Page 2: Economy Lesson Assembly Line

What is mass-production? What is manufacturing?

Key Vocabulary Mass production-the manufacturing of many products at one

time Assembly line-a line of workers and machines that are used to

make a product in steps

Lesson ProcedureMust include adaptations & accommodations for students with special needs

Accommodations, Modifications

Lesson Procedure Students will watch a video on Model T Fords and how they are

made in an assembly line in the Ford plant. The teacher will provide discussion questions about the short

video: How does an assembly line work? How do people work together to be successful? Do you think you could work together to create an effective

assembly line? The teacher will then pass out the template to guide the students to

build an accurate candy Model T Ford. The teacher will divide the class into two groups and assign a team

manager for each group. The teacher will provide the students with explicit directions and

expectations where the group manager has to make sure each worker has an assigned job.

The formation of the assembly line will be:o Pack of Freedent- Body of the Model To Sticky tack gumdrop to front of car bodyo Break toothpick in halfo Poke toothpick into gumdropo Stick 2 front wheels (mints) on with sticky tacko Stick 2 back wheels (mints) on with sticky tacko Stick cab (Starburst) onto back of the body with sticky tacko Bend piece of gum and stick with sticky tack in front of the

starburst- car seato Place round candy up against gumdrop with the toothpick through

the hole- steering wheelo Package the car for delivery in plastic baggieo Move packaged Model T to back table

Modeling the concept The video will be the model of how to correctly work together to

create an effective assembly line. The teacher will provide explicit directions to explain how to

create an effective assembly line.

Independent practice

Page 3: Economy Lesson Assembly Line

Students will work together on their assembly line to correctly build a candy Model T Ford, by following explicit directions from their instruction sheet.

Students will be expected to cooperate to successfully build their Model T Ford.

Adaptations/Accommodations for Students with Special Needs Instructions for assembly line goal have images and text for

auditory and visual learners to have equal opportunities to complete the task.

Groups are heterogeneous to let the students naturally accommodate for lower leveled learners.
