Dear 4-H Friends and Family,

My name is Lindsey Kohls, and I am the Eau Claire County 4-H Summer Intern. I am very honored and excited to be a part of the Eau Claire County 4-H program. I have been a part of 4-H for as long as I can remember; I was a member of the Sunny Valley 4-H Club in Chippewa County for 12 years. During my time in 4-H, I was very involved in photography, forestry, and leadership. I was also a Summer Camp Counselor for three years, where I received the Spirit of Paul Roth Award for enthusiasm, dedication, organization, and leadership skills.

I am currently a student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison studying Political Science and Business Management & Entrepreneurship.

The summer is such a fun, eventful time for 4-H members, and I look forward to meeting you all and helping in any way that I can.

TREATMENT FOSTER PARENTS AND RES-PITE PARENTS NEEDED IN WESTERN WISCONSIN SaintA has been providing safe, nurturing foster homes for children with emotional, behavioral or de-velopmental challenges since 1984. SaintA is looking for responsible individuals/couples with a strong commitment to children in need of care to become treatment foster or respite parents in Western Wiscon-sin. It is critically important for children to have high quality options for out-of-home care after they have experienced abuse or neglect. At SaintA, we work hard to train our foster homes in trauma-informed care, which allows for greater success for the children we place. 2017 Festival Dates

Updates are being made to streamline tri-county events that coincide with the new UW-Extension areas! For 2017, the following events will be combined-watch your newsletters/emails for more information as the events draw closer! (Dates are tentative) -Tri-County Music/Speaking/Demonstration Festival: Saturday, January 28, 2017 at the Mabel Tainter. Dunn County will host the first year. Speaking/Demo Contest will start in the morning with Action Centers and regis-tration. There will be a break from 11am-1pm, with Musicals starting at 1pm and concluding in the after-noon. Speaking Rules were modeled directly after Eau Claire County rules and will be streamlined for all coun-ties. Judging will remain separate for the pre-fair judging (Action Centers/Demos/Illustrated Talks). The top two demonstrations (youth at least 12 years of age) from each county will be selected for WI State Fair. For speaking contests, all participants will receive a participation ribbon and a certificate. The top speaker in each age division will receive a trophy (across all divisions of entries). All Musicals will be awarded either Gold or Silver recognition and special recognition for each club will be given (props, costumes, projection, etc). All divisions will be judged separately (dance against dance, vocal against vocal, etc). Each county will select one performance for WI State Fair. Tri-County Drama/Arts/Crafts/Photo Festival: Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Cadott High School. Chippewa County will host the first year. Rules have been streamlined for prior years and will remain the same. Awards for all three counties will either be Gold or Silver. Mini dramas will be judged against other mini dramas, on stage against other on stage. Each club also receives an award of merit. Up to two youth per club performance will be selected as outstanding performers, and a best actor and best actress will be selected from each county.

2016 WI State 4-H Dog Project Indoor Agility Show

The Eau Claire County Dog Project will be hosting the 2016 Wisconsin State 4-H Dog Project INDOOR Agility Show on August 27, 2016. The show will be held at Smarty Paws, 4175 123rd St, in Chippewa Falls, Wis-consin. Entry deadline is July 16, 2016. For Guidelines and Information Packet, Click HERE

Fitting & Showing Clinic for Market Goats

There will be a Fitting and Showing Clinic for market goats on Saturday, June 25, at 10:30 AM. It is worth 2 points for exhibitors. The clinic will be held at 1402 Bluebird Lane, Elk Mound. If you have questions you can contact Jennifer Meyer at 715-456-5903.

Breakfast in the Valley The 20th Annual Breakfast in the Valley will be held on Friday, June 10, 2016, at the Eau Claire County Exposition Center. This annual event celebrates the importance of agriculture in our lo-cal economy. Breakfast will be served from 5 a.m. -10 a.m. to more than 3,000 people. The menu includes scrambled eggs with ham, cheese, onions and mushrooms, muffins, sliced cheeses, cheese curds, bananas, coffee, milk and juice. Breakfast isn’t complete without the traditional Breakfast in the Valley dessert of custard, corn flakes and strawberries. Other highlights of the breakfast include agricultural displays, business displays, a petting zoo, milk drinking contest with local celebrities, tractor displays, recognition of two local farm fami-lies, Friend of Agriculture award, Eau Claire County Land Con-servation awards and several door prize drawings.

New this year at the Eau Claire County Fair, FAIRly Good Games! The games will start at 11:00 a.m. on the Sunday of the fair, July 31, 2016. They will be held near the Malt Stand in the open space. Anyone can be involved! Games will include a three legged race, egg toss, bean bag toss, and more. Prizes will be awarded!

WANTED: HELP WITH THE FOF RAFFLE

Looking for someone to help with parts of the FOF Raffle and eventually take it over. This could be a job for 1 to 3 people as there are 3 or 4 components to the project. It will be much easier this year as we are reducing the number of tickets being sold, but increasing the ticket cost. MUCH less work than in the past!! Cloverbud/Exploring Judging Schedule

We would like to remind all parents of Cloverbud/Exploring exhibitors that this year we are trying a judging sign –up to avoid the long lines and waiting for judging. If you have not yet signed up for a time for your son or daughter, please call the UW-Extension office at 715-839-4712 to schedule a time. Judging starts at 8:30 and ends at 5:30, with two judges. Near fair time we will just schedule those who haven't called in, so this is your opportunity to make it fit your schedule. THANK YOU!

