Being responsible citizens

• There are many things we can all do to help protect the environment.

• Save water. Have showers instead of baths. Make sure you turn off taps.

• Save electricity. Turn off lights and electrical appliances when you are not using them.

• Save fuel. Use public transport. Turn the temperature down on your heaters.

• Use waste recycling bins. Never throw pollutants down the sink.

• Respect fauna and flora. Respect these things, especially in nature reserves.

Responsible governments

• National and local governments have the

• obligation to pass laws that help protect the environment and biodiversity. Some of these are:

• Hunting and fishing restrictions. These protect animal populations.

• Water purification systems. These clean our water supplies of harmful substances.

• Animal protection laws. These protect endangered animals and their ecosystems.

• Nature reserves and national parks. In Spain, the national and autonomous governments can declare an area a nature reserve or a national park, in order to protect valuable ecosystems.
