Sheriff Receives Brotherhood Sisterhood Award
EBR Sheriff Sid Gautreaux received the prestigious Brotherhood Sisterhood Award from 100 Black men and Forum 35. The award is given to those in the Baton Rouge community that have worked to eliminate bias, bigotry and racism across ethnic, gender and religious lines. “We are all aware that the Baton Rouge community has not experienced some of the high-profile situations which other parts of the country have experienced,” John F. Smith Co-chair of the award said. “This is, in part, due to the progress made and the relationships fostered by current and past Brotherhood Sisterhood honorees.” “I am so honored and humbled by this award,” EBR Sheriff Sid Gautreaux said. “ I’ve gone to great lengths to make sure that I have a department that is representa-tive of the community in which we serve. I tell my deputies that when working with other law enforcement agencies, it does not matter the shape or the color of your badge, we are all working toward the same goal. I think the same can be said of people. It does not matter your race, creed, gender, financial background- whatev-er- we should treat all people the same. I live by that. Just like my deputies, I look at what’s in a person’s heart to define them, and nothing else. I hope that I have exemplified that to this community, because now more than ever we all need to come together for the common goal of peace against violence in our community.”
DEPUTIES OF THE MONTH
Corporal James Dawson has been named the Administrative and Support Services Deputy of the Month. Corporal Dawson was hired by the EBRSO in November 1989. He has served the Office in many different capacities and he is now assigned to Building Maintenance. Corporal Dawson is a team player who has great leadership skills and work ethic. We thank him for his loyal and dedicated service.
Corporal Edward Nicholson of the Homicide Division has been named the Detectives and Special Operations Deputy of the Month. He was hired by the EBRSO on June 2, 2008. He was selected for this honor because of his hard work and determination in the Tahereh Gjassemi case. He was instrumental in identifying the person of inter-est and that information was the key to solving the case .
Deputy Daven Woodard is the Corrections Deputy of the Month. Deputy Woodard has been employed with the EBRSO since August 14, 2014. Deputy Woodard performs his job duties efficiently and timely. He pays very close attention to detail to the extent that he has notice fresh scratches on some of the inmates. This information prompted him to conduct investi-gations that revealed that the inmates had been fighting and as a result the inmates were put on lockdown. He is an asset to his shift and the EBRSO.
Cenetra Dabney has been named the Civil Deputy of the Month. Ms. Dabney came to work for the EBRSO in February 1998 and she is currently assigned to Civil Fore-closures where she is responsible for handling the bookkeeping for Garnishments and Sheriff Sales as well as working closely with local attorneys on matters concern-ing foreclosures and garnishments. Ms. Dabney is very compassionate and helpful to the people she comes into contact with on a daily basis. She inspires her co-workers to follow her example and always do their best.
Corporal Johnny Jones has been named the Uniform Patrol Deputy of the Month. Corporal Jones was hired by the Sheriff’s Office on September 6, 2000, and he is currently assigned to the Central Substation. On April 16, 2015, Corporal Jones was dispatched to a call on Greenwell Springs Road for incident involving the Unauthor-ized Use of a Moveable, Aggravated Assault and Illegal Use of a Weapon. Corporal Jones handled the entire investigation and his hard work resulted in the suspect be-ing captured in Livingston Parish.
