    REMARKABLE WOMEN

    IN CANNABIS

    PIONEERS PAVING THE WAY

honor of Women’s History Month, Edibles List Magazine would like to

esent you some of the most Remarkable Women in Cannabis.

pecial Thanks to CBCB Berkeley & 420Nurses Los Angeles for providing photo shoot locations.

hen we first decided to do an issuedicated to women, I never realized what

would come to learn about this industry.urrently, the perception is that the marijuanadustry is male dominated; however, aftertting to know the women behind oursiness, I found that is simply not the case.

nnabis is one of those rare things thates not discriminate and is all inclusive.

ore and more women are flocking to ourdustry and I am so thrilled to see howany strong, driven and truly noteworthymales have found their way into theorld of cannabis. I for one, would never inmillion years have thought that I wouldd up here. The overwhelming consensusthe women we featured, is that: we did

ot choose cannabis, cannabis chose us .

lso did not think that women would feelthough it is an asset to be a female in

eed versus other industries, and very fewomen reported actually having negativeperiences in this industry. I wish I could say

the same. One of the first cannabis eventsattended, after leaving the fashion industry, was CannaCon in Seattle. I was unpleasantlycatcalled on the showfloor in front of othervendors by a man who was a bit miffedbecause I would not give him my number. Now, a year later it is rare to see that behavior.

Thankfully, the industry has grow up in a year.

In honor of Women’s History Month andWe Love Cannabis Year (Okay, I made thatup , guilty!) Edibles List Magazine wouldlike to present these Remarkable Womenin Cannabis. Though it is no surprise thatwomen have such an affinity to marijuanaseeing as the plant itself that produces theflower in which we smoke, vape, eat, etc.is in fact a female. There are many moreamazing ladies in the weed world, but wecould not list them all. Here are a few thatwe are sincerely inspired to know. I cannotwait to see who makes the list next yearand remember ladies in the wise words of

Beyonce, ‘We have to step up and takethe lead!’

Kymber is the Director of Sales and a StaffEditor for Edibles Magazine. Pre-cannabisshe was an International account executivefor a high end dress company as well as thelicensing coordinator for a premium denimcompany. Kymber came into the cannabisindustry just over a year ago and she won’t beleaving any time soon. Though her motivesfor entering this industry were financialpromise, it only took one patient story tochange it all for her. Now, she works to furthercannabis awareness and hemp educationthrough building strategic partnerships in thecannabis indusry.

     JAZMIN HUPPCEO, Women Grow

“I love the real meaning of feminism and I amangry the word has been f***d with by peoplewho don’t believe that women and menshould be equal.”

THEINVIGORATING ENTREPRENEUR -J azmin Hupp is the dynamicCEO of Women Grow, a professional networking organizationthat invites women into the legal cannabis industry. They operatemonthly meetings in 44 cities in the United States and Canada, after only eighteen months of being in operation. Jazmin playedan integral part in the early branding and marketing pushes forWomen Grow that has made the organization such a success today.

Her entrepreneurial background is in media, tech and retail. Jazminhas been a founding member of six startups and explained that halfof them had failed. She even offered up some sound advice to y oungentrepreneurs, “You should look for other entrepreneurs who havefailed previously. They will be better at what they do based on havinghad something that didn’t work out in the past.”

Jazmin has been a cannabis user since the age of sixteen; she grewup in a cannabis culture where using it was safe, and weed became analternative to alcohol for her. She is the daughter of a jazz musician –hence Jazmin with a ‘z’. After growing up in Southern Oregon, she wenton to college in New York and quickly realized the cannabis was not areadily available option for most people.

We had a great conversation about being the CEO of a femalecompany, she even joked about how she is probably the person whogets hit on the least in this industry, due to her job. On a more seriousnote, she shed light on some of the issues that significantly hinderwomen from entering the industry, including the policies surroundingchild protective services. She went on to explain that she has madethe choice to not have children in order to continue her work withouthaving to live in fear that her kids will be taken. Jazmin touched uponsomething that truly affects women in this industry and is continuing tokeep women out which is simply unacceptable.

I have to tell you, this woman is a treasure trove of advice and knowledge

especially when it comes to entrepreneurship. She explained theart of effective communication, “There is a performance aspect tohow I communicate, but that is because I value clear and effectivecommunication. So, anytime you are communicating with someoneyou are performing in someway.”