Club Minutes

Little Red Cardinals April Meeting 2016 Sara Wickman called the meeting to order at Whisper-ing Pines Ceramics. Dawson Flanders and Ethan Gessner did the flag salutes while Ryan Wickman read the treasurer’s report and the secretary’s report. Bev Wickman recapped about how the bee keeping demo would take place in the next meeting. Penny con-firmed our highway cleanup is to take place on May 7, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. Sara brought up the subject of pick-ing what our silent auction basket theme would be. The most popular choice at the moment was a family/ din-ner and movie basket, including gift cards, board games and candy. Bev Wickman again brought up when we would deliver our May Day baskets. We chose to deliv-er them to the Clairemont Nursing home on Monday, 5/2/16 at 5:30 p.m. We also talked about the flowers at the fair. Judy has already bought and planned what to do with them. Penny also reminded everyone to select all their projects by May 1 and turn in your raffle tickets by June 1. The next meeting will take place on May 23, 2016, at

the Brunswick Town Hall at 6:45.

May 2016 Before Sara called the meeting to order Jenny Gruber from the Dunn County Beekeepers gave a presentation on how to care for bees. She is considered a hobbyist because she has fewer than 10 hives. It was a very inter-esting presentation and she even brought some of her honey for people to try. Next the Cloverbuds and ex-plorers gave their group demonstration on how to make no bake energy bites and how to plant a flower. Alison Wahl gave her demonstration on how to make a multimedia creation with recycled materials.

Penny then talked about what activities we wanted to

lead at the Kid’s Day Tent at the fair. We chose that we

wanted to lead golf and have the random sucker pick as

a second choice. Everyone should bring their items for

the Dinner and a Movie Silent Auction basket at the

next meeting. Ryan, Sara, and Alison did a report on

the highway cleanup. Fair entries are due June 1.

Pleasant Hill GoGetters May Meeting Minutes May 9, 2016 The May meeting was called to order by Morgan Thesing-Ritter. The Brandner Family and the Schlewitz Family provided snack. We reviewed old business. The April project meet-ing was held at the Paint Shack. Many of our club members enjoyed painting and seeing friends. Next, we voted on a club fair theme. We also went over new business. Our Annual Vet-eran’s Flag Project held on Saturday, May 14, the Sewing Workshop at Sew Complete also held on May 14, and Monday May 30 will be the 4 H Sher-man Park Clean up and Potluck Families were asked to bring a dish to pass. Our rocket project and launch will be held on June 27 at the Thesing-Ritter Home. Many demonstrations were complet-ed. Respectfully Submitted,

Pleasant Valley Clovers 4-H Club May 16, 2016 The meeting was held at the Pleasant Valley town hall. Before the meeting we finished a leather craft activity by lacing our coin purses. The meeting was called to order by Cullen Kortbein. Pledges were said. We sang happy birthday to Camryn and Cul-len. Roll call was taken. Allison, Lindsay, Kylee, Brett, Teresa, Kaitlynn, Saphira, Tylena, Creed, Will, Katelyn, Emma, Ashlyn, Camryn, Cierra, and Cullen were present. The secretary’s report was read. A motion was made by Cierra and seconded by Lind-say to accept the secretary’s report. The treasurer’s report was read. For old business, we reported on the Gem and Mineral show. Each member received an Ammonite fossil and thank you notes will be sent to Jean Hince and Christine Koerner for all of their help with at the Gem & Mineral show. Kylee talked about Space Camp. We had a reminder to pay for club shirts if you haven’t yet.

For new business, we talked about our Rural Life Sunday. Let Kathy know if you want members to stop at your house as part of the club tour to see member’s projects. Otherwise we will meet at Wathke’s at 4:00 on June 26. We will perform the Dra-ma fest play, stain the benches, and have an informal meeting. We talked about the Fair booth and Entertainment, talk to Cyndi if you have any ideas. Members suggested a Star Wars theme. We set a budget for the Silent Auction donation. A motion was made by Creed and seconded by Brett to spend $35. Allison suggested donating money to Feed My People Food Bank as part of last weekend’s Stamp Out Hunger event. The motion was made by Creed and second by Lindsay to donate $10. Mem-bers were also asked if they wanted to participate in “Operation: Blanket Eau Claire.” Wendy will check into getting the supplies to make 2 or 3 blankets at the August Meeting.

No Youth leader’s report. OYC is selling T-shirts. For Leader’s report, we were reminded of Fair entry deadline on June 1 at 4:30pm. The 4-H fiscal year ends June 30. Please look at the Clo-ver Leaves carefully as there is a lot of fair information and changes to the fair schedule. A motion was made by Creed and seconded by Will to adjourn the meeting. After the meeting, Saphira gave a demonstration on making a wreath and Tylena gave demonstrations on making a sand art project and playing recorder. Duerkops brought snacks.
