Asia is home to three of the world’s four largest economies. Housing 60% of the world’s population engaged in a myriad of professions and livelihoods, it is on the brink of unprecedented growth and prosperity. Asian countries are witnessing a dramatic change in their economy. Th e scene of e-Governance and e-Learning is not diff erent either. Diff erent countries are at diff erent stages of implementation and some are progressing faster than others. We have been focusing on many such issues in our publications – i4d, i4d, i4d egovand Digital Learning. Th ere is immense Digital Learning. Th ere is immense Digital Learningscope to learn from each other and to fi nd solutions to common challenges. With its economic and socio-cultural diversity, Asia requires new, innovative thinking, and a knowledge-sharing platform in the fi elds of
Information and Communication Technologies for Development.
Egov Asia 2006 and Digital Learning 2006 conference aims to provide a common platform for policy makers and implementers of the Asia-Pacifi c nations to share their views and deliberate on their experiences through peer interactions and in the process bring expertise to a wider audience on the issues of e-Government and e-Learning respectively.
Looking at the increasing importance of telecentres for bringing social and economic development in rural communities in developing countries, we also bring another platform, Asian Telecentre Forum 2006, for reviewing several models of telecentres
Asian countries are at varied stages of implementing eGovernance. While some top the international charts of e-Governance, others have just begun their journey. A few are yet to step into the arena. Th e scope of learning from one another is immense and opportunities are unbound. Th e need is to create a common ground of equitable learning, which facilitates a process of overall development of the region.
The Eventegov Asia 2006 the international conference on e-Government, aims to provide a knowledge-sharing platform and a forum for policymakers, practitioners, industry leaders and academicians of Asia-Pacifi c nations to carry forward the e-Government vision of the region and consolidate them into actionable programme, through collaborative learning and partnerships.
ExhibitionEgov Asia 2006 will have an elaborate exhibition of the latest e-Government products, solutions suites, services, initiatives and case studies from all across Asia and beyond. Professional service providers, IT vendors, consulting fi rms, government agencies and national/international development organisations involved in the e-Government domain are encouraged to participate in the exhibition.

Th e increased interest in telecentres in many
developing countries, at a time when the world is moving towards becoming a knowledge society, provides an opportunity for stakeholders to exchange knowledge. In Asia, several tried and tested models of telecentres exist. Th ey vary in their scope and reach, and there are many success stories to share. Yet, the community is neither cohesive nor built as a network of practitioners. Th ey are also important tools for testing alternatives and solutions in the new and emerging markets zone for software and information and communications technologies (ICTs).
Th e forum has been conceptualised to bring together diverse stakeholders and have consultations around the following issues in the three days. Th e Forum will create a lively collaborative dialogue to address the questions that emerge from the fl oor, as well as be creative listeners.
