Learning Objective

Learning Intention:– We are learning how to identify baselines in order

to progress monitor Math interventions using easyCBM and EXCEED.

Success Criteria:– We will be successful when we can return to our

classrooms and navigate easyCBM in order to progress monitor my intervention students and successfully get data onto EXCEED.

Page 3: EasyCBM Math Progress Monitoring and EXCEED Name Date

How well do you know easyCBM?

• 0- I have never seen that word before• 1-• 2-• 3-• 4-• 5- I have consistent dreams about it

Today’s Agenda

• Set –up student groups on easyCBM for intervention purposes

• Review how to select most appropriate probe for setting baseline/math interventions.

• Create progress monitoring plan on EXCEED using a template and add scores.

To create a specific group of students for progress monitoring purposes you will need to click “Add Group” on the My Students Page.

Once you have clicked Add Group you will need to identify a title for your group.

Once you have entered a title click Ok.

Recommendations–Name group based on the intervention– If you have a very small number of students

that are all in different interventions or taking different grade level probes, name the groups with the student name

To test students in a particular group you will now navigate to the Measures Tab.

Then, click on the Progress Monitoring tab if it does not automatically go there.

Administering Probes

Page 18: EasyCBM Math Progress Monitoring and EXCEED Name Date

Selecting Most Appropriate Probe for Setting Baseline

Scenario 1: If students has taken the easyCBM Math Benchmark as Universal Screener and has been identified for Math intervention through the screening process, teacher should…

Next Step: Administer easyCBM current grade level (or adjusted grade level) probe that aligned to the first math intervention focus to begin to determine which grade level to intervene (handout).

Find percentile of probe score:• Path 1: above the 50th percentile, doesn’t support need for intervention in

that area• Path 2: between the 10th and 50th percentile, use the probe percentile

score as baseline• Path 3: below the 10th percentile, use lower level probe in first math

intervention focus area (handout), making adjustments until the student is scoring between the 10th and 50th percentile, use the probe percentile score as baseline.

Selecting Most Appropriate Probe for Setting Baseline

Scenario 2: If students has taken the Math MAP as Universal Screener and has been identified for Math intervention through the screening process, teacher could…Administer easyCBM current grade level Benchmark assessment (Example: CCSS Math 3*_fall**) to begin to determine which grade level to intervene and administer probe aligned to the first math intervention focus (handout).

*depends on grade of student**depends the time of the year

ORUse the RIT score from MAP to guide them in which grade level to intervene and administer probe aligned to the first math intervention focus (handout)

The easyCBM assessments• The progress monitoring assessments available on

easycbm were developed using Item Response Theory (IRT), a state-of-the-art statistical procedure (the same stats used by the makers of the SAT, the GRE, and most major large-scale assessments).

• IRT differs from classical statistical approaches in that it involves much more complex mathematics, simultaneously estimating the ability of the student and the difficulty of each item based on the pattern of responses across all items taken by all students.

Math Plans on Exceed• After taking a Progress Monitoring probe, you will

get a score• Score must be converted to a percentile, the

percentile is the baseline.• Look at document “Detailed Percentile Table”– Found in easyCBM under REPORTS tab, Assessment TLC, or

MPS RtI/PBIS website

OR Use the summarized version! (handout)

(RECOMMENDED) Also found on the MPS RtI/PBIS website

Creating EXCEED Plans

• Student names that have been identified for academic intervention

• Student’s area of need have been ‘diagnosed’

• Student should have a baseline score ready to be entered (For easyCBM, target is always 50

Frequency of Progress Monitoring

• A easyCBM probe for Math is used every 10th intervention session with the student

• For Math, you will use Odyssey Assessment every 5th intervention session when easyCBM is not used to progress monitor– Not entered Odyssey data into Exceed as a data

point, can be entered as a note on Exceed

Page 56: EasyCBM Math Progress Monitoring and EXCEED Name Date

SLD

• Progress Monitoring must occur and be documented AT GRADE LEVEL and needs to occur every week.

• For Math- an alternative CBM (alternative progress monitoring) must be used every week whenever easyCBM is not being used– School Psychs have received training on what

these are (ie- a 40 problem test on 3 digit division)
