, which teaches students how to use hands, elbows, knees and legs to become weapons. It teaches children good discipline, healthy lifestyle, good morals and also helps them to make new friends. This class aims to build a solid foundation for children to understand and enjoy Karate. Classes are taught by a dedicated Japanese Karate Association qualified 5th Dan black belt instructor who has been coaching for more than 15 years. It is optional for students to purchase their own Karate uniform. Uniform’ ($50.00) order form will be sent home via EASA confirmation email.

Taekwondo (Beginner Belts) – KG/1st/2nd grade Taekwondo foster strong values and beliefs such as respect, determination, modesty, perseverance and self control. It is a systematic and progressive training that seeks to polish and maximize student’s ability in self-defense together with improving their self confidence and motor skills. This class will be supervised by an International Certified Instructor who is a 7th degree black belter. Taekwondo Instructor will assess new students that already have belts from other countries/organizations and he will determine what EASA Taekwondo class these students should attend. It is optional for students to purchase their own Taekwondo uniform from the coach ($80.00). Order form will be sent home via EASA confirmation email.

Kendo (Japanese Fencing) - 1st to 5th grade Your child will gain many benefits from this traditional Japanese martial art, including: improved hand-eye coordination and reflexes, enhanced speed and dexterity and developed sense of timing and precision. Kendo carries the principles of samurai swordsmanship cultivating your child’s mind, body, and spirit. Kendo is a fast sport that will build your child’s endurance, obedience and character. New students: it is compulsory for students to purchase a Shinai (bamboo sword) from the coach ($65). Returning students: it is advisable to purchase complete Kendo Uniform ($80) & Armor.

Taekwondo (PS Adv Belts/IS Beg Belts) - 1st to 5th grade

Taekwondo is a traditional Korean martial art that involves more than physical fighting skills. This introductory course will focus on the values of Taekwondo, the fundamentals of Taekwondo stances, kicking and hand techniques for situational defense. Course taught by an International certified Taekwondo Instructor who is a 7th degree black belt. Instructor will assess new students that already have belts from other countries/organizations and he will determine what EASA Taekwondo class these students should attend. In Imagine more..StoryArt children will be using different art techniques to create individual picture-books. They will co-create the storyboard as a group but each child will define the main character in their story. Our young chefs will prepare and enjoy several recipes while learning about different foods and kitchen tools. Children will be responsible for preparing, cooking and cleaning up during each session. Each participant will receive a collection of child-friendly recipes including those made during the Kids Can Cook sessions. The focus of this session will be on easy snacks and desserts students could recreate at home. Students will also learn the basics of Cross Stitch and work on a simple project of their own design using patterns to guide them. Most weeks the cross stitching will be done as the prepared food is cooking and after the cleanup has been completed. This is not a nut free environment. Guitar for beginners – 4th/5th grade Students will learn to play guitar from square one! They will learn about posture, hand-positioning and get familiar with various parts of the instrument. Using the guitar chords - G major, C major, E minor and D major - students will begin ‘jamming’ as soon as possible. We will work on finger and scale exercises, strumming and other practice techniques and in no time they will start playing simple 3-string songs. Beginners High Strings

4th/5th grade

The Beginners High Strings open to returning term 1 students. Working through the Essential Elements 2000 method book, students will continue to learn the basics of playing a high string instrument. Emphasis will be placed on ensemble performance and playing skills. We HIGHLY encourage students to make a commitment to EASA Strings for the entire school year. All students will need to bring a violin or viola. Intermediate Strings – 4th/5th/6th grade This class is open to returning EASA Violin, Viola, Cello & Double Bass players or for new students who have had at least one year of private lessons. Emphasis will be placed on playing skills and ensemble playing, with opportunities for solo and small group work. There will be performances during each EASA term. We HIGHLY encourage students to make a commitment to EASA Strings for the entire school year. Apprentice Engineers – Kindergarten Looking for a great activity designed for your inquisitive Kindergartener who is developing his/her fine motor skills? The Apprentice Engineers does just that! This class introduces children to simple machinery through fun activities. Kids will understand simple concepts of how machines work through stories and simple play experiments. They will be manipulating and constructing with Duplo LEGO® and other craft materials. Can’t get enough of constructing LEGO® structures? Your child could proceed on to become Xtreme Junior Engineers. Join us to further explore compound engineering concepts through hands on building with LEGO®. They will explore and investigate topics such as gear trains and different classes of levers as they construct a variety of complex LEGO® mechanisms. The instructors will then help students translate and apply their learning with real life examples. This class is an excellent lead up to robotics activities. Jr. Engineers - 1st/2nd grade (Open for new students only) Does your child love playing with LEGO®? Your child could be one of our Junior Engineers. In this class students will have fun learning science and mechanical concepts through hands on building with LEGO®. They will explore and investigate topics such as gears and levers as they construct a variety of LEGO® mechanisms. Minecraft (Ancient Civilization) – 1st/2nd grade Build an ancient civilization structure and defend them from invaders in Minecraft! Learn more about ancient civilizations as you play. Minecraft is more than just a game; it's a tool that can be used to enrich students' learning. Minecraft can be used to teach history, physics, engineering, and programming and lots more. It is an interactive game that allows players to use digital blocks to create almost anything they can imagine. We will also be incorporating the use of Lego bricks to build structures and Paper automata to make moving paper characters from Minecraft. The use of Lego bricks and Paper automata helps to enhance the students’ learning in design, mechanics and engineering.

Jr. Robotics – 3rd grade Love LEGO® and Robotics? This class is great for your young budding Robot-Enthusiast. Get introduced to LEGO NXT and explore all the fun and mechanics that LEGO NXT has to offer. In this class you will be introduced to the basics of programming, learn about all the different sensors (Ultrasonic, touch and sound sensors) where robots come alive and to perform different operations at a touch of a button. Girls’ Robotics Club – 3rd/4th grade It’s a race against time for the different robot teams to return to the future and stop the monster robots from coming into the present time. They have to be the first to get to the time capsule before the evil robots destroy it. .Can your team help to build and program the fastest robot and get to the time capsule in time? Complete different missions as students will learn about teamwork, simple robot programming and understand the mechanics of the robot as they work together. Robotics – 4th/5th grade Explore the wonders of science and technology through robotics. Learn to build and program different types of robots that help mankind. Build your dream robot and participate in various challenges. We use Lego Mindstorms NXT robotics sets and each session is engaging and fun while accomplishing its learning objectives. Classes are conducted by experience robotics trainers who are passionate about robotics and enjoy working with young children. Movie & Video Creation – 4th/5th grade This class is open to new and returning students. In this fun course the students will learn the basics of all video (and film) productions. The course will cover planning, filming and editing of all sorts of videos. Students will work together to create a series of short videos, applying every technique they learn in class. All materials (including cameras) are provided. The instructor is Iskander Walen, who has worked on award-winning local sitcoms, television commercials, and created several short films. Intro to Graphic & Creative Design - 5thgrade In this class students will learn how graphic designers use words, images, and symbols to communicate their ideas and messages. They will explore the building blocks of graphic design: including contrast, alignment, repetition and proximity.
