Eco-efficiency

The dominant paradigm of centralized infrastructure development depended on

exploitation of natural resources.

A fundamental shift in the management and use of resources is required.

Eco-efficiency

Eco-efficiency = economic efficiency + ecological efficiency

It means creating more goods and services with ever less use of resources while creating less waste and pollution.


Eco-efficient Water Infrastructure

It can be defined as an integrated approach in water infrastructure

development to achieve ecological and economic efficiency.

It represents a paradigm change of water resource management to a more holistic strategy based on

multiple objectives and balancing ecosystem services, economic

development and human welfare.

For Indonesia, it is referred to as Eco-Sustainable Water

Infrastructure

Current Project on Eco-efficient Water Infrastructure

Project Title : Application of community-based integrated water supply and wastewater treatment systems to improve resilience to climate change

Major target countries : Indonesia, the Philippines;

Target groups: Policymakers of key Ministries involved in environment, science & technology, water and urban development issues, local government officials, relevant communities & national stakeholders;

Project duration : 2011 – 2013.
