Introduction

In India, millions are affected by power cuts, do not have access to clean water, or face health problems due to indoor-smoke inhalation. Eco-friendly products, which remedy these problems, are currently provided through non-profit agencies or sold directly by the product designers. Rather than endorsing any specific product, EcoLife believes that local people, especially the poor, should have a choice in deciding which products are right for them. Our mission is to provide environmentally friendly products to communities in order to improve the health and sanitation of current living standards while reducing carbon emissions.

The EcoLife store started as a Social Enterprise that was officially launched as a project of the Auroville Village Action Group (AVAG) at the end of October 2009. Its core activity is trading eco-friendly products such as low-cost solar lights, water filters, and smokeless stoves that improve the health and sanitation of the current living standards of Indian villagers while reducing carbon emissions. Its profits go back to AVAG to finance its community development programs.

EcoLife strives to implement social change by providing alternatives to traditional, harmful methods that afflict so many of India’s poorest. If EcoLife products are adopted on a mass level, the environmental (total carbon reduction), and social benefits (increased economic productivity for EcoLife Indian distributors and rural economies, health, education, etc) are enormous.

Each poor household consumes 48 to 60 liters of kerosene annually for their lighting needs. Over a five-year period, one kerosene lamp releases one ton of CO2 into the air, affecting environment and human beings as well: indoor pollution is a definitive health hazard. Kerosene is a major cause of fire accident as well; around 2,5 millions including 350,000 children suffer severe burns each year.

The Andslite Lantern has 4 LED´s and it´s special feature is the 360° light output pattern. The body of this lan tern is a very strong ABS body, which makes this product long lasting. For usage it only needs 3 pieces of D size batteries and through its Energy Saving Device it provides more than 32 hours of incandescent light. SmartLite Twister and Classic

The SmartLite Twister and SmartLite Classic are compact florescent lights (CFL), a type of florescent lamp. AEM

Developed by Professor Teruo Higa, of Japan, AEM (active effective microorganisms) solution has multiple benefits to agriculture, aquaculture, floriculture, animal husbandry, domestic activities, and human skin illness .Active bacteria within the solution supports the production of healthy livestock, fish, and plants by increasing yields, controlling pests, and preventing disease. Tulip Water Filter

The Tulip water filter is a low cost filter applicable to rural areas. It uses gravity siphon pressure to force water trough a high-quality ceramic filter. The innovative usage of the siphon results in a flow rate of 4-5 liters per hour. The filter is impregnated with silver in order to increase the bacterial removal of the filter and to reduce the recontamination risk of stored filtered water. The filter element is placed in a container with contaminated water.
