Today we have another “Beholding” moment: may we not miss it! This feast of Ascension can escape us, but in our “Rebuilding” season, it becomes a perfect image: As Jesus ascends, He lets go, moves on, and so must we. As we “let go” of former ways (dare we say, of “just Jesus,”) to make way for the new. Jesus promises to send the Spirit right into our homes, an animating Spirit who enlivens us. When we’ve grown comfortable with our old ways, those patterns can sometimes dull our eyes and create ruts where we get stuck. Jesus though, surprises us. He is ever new, revealing God and bring-ing God’s Spirit to us. In our rebuilding, the Spirit will clothe us with the power to witness to God’s abundant mercy and forgiveness as we go our way. Let us “Behold” and welcome these opportunities of grace.

Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Ascension of Our Lord Jesus Christ into heaven. Jesus commissions His disciples to baptize in His Name, remind-ing us that He is always present through the Holy Spirit. We are called to be mindful of the great Grace to which we are called! "Amen, Amen, I say to you, you will weep and mourn, while the world rejoices; you will grieve, but your grief will become joy."

Jesus entrusts us, with all of our imperfections, just like the apostles, to contin-ue His mission on earth. Through our living example to love as Jesus does, He renews, rebuilds and refreshes His Kingdom! Directed by the Holy Spirit, our hearts and our relationships become One in the Body of Christ. Often we experience this in our own mother.

Today we also celebrate Mother's Day! We thank God for the gift of our moth-er and ask God to Bless them wherever they are on earth or in Heaven! Just as Jesus honored His Mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary, may He bless all moth-ers, especially our own. Happy Mother's Day!

Easter Blessings upon your family! Fr. Gabriel

OCTOBEFEST 2016 Hello St. Joseph the Worker Community! Julie and Dan Neebel here. After reading the bulletin for many weeks and ignoring the request for an Octoberfest Chair, we finally heard the call and volunteered. We value the community building that happens at Octoberfest, so we decided to take on the role of Chairing Octoberfest, with the help of many. We really need someone to read this and realize they are hearing the call to be chair of Silent Auction. In addi-tion, we are looking for new ideas to make the event even more fun for the en-tire community and for a few more co-chairs to help with some of the activities, such as the dining room, kitchen, candy & pop wheel, bingo, tractor pull, kids corner, or whatever else you think might be fun to add to Octoberfest. Thank you very much to those who have already volunteered to help. Looking forward 2 seeing the St. Joe’s community come 2-gether 2 have fun at Octoberfest on Sunday, October 2. We can be reached at [email protected] or [email protected] or by phone at 563 495 2680 (Dan) or 563 557 8986 (Julie).
