Important: Do not cut into the underlying wood. This will weaken the structure and could cause failure in flight. As an option, you can use a soldering iron or hot knife with light pressure to carefully melt the covering and avoid the potential of cutting into the wood.

4.Slidethewingbackintopositioninthefuselage.Checktomakesurethewingisperpendicular(90°)tothefuselageasshown.Lightlysandtheopeninginthefuselageifnecessarytomakeanyadjustments.

4.Slidethehingesandelevatorintopositiononthestabilizer.Aligntheendoftheelevatorwiththeendofthestabilizer.RemovetheT-pinstopositiontheelevatorasclosetothestabilizeraspossiblewhilemaintainingproperhingegapforadequatethrow.Saturateeachhinge,topandbottom,withthinCA.

Note: Do not use CA accelerator on the hinges. The CA must be allowed to soak into the hinges and surrounding wood to provide the best bond.

Important: Make sure the balance tab of the elevator clears the end of the stabilizer before applying CA to the hinges.

5.RepeatSteps2through4toinstalltheremainingelevator.ApplythinCAtotheelevatorjoineraswellasthehinges.


6.Hingingtherudderfollowsthesameprocedureastheelevators,exceptyoudon’thavetoworryabouttheelevatorjoiner.UsethreeCAhingeswhenattachingtheruddertothefin/fuselage.

7.Thelaststepistohingetheaileronstothewing.Eachaileronusesfourhingestoattachittothewing.

spacer.Slidethespacerintothewheel.4.Positionthespacerinthewheelsoitisoffsettoone

side.Thespacerwillmeasure3/16-inch(5mm)ononeside,1/16-inch(1.5mm)ontheother.UsethinCAtogluethespacerontothewheelonceyouhavethecorrectoffset.

5.Beforeinstallingthewheel,notetheorientationofthewheelpantforthefollowingsteps.Theplywoodsidehasthelightningholes,whilethebalsasideissolid.

6.Slidethewheelintothewheelpant.The3/16-inch(5mm)offsetonthespacerwillbeonthebalsasideofthewheelpant.Passthe4-40x1-inchsocketheadscrewthroughthepantandintothespacer.Useplierstoholdthe4-40nutinsidethewheelpantontheplywoodsideandthreadthescrewintothenut.

7.Slidethescrewthroughthelandinggear.Securethewheelpanttothegearusinga4-40locknut.Tightenthe4-40screwontothelocknutuntiltheassemblyisalmosttight.Atthispointthewheelpantshouldstillbeabletorotate.Usingpliers,holdthe4-40nutinsidethewheelpantandrotatethe4-40socketheadscrewcounterclockwisewhilepositioningthewheelpantatthecorrectangle.Thiswilltightenthewheelpantassemblybetweenthetwonuts.

Note: The two 4-40 nuts will hold the wheel pant in position against the landing gear. You can apply a drop of thin CA between the luck nut and the gear to keep it from coming loose over time if necessary.

2.Theelevatorservoisinstalledintheupperholeinthefuselageusingthehardwareprovidedwithyourservo.Pre-drilltheholesfortheservomountingscrewsusingadrilland1/16-inch(1.5mm)drillbit.Theoutputoftheservowillbeontheleftsidefacingtherearoftheplane.

Note: Notch the fuselage so you can pass the elevator servo lead to the same side of the fuselage as the aileron servo leads.

3.Therudderservoisinstalledinthelowerholeusingthehardwareprovidedwithyourservo.Pre-drilltheholesfortheservomountingscrewsusingadrilland1/16-inch(1.5mm)drillbit.Theoutputfortherudderservowillbeoppositetheelevatorservofacingtherearoftheplane.

4.Securethereceivertothefuselageunderthewingusinghookandlooptape.Routetheantennawiresaccordingtothemanualprovidedwithyourradiosystem.Plugtheservosintotheappropriatepositionsinthereceiver.

Hint: With all the servo leads on the same side of the fuselage the radio installation will look neat and tidy.

7.Turntheradiosystemonandcenterallthetrimsandsticks.Alsomakesureyouarestartingwithacleanprogramifusingaprogrammableradio.Checktheoperationoftheservosatthistime.

8.Withtheradiosystemon,attachtheservohorntotheaileronservo.Positiontheservoarmparalleltotheaileronhingeline.

9.Attachthe53/8-inch(133mm)pushrodtotheouterhole

ofthecontrolhorn.

10.Withtheradiosystemstillon,physicallycentertheaileron.Usethescrewfromthepushrodcontrolconnectortosecurethepushrodtotheconnector.

11.RepeatSteps5through12fortheremainingaileronservo.

12.Slidetheplywoodpushrodsupportonthe11-inch(282mm)elevatorlinkage.


14.Theinstallationoftheelevatorlinkagefollowsthesameprocedureastheaileronlinkage.Removethecoveringforthepushrodguideonlyonthesidethattheguideinsertsfrom.Positiontheguidesothelinkagecanmovefreely.UsethinCAtogluetheguidetothefuselage.

1.Mountyourparticularmotortothesticktypemountusingthehardwareprovidedwiththemount.

Note: Use the included spacers when installing the Park 450 motor.

2.CuttheMotorSticktoalengthof11/8-inch (28mm)as

shownwhenusingaPark400motor.WhenusingaPark450motor,cutthemotorsticktoalengthof7/8-inch(22mm).


3.UsemediumCAtogluethetwomotoroffsetshimstothesidesofthemotorstick.Thisisnecessarytoprovidethecorrectthrustangleforthemotor.Makesurethethinendontheleftshimistowardsthefront,andtheshimontherighthasthethickendoftheshimtowardsthefront.

