Roadwork Project Resumes
The street rehabilitation project is continuing for the southern part of
the neighborhood (originally Phase II of the project between Chestnut
Street and East-West Highway) which should be complete this
summer. They will then move to Phase I (Glenbrook Village) which
should be complete by summer 2016. More information is available at
tinyurl.com/ebca-roads.
As the newly elected president of
the East Bethesda Citizens
Association, I look forward to
another fantastic year in our
wonderful neighborhood and at
EBCA-hosted events in particular.
Joining me on the EBCA Executive
Committee are Katya Marin (1st
VP), Brittany Barsky (2nd VP),
Jack Hayes (Treasurer), Melissa
Groman (Secretary), and Rebecca
Fayed (Past President). We are
also very fortunate to have the
tremendous support of the
following committee chairs: Monica
Hayes (Education), Pascale Kraus
(Membership), Jay Briar
(Newsletter), Andy O’Hare (Capital
Crescent Trail), Nancy Roman
(Welcome Committee) and Kevin
Kraus (Parks). We are truly well
served by the work of this great
team of people committed to our
neighborhood.
With your support, EBCA brings
many great things to East
Bethesda – events such as the
Labor Day Picnic, the Halloween
Parade, and the Annual Yard Sale.
We also help keep the
neighborhood tidy through
volunteer common space cleanup
President’s Update
By Lisa McCabe, President
Our EBCA community yard sale
will be held on Saturday, May 9th,
9 a.m. to 12 noon on the blacktop
at Lynnbrook Park, 8001 Lynbrook
Drive. Contact Brittany Barsky at
reserve your space. Spaces are $10
for EBCA members and $20 for
non-members.
At the end of the sale, trucks for
donations to A Wider Circle &
Veterans Affairs will be available.
In addition to items you are selling,
these organizations are in need of
many supplies to serve the
community: beds, dressers, tables
and chairs, furniture, televisions,
kitchen items, air conditioning
units, blankets, sheets, towels,
baby items and clothing, small
kitchen appliances, non-perishable
food, and new personal care items.
We’re looking forward to seeing
everyone on May 9th!
Yard Sale:
May 9th days and provide a strong voice in
the wider community. However, we
count entirely on neighbor
volunteerism and paid membership
to make these things happen.
There are so many ways to get
involved; we encourage your
participation in whatever form to
help keep EBCA strong and our
neighborhood one of the most
desirable places to live in the DC
metro area.
To that, I note that our Social
Committee Chair is open! We’d
love to fill the Social Committee
spot with one person or a group of
people willing to organize and plan
our EBCA social events. As a
former Social Committee Chair, I
know first-hand that this is a great
way to meet your neighbors and
have some fun!
If you are connecting with
neighbors through the EBCA
Facebook page, please take a
minute to join the Association and
become a full supporter of your
neighborhood. Our membership
follows the calendar year, so if you
haven’t done so yet this year,
please renew or join. You can reach
me at [email protected].
Park Cleanup:
April 25th
Come help your neighbors clean
up Lynnbrook Park on Saturday,
April 25th anytime from 8 a.m. to 2
p.m. Please bring gloves and
garden tools. See you there! This is
a great opportunity to celebrate
Earth Day and to do some good in
the community!
Neighborhood News Spring 2015
The March EBCA meeting was well attended and
included presentations by Clark Enterprises and
Brookfield Properties regarding Bethesda Metro Plaza
as well as a presentation by the Montgomery County
Planning Department regarding the Bethesda
Downtown Plan. All groups provided a description of
their plans and answered questions from the audience.
The Montgomery County Planning Department will
be hosting a second workshop for the Bethesda
Downtown Plan on Saturday, May 17th, from 9 a.m. to
1 p.m. at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School (4301
East-West Hwy). Planners will present a framework
concept for the plan based on feedback from numerous
community meetings held since last fall, followed by a
break-out session where participants will work in
groups to examine the characteristics of the various
neighborhoods that make up the Downtown Bethesda
area. RSVP’s are encouraged but not required.

Downtown Bethesda
Planning Update
A recommended design for the Bethesda-Chevy
Chase (B-CC) High School addition to increase
capacity from 1665 to 2400 students will be presented
to the Board of Education (BOE) for approval later this
spring. The BOE budget requests an August 2017
completion but funding pressures may push
completion until August 2018. The new B-CC Middle
School (MS) #2 is scheduled to open in August 2017.
The community involvement process to inform which
elementary schools will feed into B-CC MS #2 will
occur in spring 2016 with BOE hearings and action in
November 2016. The addition at Bethesda Elementary
will open in August 2015. Parents interested in
enrolling Kindergarten students next fall should
contact the school now for information and orientation
schedules.

Neighborhood News Spring 2015
Many of you may have noticed
that some initial work has taken
place to beautify the land next to
the cut through on Maryland
Avenue, between South Chelsea
Lane and Chestnut Street. The
property was weeded and sodded,
and trees have been trimmed along
the re-routed path. Members of the
Beautification Committee are
developing a landscape plan to
plant trees, bushes, and flowers
along this space.
If you are interested in helping
this effort in any way – by taking
part in planting, transporting
plants and materials, developing
the landscape plan, fundraising, or
providing plant or dollar donations
to help improve the beauty of our
community, contact Holly Elwood
Trees Available from County A small neighborhood group has
worked with the county to sign up
neighbors interested in receiving a
tree/trees in the right-of-way in
front of their houses. The trees will
be planted once the resurfacing
work is completed. Over 100
households have already signed up
and this first list is already with
the County. We hope to see the
first trees this spring or fall. If you
have already signed up, you do
NOT need to sign up again. You
will be contacted by the County
arborist. The arborist will discuss
the choice of tree, appropriateness
of the space, etc, etc.
However, if you have not yet
signed up, but are interested, there
is still time to do so. The trees are
free and must be planted in the
county right-of-way although there
may be some flexibility if the green
strip is too narrow. The homeowner
must commit to watering the tree
as needed until it is established.
Please email Maj-Britt Dohlie
at [email protected] if you want
to sign up. Make sure to provide
your address and telephone
number.
