Entrepreneurship Workshop on 5th and 6th February 2016 The department of economics organized the 2nd version of its A flagship Entrepreneurship Workshop programme that has become bigger, better and more impactful with time. This is well pictured by the lively moments captured on camera. The activities spread over 3 months from November 2015 to February 2016 included a host of diverse processes, activities and display of skills. The following outlines a glimpse of this dynamic exercise: Aim:

1. To blend the gap between theory and practice 2. To improve employability skills 3. To develop self-employment skills among students. Activities:

1. Initiating (guidance lectures and meetings) 2. Informative display of charts prepared by students on Entrepreneurship 3. Procuring 4. Costing & Pricing 5. Marketing & Sales 6. Accounting 7. Distribution of  Proceeds 8. Return of unsold products 9. Prize Distribution The highlight was a Guest Lecture on Entrepreneurship by Dr. Rashmi Gopinathan (D. Y. Patil Institute of Management) on 5th Feb 2016. She captivated and enthralled the students by an invigorating presentation that even drew management lessons from the evergreen Bollywood Blockbuster "Sholay". Learning Outcome: The exhibition-cum-sale of in-house products and services by our very own budding entrepreneurs was enthusiastically applauded by all present with a sell-out of some products occurring the very first day. This exercise expanded from a micro to macro scale this year with its turnover increasing by three times to touch almost Rs 20,000. The participating students (more than 200 as volunteers and product/ service providers) developed practical skills in conducting small businesses, cashed-in on the skills they already possessed, learnt to enhance these skills and so developed entrepreneurial skills. While most made profits, some broke even and others learnt lessons through losses. On the whole, there were multiple gains and lessons for all involved. Excursion to the Environment Theme Park, Vishnubaug, Badlapur on 10th Feb 2016

About 40 FY, SY and TYBA students went escorted by five faculty members to the Environment Theme Park, Vishnubaug; Badlapur on 10th Feb 2016.Following is a brief on the day long invigorating and enriching affair. Aim: To sensitize the students to the importance of a clean environment and its conservation. Activities: The day began with a conducted tour by a dynamic retired 75 year old Botany Professor and VET who acquainted the students with the flora and fauna as well as the multiple eco-friendly and healthy practices at the park like nature trail, Bird & Butterfly Trail, botanical trail, rain water harvesting, solar energy, vermin-compost, drip irrigation, biogas, prevention of soil erosion, bare foot garden, formation of rainbow in the admirably sculptured surreal rain forest, pet feeding, tree house etc. A walk through the well-crafted “Rain Forest” also proved very thrilling and educational as were the many adventurous and re-creational activities. Outcome: The whole exercise was a learning experience and felt very rewarding and rejuvenating. The group came back recharged, refreshed and one with nature! "Report of the HBR Ted Themed Book Review Competition": For just over an hour on 7th December 2015, the Audio-Visual Room of the college got transformed into a Harvard lecture hall as the TED-themed Book Review Competition on HBR (or Harvard Business Review books) saw various well-spoken and talented students from multiple disciplines review HBR books on topic ranging from “Blue Ocean Strategy" and "Getting Work Done" to "Managing of Projects". Mr. Dyson Chandy from the Sociology department and Mrs. Lekha Nambiar from the English department judged and critiqued the participants. Their valuable inputs will no doubt hold the students in good stead as they enter the professional world later on in life. This novel type of competition held in the college for the first time was the brainchild of Ms. Sakshi Sambhar from TYBA Economics, who wanted to do something to help the students become "work-ready". Accordingly, with the help of the Librarian Mrs. Meghana Sanjeeva, some special management and work-culture related HBR books were ordered. A display of these books and an orientation for the same was organized as a preclude a month before the competition to facilitate participation. Overall the programme was a grand success according to the participants and audience alike. The success of the programme was truly an encouragement to the mushrooming of such original and good ideas for newer type of competitions.
