Project Background

Clients bought a small farm, East Cambusmoon, within the Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park.

The existing Victorian farmhouse was in a poor state and was demolished.

Thomas Robinson Architects designed a four bedroom family home to replace the existing one and half storey farmhouse. It had to be traditional in external form and contemporary in internal feel and had to sit comfortably in the landscape of the National Park and with the other neighbouring farm buildings.

The Challenge was minimizing energy consumption while maximizing the views north to Ben Lomond.

Energy Target

Clients run a wind power company, Lomond Energy, and were keen to build an eco home.

They joined the Association of Environmentally Conscious Builders and decided to adopt the Association’s CarbonLite Silver Standard as the specification for energy efficiency:

80% improvement on current buildings standards.

“Our objective was to achieve this specification without breaking the bank or giving local builders a problem.”

Insulate Right – Ventilate Right

Heat recovery Heat recovery ventilation system with air to air heat exchanger. Damp, stale air extracted from ‘wet rooms’ and used to pre-warm fresh supply air from outside whichis filtered and then ducted to living areas and bedrooms.

Imagine the condensation here without a ventilation system!
