Tradeoff• Why might an inflation-unemployment tradeoff

exist?

▫ When economy is in a situation where aggregate demand and aggregate supply are meeting at potential GDP and aggregate demand then increases still further, unemployment is likely to be low, but there is a greater chance of too many dollar chasing too few goods and inflation resulting.

Why might an inflation-unemployment

tradeoff exist?• Conversely, when aggregate demand and

aggregate supply are resulting in a level of output below potential output, unemployment is likely to be higher, but with a low level of aggregate demand in the economy, inflation isn’t much of a risk.
