Welcome-- We are glad you could join us today! It is our hope that this service is a blessing to you. Please join us for worship again soon.

    • Please save the last two rows of pews for parents with small children.

    • Parents with little ones: If your child becomes restless during the service, that’s okay… We’re glad they’re here, and Jesus is pleased when they are brought to hear his Word: “Let the little children come to me.” If you need to be with your child in the Fellowship Hall, the service can be heard through a speaker. We also have Children’s Church during the service following the Children’s message down the preschool hallway.

    • Five minutes before the worship service begins the usher will light the candles. This is our sig-nal to quiet down and prepare our hearts for worship. (There are prayers for worship prepara-tion on page 10 in the front part of the hymnal.)

    • Restrooms are conveniently located to the left as you exit the sanctuary.

    • Everyone is invited to join us in the fellowship hall after worship for coffee, snacks, and con-versation! Please help to keep the chapel clean by leaving all food and drinks in the fellowship hall.

    • Please silence your cell phone before the start of the service.

Opening Hymn Hail to the Lord’s Anointed (Hymn 93, v. 1-3) Please stand.

Invocation P: The grace of our Lord + Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you. C: And also with you. Confession and Absolution P: Father of mercies and God of all consolation, come to the aid of your people, turning us from our sin to live for you alone. Give us the power of your Holy Spirit that we may attend to your Word, confess our sins, receive your forgiveness, and grow into the fullness of your Son Jesus Christ, our Lord and our Redeemer. C: Amen. P: Let us make confession to God. C: Almighty God, Merciful Father: I, a troubled and penitent sinner, confess to you all my sins and iniquities with which I have offended you and for which I justly deserve your punishment. But I am sorry for them, and repent of them, and pray for your boundless mercy. For the sake of the suffering and death of your Son, Jesus Christ, be gracious and merciful to me, a sinful being; forgive my sins, give me your Holy Spirit for the amendment of my sinful life, and bring me to life everlasting. Amen. P: Almighty God in his mercy has given his Son to die for us and, for his sake, forgives us all our sins. Through his Holy Spirit he cleanses us and gives us power to proclaim the mighty deeds of God who called us out of darkness into the splendor of his light. As a called servant of Christ and by his authority, I therefore declare to you the entire forgiveness of all your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. C: Amen. Song of Praise Hail to the Lord’s Anointed (Hymn 93, v. 4)

Prayer of the Day P: Lord God, before the suffering and death of your one and only Son, you revealed his glory on the holy mountain. Grant that we who bear his cross on earth may behold by faith the light of his heavenly glory and so be changed into his likeness; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. C: Amen. Please be seated.

First Lesson Exodus 24: 12, 15-18 The LORD said to Moses, “Come up to me on the mountain and stay here, and I will give you the tablets of stone, with the law and commands I have written for their instruction.” 15 When Moses went up on the mountain, the cloud covered it, 16 and the glory of the LORD settled on Mount Sinai. For six days the cloud covered the mountain, and on the seventh day the LORD called to Moses from within the cloud. 17 To the Israelites the glory of the LORD looked like a consuming fire on top of the mountain. 18 Then Moses entered the cloud as he went on up the mountain. And he stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights. Response Psalm 148 (p. 121) Second Lesson 2 Peter 1: 16-21 We did not follow cleverly invented stories when we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 17 For he received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” 18 We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain. 19 And we have the word of the prophets made more certain, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. 20 Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation. 21 For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. Children’s Message Ages 3 thru grade 5 are invited to come forward for a Bible lesson.

Children’s Church During the service, parents may choose to take their children (ages 2-6) to Children’s Church. There they will hear a Bible story, sing songs, learn a prayer and do a craft. They will return to the sanctuary during the offering.

Hymn of the Day Down from the Mount of Glory (Hymn 97) Sermon Matthew 17: 1-9 After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. 2 There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light. 3 Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus. 4 Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.” 5 While he was still speaking, a bright cloud enveloped them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!” 6 When the disciples heard this, they fell facedown to the ground, terrified. 7 But Jesus came and touched them. “Get up,” he said. “Don’t be afraid.” 8 When they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus. 9 As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus instructed them, “Don’t tell anyone what you have seen, until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.”

“Front-row seats to our Savior’s Glory” Apostles’ Creed (We join together to give public confession of our faith) I believe in God the Father almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting. Amen. Thank Offering “We love because he first loved us.” 1Jn 4:19 God’s love in sending Jesus to live, to suffer, and to die for each of us motivates the members of Beautiful Savior to show their love and thanks by returning a portion of their income to the Lord. Through these free will offerings, this congregation and its ministries are maintained.

Prayer of the Church P: We praise you, O Father, for the precious gift of your Son and for his glorious transfiguration on the holy mountain. Give us the firm resolve to listen to your Son, the eager readiness to believe his promises and the joyful willingness to heed his commandments. C: By the sign of Moses and Elijah, show us that blessed are the dead who die in faith, for they shall know the power of Christ’s resurrection and shall be changed from glory into glory. P: O God and Father, let your Holy Spirit find a dwelling in our poor bodies and transform our weak sinful lives into the radiance of goodness, purity and righteousness. C: Transform our minds, our understanding; our judgments, yes, our whole persons; to reflect the mind of Christ. P: Take our sickness and pain, our disappointments and despair, our sorrows and mourning, our pride and anger, our selfishness and envy, our hate and fear. C: Take all these, O Father, and transform them by the healing touch of Jesus into noble impulses, pure motives, kind thoughts, constructive deeds, high courage and true faith. Special Prayers P: Hear us Lord as we bring you our private petitions. Silent Prayer P: Look on your Church, O Lord, here and in every place, and grant that we and all who bear the name of Christ may daily offer up to you the acceptable sacrifices of repentance, thanksgiving, and loving obedience. C: Hear our prayer, and by your mercy, grant our petitions for Christ’s sake. Amen. the Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen. Please be seated.

Sermon Hymn Jesus Take Us to the Mountain (Hymn 712, printed on p. 8) Closing Prayer P: Merciful God, we thank you for once again having spoken to us through your Word. Let your Word be a light to our path, so that neither the attractions nor the worries of this life may be able to turn our thoughts from the life to come. As we now prepare to leave this house of God, let the Holy Spirit accompany us, so that we may be responsive to your voice speaking to our hearts. Give us forgiveness for yesterday, faith for today, and strength for tomorrow. We ask this of you in the name of Jesus, the name above every name. C: Amen. The Blessing

P: Brothers and sisters, go in peace. Live in harmony with one another. Serve the Lord with gladness.

The Lord bless you and keep you.

The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you.

The Lord look on you with favor and + give you peace.

C: Amen. Closing Hymn May the Peace of God (Hymn 745, printed on p. 9)

2019 Offering Statements and Envelopes Offering statements for 2019 are completed and have been filed in the member mailboxes in the hallway. If you are unable to find yours, or do not have one, please see Dan Walker or Pastor Holz. Also, please pick up your 2020 envelopes on the entryway table.

What’s your 20 in 2020? Malachi 3:10 New International Version (NIV)

“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven

and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.”

Understanding and seeing clearly the joy of giving, we are inviting the members of BSLC to consider an additional gift of thanksgiving in honor of our upcoming 20th anniversary in

2020. Can you give an extra $20 a week? A month? One time? Prayerfully reflect on the blessings God has showered upon you and see how he blesses you and your giving.

Our 20th anniversary service will take place on Sunday, April 26.
