SUPPORT THE CATHOLIC RELIEF SERVICES COLLECTION

HELP esusIN DISGUISE

DEAR FATHER,

The Catholic Relief Services Collection (CRSC) funds six different Catholic agencies that serve our suffering brothers and sisters around the world. These agencies provide a broad range of services, including advocating for immigrants, providing humanitarian aid in the wake of natural disasters, resettling displaced individuals, and working for increased peace in our world. This work seeks to help Jesus in disguise.

In the developing world, it is often hard for families to support themselves and their children. Sophie, a widow working in a village in Burkina Faso, was struggling to feed her family and pay for schooling for her children. Thanks to the help of Catholic Relief Services, one of the CRSC-supported organizations, her village was able to set up a Savings and Internal Lending Community (SILC). Through the SILC, members contribute what they can afford, allowing them to pool their resources and save collectively. Members can then borrow to meet press-ing needs or develop business opportunities. Through the SILC, Sophie was able to take out a $200 loan to cover startup costs for her own canteen, a sum that would be nearly impossible for her to save. Her canteen has been very successful and began to pay off in only six months. Her community has benefited too, as she has been able to hire three assistants to work with her. Without the SILC and the work of CRS, it would have been nearly impossible for her, and others like her, to create a sustainable life for her and her family.

We need your help to continue the work of The Catholic Relief Services Collection. The most effective way you can support the collection is to announce it during Mass. This guide includes bulletin announcements and simple steps to promote the collection. If you need additional materials or have questions, please contact the pro-motions director, Bevin Kennedy, at 202-541-3346 or [email protected].

Thank you for helping Jesus in disguise.

Sincerely in the Lord,

Most Rev. Thomas J. RodiArchbishop of MobileChairman, USCCB Committee on National Collections

PASSION The word “passion” connotes deep, focused engagement. It also relates to passivity, interestingly. The deeply passionate person in the Gospel narrative from Luke is Jesus. He appears passive, but he is not. He is wholly self-possessed and wholly present for the one day that begins on Thursday evening at his last meal with his apostles and ends with his burial before sunset the next day. Then follows the long Sabbath silence. The narrative of the Passion is read whole and without pause on the Palm Sunday of the Passion. This story, found in each of the Gospels, is unchanging. We are the ones who change. Each year, we bring ourselves with another year’s history to hear and heed the story we so badly need. Life has its way with us, and we look again to the Passion narratives to learn to follow. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

GOOD FRIDAY

SUPPORT CHRISTIANS IN THE HOLY LAND

Pope Francis has asked our parish to support Christians in the Holy Land. Through the Good Friday Collection, you join with Catholics around the world to stand in solidarity with the Church in the Holy Land. When you contribute to the Pontifical Good Friday Collection, you become an instrument of peace in a troubled land. In these challenging times in the Middle East, your support means that our church will conduct parish ministry, provide Catholic education, feed the hungry, build housing for Christians, maintain shrines and operate refugee centers in the Holy Land. Christians, along with all of the clergy and religious who serve in the Holy Land, will deeply appreciate your prayers and financial help! The political, religious and military challenges in the Holy Land are more complex than ever. The wars, unrest and instability have been especially hard on Christians. Our parish will support Christians in the Holy Land through the Good Friday Collection, as requested by Pope Francis. Like Simon of Cyrene, you can help carry the cross under very difficult circumstances in the Holy Land.

Dimanche 20 Mars 2016 - Année CDimanche des Rameaux et de la Passion du Seigneur

Visaj Jezi Nan tout lekti yo jodi a, nou admire visaj Jezi. Gen de pasaj Levanjil, tou de soti nan Levanjil Sen Lik. Premye a pale nou de antre triyonfal Jezi nan lavil Jerizalèm sou do yon bourik. Yon foul moun akeyi li ak lwanj avèk “Hosanna”, dezyèm la pale de depa Jezi’ soti nan lavil Jerizalèm, ap pote kwa a sou do l ‘. Foul moun yo menm pase’l nan betiz epi yo mande krisifiksyon l’. An premye nou wè yon figi ki fre, byen bèl, nan de twa jou li tounen yon figi chifonen, ak san, ak lapenn.
