required to participate during class. Be sure to test the equipment before
class begins.
Course Description
ClassLive lectures will be held on Wednesday from 6:30 P.M. until 9:15 P.M.
central time. Other workshop sessions may be scheduled as needed. During the lectures we the will cover specific chapters and examples
mentioned in the syllabus. You may use the BA computer lab or the library computers at TAMUC as an alternative or in addition to your personal
computer. I suggest that you download a copy of Minitab on your personal computer in order to complete assignments.
COURSE OBJECTIVE
Objectives of this course is to introduce the student to the basics of quantitative methods and their application to real business situations as well
as the use of current software available for forecasting. After taking this course the students will be able to apply different forecasting techniques to
empirically test economic theories and business policy analysis and professionally and present the results of their analysis in a formal business
report.

GRADING Grades will be based on 3 exams (75 total points) and a formal class project
(total of 25 points). These are shown in red in the course outline above. The
formal Class Project must be completed and submitted on time as scheduled
during the course. If a project and presentation are not provided there will
be little chance of passing the course.
In addition to the 100 basis points I may give extra credit quizzes worth 2 points each. These extra credit quizzes will be given during the online
sessions so be sure to attend or view the online sessions to get the quizzes submitted to me by the due date and time. No late work will be accepted.
Plan in advance for the exams: there will be no early exams and no make-up
exams. An exam that is missed will be considered an F unless I am notified prior to the exam and the excuse is a legitimate medical one or officially
approved. Computer issues are not a valid excuse. Regardless of the excuse,
if you miss two tests you will automatically fail the class. Again, late assignments and projects will not be accepted. Course grades will be
assigned as:
90 – 100 % A 80 – 89 % B
70 – 79 % C 60 – 69 % D

Do not fall behind in this class or underestimate the time it will take to do the assignments. You must do the work when it is required. Experience has
shown that students have a much better chance of success in this course when all assignments are completed and submitted on time.
All assignments must be completed in MS Word and submitted to the
appropriate assignment Dropbox in the course eCollege website. Each
submission should have a filename with your first initial followed by your last name, eco 309 and assignment title (E.g. Class Project).
EXAMS: Each exam will be online and can be found on our class eCollege
website. Each exam is subject to a time limit. For each exam you may be required to download data found in an Excel file in Doc Sharing. You will
have to complete the selection of your answers to exam problems by the specified submission deadline. Late work will not be accepted.
CLASS PROJECT
The project objective is to derive the best two year quarterly forecast for the sales revenue for the company assigned to you. The historical revenue data
from Bloomberg is provided to you in Doc Sharing in excel format. You will be responsible for collecting other data in excel format for variables that you
hypothesize have a causal influence on the assigned company revenue. There are candidates for causal macroeconomic variables also found in Doc
Sharing under Macro Data. In addition, a list of acceptable data sources is
provided in Doc Sharing as well. Your hypothesis and the variable data must be included in a project. A description of the project general outline can be
found in Doc Sharing.
You will need to upload your class project to the appropriate Dropbox folder on e-College by midnight of the specified due date. Your project submission
should include an executive summary of what was done and interpretations of the results. Plots and output without interpretive narrative will be
considered incomplete and will not be graded. Submit everything in Word format including inserted data files in Excel format, a citation for each
variable data series and a label for each of the variables. Do not submit
Excel file or worksheet documents or Minitab worksheets in the assignment Dropbox. Again submit only MS Word documents in the Dropbox.
CLASS, LAB/ WORKSHIP AND OFFICE HOURS: I strongly recommend

TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS
• To fully participate in online courses, you will need to use a current, Flash enabled browser. For PC users, the suggested browser is Internet Explorer 9.0 or 10. For Mac users, the most current update of Firefox is suggested.
• You will need regular access to a computer with a broadband Internet
connection. The minimum computer requirements are: o 512 MB of RAM, 1 GB or more preferred o Broadband connection required courses are heavily video intensive
o Video display capable of high-color 16-bit display 1024 x 768 or higher resolution
• You must have a:
o sound card, which is usually integrated into your desktop or laptop
computer o speakers or headphones.
• You also need a:
o webcam o microphone
For ClassLive Pro, headphones are suggested for use with recording and playback. We recommend a webcam with an integrated microphone, such as the
Microsoft LifeCam Cinema. All devices should be installed and configured before class begins.
• Both versions of Java (32 bit and 64 bit) must be installed and up to date on your machine. Java can be downloaded at:

• Current anti-virus software must be installed and kept up to date.
• You will need some additional free software for enhanced web browsing. Ensure
that you download the free versions of the following software: o Adobe Reader o Adobe Flash Player
• At a minimum, you must have Microsoft Office 2013, 2010, 2007 or Open Office.
Microsoft Office is the standard office productivity software utilized by faculty, students, and staff. Microsoft Word is the standard word processing software, Microsoft Excel is the standard spreadsheet software, and Microsoft PowerPoint
is the standard presentation software. Copying and pasting, along with attaching/uploading documents for assignment submission, will also be required.