Note: The left and right of the aircraft are as viewed while sitting in the pilot seat. The photo above shows a view of the right side of the fuselage.

4.Slidethemotormountontothemotorstick.Useadrilland1/16-inch(1.5mm)drillbittodrillapilotholeforthescrewintothemotorstick.Usethe1.5mmx10mmscrewtosecurethemounttothemotorstick.

Note: You can also drill an extra screw in to the opposite side of the mount forward of the one shown to help reduce wear on the motor stick.

Note: Check that your motor has right thrust. The motor will be angled towards the right when viewed from the top of the aircraft as shown.

Important Information About Your Brushless ESC

Make sure your ESC brake is programmed to Off. Also, be sure to use an ESC with the proper 9V cutoff when using 3-cell Li-Po packs, or 6V cutoff when using 2-cell Li-Po packs.

5.Solderanynecessaryconnectorsontothespeedcontrolforthemotorandbattery.Plugthemotorintothespeedcontrol.Attachthespeedcontroltothefuselageusinghookandlooptape.Plugthespeedcontrolintothethrottleportofyourreceiver.

6.Attachthebatterytothesideofthefuselageusinghookandlooptape.Theexactpositionofthebatterycanbechangedforwardorback,dependingonwhatisnecessarytoachievethecorrectcenterofgravity.Turnontheradiosystemandplugthebatteryintothespeedcontrol.Usethethrottletocheckthatthemotorrotatescounterclockwisewhenviewedfromthefront.Ifnot,followthedirectionsincludedwithyourspeedcontroltochangethedirectionofthemotorrotation.

Note: Never check the motor rotation on the bench with the propeller installed. The plane could move and cause serious injury. Always check the motor without the propeller to avoid injury.

Important Information About Your Propeller

It is also very important to check to be sure the propeller is balanced before installing onto the shaft. An unbalanced propeller may strip the gears or cause poor flight characteristics.

Note: If it is necessary to enlarge the hole in the propeller, make sure to check the balance of the propeller afterwards.

7.Attachthepropellerusingtheadapterincludedwiththemotor.


Note:The following image shows the installation of the Park 450 motor with correct spacers between the motor and mount.

Ifnot,don’tattempttofly!Haveyourradioequipmentcheckedoutbythemanufacturer.

2.Double-checkthatallcontrols(aileron,elevator,rudderandthrottle)moveinthecorrectdirection.

3.Besurethatyourtransmitterbatteriesarefullycharged,pertheinstructionsincludedwithyourradio.


PreflightCheck Your Radio

Beforegoingtothefield,besurethatyourbatteriesarefullychargedpertheinstructionsincludedwithyourradio.Chargeboththetransmitterandreceiverpackforyourairplane.Usetherecommendedchargersuppliedwithyourparticularradiosystem,followingtheinstructionsprovidedwiththeradio.Inmostcases,theradioshouldbechargedthenightbeforegoingoutflying.

Beforeeachflyingsession,besuretorangecheckyourradio.Seeyourradiomanualfortherecommendedrangeandinstructionsforyourradiosystem.Eachradiomanufacturerspecifiesdifferentproceduresfortheirradiosystems.Next,startthemotor.Withthemodelsecurelyanchored,checktherangeagain.Therangetestshouldnotbesignificantlyaffected.Ifitis,don’tattempttofly!Haveyourradioequipmentcheckedoutbythemanufacturer.

Note: Keep loose items that can get entangled in the propeller away from the prop. These include loose clothing, or other objects such as pencils and screwdrivers. Especially keep your hands away from the propeller.

Double-checkthatallcontrols(aileron,elevator,rudderandthrottle)moveinthecorrectdirection.

Checktheradioinstallationandmakesureallthecontrolsurfacesaremovingcorrectly(i.e.thecorrectdirectionandwiththerecommendedthrows).Testrunthemotorandmakesureittransitionssmoothlyfromofftofullthrottleandback.Alsoensuretheengineisinstalledaccordingtothemanufacturer’sinstructions,anditwilloperateconsistently.

Checkallthecontrolhorns,servohorns,andclevisestomakesuretheyaresecureandingoodcondition.Replaceanyitemsthatwouldbeconsideredquestionable.Failureofanyofthesecomponentsinflightwouldmeanthelossofyouraircraft.

Flying Your Edge 540 BPFlyingtheEdge540BPisaboutasfunasitcangetatthepark.Averylightwingloadingandextremecontrolthrowsmakeforsomeexciting3Dflying.VerifythatyourCGisatthecorrectlocationasperthemanualandthatyouhaveyourratessetuptoyourliking.Verifyallcontrolthrowsareinthecorrectdirectionandthemotorspinsinthecorrectdirectionaswell.

Pointthemodelintothewindandaddsomethrottletrimuntilthemotorbeginstoturn.Thiswillbeyourflightidle.Now,applypowerslowly.Youwillfindthemodelwillbecomeairborneveryquicklyandatalowspeed.Thismodelexcelsatflyingslowandeasyaswellasslowandextreme.Trimthemodelforlevelflightathalfthrottle.Onlyusefullthrottleformaneuvering.Donotflythismodelfastoratfullthrottleinlevelflight.Doingthiswillresultintheflightcontrolsflutteringandapotentialcatastrophicfailureoftheairframe.

YouwillfindyoucanadjusttheCGtoyourlikingbymovingthebatterypackforeoraftonthefuselage.Alsokeepthebatteryonthefuselagemountedhigh(atleastatwingcenterlineorabove)tohelpinhoveringmaneuversandharriers.
