Gate Valves

General Design & Application Econosto Gate Valves are highly reliable and dependable in service wherever minimum pressure drop is important. They serve as efficient stop / shut off valves with fluid flow in either direction. Because of its low resistance to flow when fully open the gate valve is particularly recommended for use in applications where minimum pressure drop is required. Gate valves are also known as isolating valves.

Where throttling is required, Econosto recommends the use of a globe valve. Close regulation is impossible with a regular Gate valve. Velocity of flow against a partly opened disc may cause vibration and chattering and result in damage to the seat surfaces and the internal assembly as well. Moreover when throttled the disc is subjected to severe wire-drawing erosive effects.

full bore design offers negligible resistance to flow and reduces the pressure drop to the minimum. All Econosto Gate Valves are designed with the wedge positively guided in the body by a slot on one part and a rib on the mating part. The positive guiding action allows the valve to be installed in any position on the line but whenever possible any valve should be installed in the vertical upright position. Econosto Valves are so designed that the wedge completely clears the waterway when fully open.

The Gate Valve bodies are designed in such a way that the entire valve has more rigidity under line strains, providing maximum strength and increased resistance to shock and distortion. Gate Valves are not recommended for use on lines containing abrasive materials due to the sliding action of the wedge against the body seat as the valve is open and closed. Also, Gate Valves should be opened and closed slowly to prevent setting up shock loads which could damage the valve and piping system. An added advantage to closing a gate valve slowly is the washing action which occurs due to the high velocity flow prior to closure. Econosto Gate Valves are available in non-rising stem (NRS) and rising stem (RS) for visual awareness and outside screw and yoke for isolation of stem threads from the line of flow. Rising stem valves with outside screw and yoke iron body gate valves are used on lines where corrosives, high temperatures and solids in the line may be damaging to stem threads. The outside thread design allows easy lubrication of the stem and indicates the position of the wedge (open or close). Non rising stem inside screw gate valves are used on lines where headroom is limited for operation and the stem does not rise vertically which helps to reduce the gland packing wear. The non-rising stem inside screw pattern has the stem actuating thread within the bonnet .
