Martes 8 de noviembre- Día de las elecciones generales – no habrá clases.
Viernes 11 de noviembre en Washburn habrá clases.
Jueves 17 de noviembre – Actividad Día de la Puertorriqueñidad en el Centro de Bellas Artes de
Juana Díaz.
Viernes 18 de noviembre – habrá clases
Lunes 21 al viernes 25 de noviembre – no habrá clases para los estudiantes, receso de Acción
de Gracias.

Estimados padres:
Preocupados por la situación de la suspensión del servicio de agua en el sector Coto Laurel por
parte de la Autoridad de Acueductos y cómo ésta puede afectar el proceso enseñanza-
aprendizaje, Washburn programa lo siguiente:
Los días que no hubo clases (1 y 2 de noviembre) serán sustituidos durante el segundo
semestre escolar en los siguientes días:
16 de enero 2017 – Martín Luther King
20 de febrero 2017– Día de los presidentes
Washburn está en el proceso de compra e instalación de dos cisternas para ayudar con el
problema de suspensión del servicio de agua por parte de la AAA.
Nota:
Estuvimos considerando la posibilidad de reponer los dos días de clases suspendidos por los días
21 y 22 de noviembre (durante la semana del receso de Thanksgiving) pero muchos padres han
programado viajes en esta semana. Decidimos programar la reposición de clases para el segundo
semestre ya que para la fecha de enero recién los estudiantes han regresado del receso de
Navidad y los padres pueden hacer los arreglos pertinentes. Si usted no puede enviar al
estudiante estos días por compromisos familiares recuerde que será su responsabilidad conseguir
el material cubierto en clase.

Volviendo a la normalidad en los ofrecimientos educativos de Washburn estructuramos nuestras
labores al énfasis en la docencia. La prioridad en el aprovechamiento del tiempo lectivo nos lleva
a estructurar el tiempo calendarizado para impactar al estudiante y retar el mismo al máximo.
Durante esta y la próxima semana los estudiantes del nivel elemental estarán siendo evaluados en
los niveles de lectura en inglés y español y en las tablas de multiplicar. Se seguirá el calendario
de pruebas formativas ya establecido con los a maestros. Para evitar interrupciones de clases por
falta de agua se han comprado dos cisternas. La próxima semana iniciarán los informes o
presentaciones de los proyectos de Feria Científica, a nivel de cada salón de ciencia. Las
evaluaciones de estos proyectos llegaran a la selección de los proyectos por grado y categoría
que serán seleccionados para la Feria a nivel de escuela.
Continuamos como escuela viva, celebrando los logros de los estudiantes y proveyéndoles
actividades variadas para su desarrollo pleno:

Saludos padres, madres y estudiantes. Durante noviembre, celebramos el Mes de la orientación,
prevención, control y reducción de la obesidad. Según datos del Departamento de Salud, para el
año 2011 se reportó que en Puerto Rico el 18.3% de niños menores de 5 años, participantes del
Programa WIC, presentaban obesidad; el 15.1% de los estudiantes de 9no a 12mo grado estaban
sobrepeso y el 11.8% en obesidad. Por lo tanto, urge tomar acción para reducir la obesidad en
nuestros niños. A continuación comparto algunas recomendaciones de los Centros para el
Control y la Prevención de Enfermedades para evitar la obesidad infantil:
Consumir más frutas y vegetales – Incorporar frutas y vegetales en la alimentación de los
niños, reemplazando los dulces y el exceso de grasas a la hora de comer. Igualmente,
proveer meriendas saludables, evitando golosinas, productos procesados y con colorantes.
Pasar menos tiempo frente a la pantalla – Reduzca los hábitos sedentarios como ver
televisión, utilizar videojuegos o pasar horas frente a la computadora. Lo ideal es limitar
estas actividades a dos (2) horas al día, con lapsos de descanso de la vista cada 30
minutos.
Aumentar la actividad física – Promueva que su hijo haga por lo menos una (1) hora
diaria de actividad física. Por ejemplo: bailar, brincar cuica, correr bicicleta, jugar
baloncesto o practicar algún deporte.
Aumentar el consumo de agua – Más del 60% de nuestro cuerpo está compuesto por agua
por lo que es sumamente necesaria para el funcionamiento óptimo del organismo.
Fomente el consumo de agua en el hogar y reduzca las bebidas azucaradas y refrescos.
Dar el ejemplo – Modele hábitos saludables en familia. Juntos pueden salir a caminar y
comenzar una alimentación saludable.

points out the tradition of the “Three Wise Man Parade” of Juana Díaz. A tradition that is over
100 years old. Hoping having this type of activities more often for our students to enhance their
motivation for reading. “Reading is the bridge to knowledge”

The students are really motivated with learning a third language. It is my
upmost recommendation that you listen to them as they practice.
Also, it is highly recommended that they have a dictionary of French-English so
they can look up for words on their own time and seek self-improvement.
In class assessments I have acknowledged that the students have been studying
and practicing at home. They have completed the work and have helped each
other to complete as well. Keep up the good work!
I have been having trouble with IsiNet. I am waiting for them to fix it so I can
put the grades of the students in the system.
Up until now every student is in good standard, but any doubts feel free to
