Book. Townsend, MA. 1853. Watered marble covers. 125 manuscript pages. At first appearance this album seems to

teacher in the class room. Although subject content for instruction, the writing reflects the writer’s personality.

Materials are varied and wide ranging and include topics as:

• Considerations of punctuation, sentence structure, proper spelling i.e. Apron not Aprun and Effort not Effurt,

• Scientific facts dedicated to the useful and the Agreeable and elocution

• Sections of Ledgers, which at first were thought personal but given the varied content, most likely created as

an example

• A narrative on Arithmetic, referencing page numbers in a book, a complicated Legal Interest Rate calculation

with references to Greenleaf, Geometry text and diagrams, a discussion on Algebra and a demonstration of a

Cube Root.

• A second ledger and a page of receipts (sliced in three parts and written as true receipts) with the instruction

"always write numbers in words on receipts"

• Odds & Ends and Classifications of Elements.

• Entries from 1872 titled Geography with Teacher's Class