Jazmin was clearly meant to be an entrepreneur and leader. She hasalways had a hard time accepting things that are unfair. Her wisdomgoes beyond her years and it probably has something to do with thefailures she has had to overcome. She persevered and came out ontop with Women Grow.

yone with a bit of common sense knowscannabis isn’t limited to any one gender.

h men and women can benet from thedicinal, therapeutic and recreationalets that the plant is capable of providing.

wever, much of the conversation aroundnabis in modern culture has revolvedund male-centric or unisex concerns.e truth is there are a number of ways inch women uniquely benet. This article isok at opportunities and situations where,

ou are a woman with these female-centriccerns, you can potentially nd new

    portunities or solutions for yourself.

    ASONS TO CONSUME

nstrual cramps can be a debilitatingblem for some women. The related pain duration of incidence can be enoughmpair their ability to work and engage

ay-to-day functions. As with any illness, iety’s primary goal for patients is painef and improving function in society. Inition to its long-standing reputation aseneral cramp pain reliever that femalenabis-consumers worldwide can attestefforts are being made into creating

nstrual-cramp specic cannabis-basedatments. In addition to the standard ways

to relieve menstrual cramps using marijuanaproducts, there are also efforts at targetedproducts like suppositories, such as theForia Relief pill, which offers 60mg of THCand 10mg of CBD per dose (this is 6x therecommended dosage in most medicalstates, and such a product should onlybe used by those with experience and atolerance).

Both men and women can experience eatingdisorders, and we encourage anybodywho fears they may have one to contact amedical professional directly. However, forthose women looking to tilt their appetite abit in one direction or another, cannabis canbe just the thing they’re looking for. Cannabisusage has been tied to healthier body mass,as people who consume are more likely tofall into their respective medical body massindex (BMI).

REASONS TO BE IN THE INDUSTRY

The burgeoning cannabis industry is one thatstill seems to be driven by small businessowners, a category where women andminorities are more likely to be representedand given a fair shake, and in growingnumbers. In industries where monolithicbusinesses are allowed to thrive- see thebeer industry, for example- power tends to

coagulate into the hands of a few powerfuland extremely wealthy men.

Thanks to the decentralized and youngnature of this industry, the cannabis industryis one where women-owned businessesare managing to make a lot of headway.Considering that cannabis is already a billiondollar a year industry and growing, right nowis the perfect time for women to get in andmake their mark.

Researchers from Washington StateUniversity found results that prove morewomen should be smoking more cannabis. While looking to nd out the effectivenessof the plant’s pain-healing qualities overtime, the university found that women are 30percent more susceptible to the pain-healingeffects of weed than t heir male counterparts. They also found that this just builds up theirtolerance. After conducting experiments on

female rats who have a menstrual cyclesimilar to that of women, the researchersfound that compared to males, femalesneeded to up their dose of THC after only10 days of cannabis exposure. Since womenget higher, they build a higher (pun intended)tolerance to it. Thus, the mystery behind whyyour stoner girlfriend can out smoke you isnally solved.

BRITTANY CONFERDirector of Public Relations/Communications, Foria

“I am just happy to be out here helpingwomen.”THE SENSUALENTHUSIAST - Brittany Confer helped launch Foriaalongside with Matthew Gerson in May 2014. She went to Penn Stateand received a degree in Communications. After that she lived in Miamifor a few years, but ultimately ended up at a boutique public relationsagency in Beverly Hills. One day Matthew walked in and began talkingabout cannabis, Brittany was immediately drawn to the project. Shortlythereafter, Brittany left her company and called Matthew to let himknow, the very next day she started working at Foria.

She explained that the statistic that there are currently 26 drugsapproved by the FDA for male sexual pleasure, however, there wasnot a single one on the market for women. This notion drives Brittanyand she explained, “For the first time I was not looking up at the clockwondering if it was 5 o’clock yet. From the very beginning, I was inspiredto do anything that involves cannabis and increasing the quality of lifefor people. It’s been great!”

Clearly, Brittany found her calling and a home in an industry. She wasone of the first in-house PR teams for a cannabis company. ForiaPleasure has quite possibly been the best marketing campaign inthe industry; now Foria Relief has already reached over 200 presshits since their launch last month. Brittany and I went into a longconversation about how Foria’s success is really helping the industry,Once upon a time when you searched for cannabis and sex, it wasreally hard to find some without “XXX” attached to it, and there wasabsolutely no educational material on female sexual health. Nowbecause of Foria, when you search those terms you find a multitude ofwebpages discussing cannabis and female sexual health.

She explained to me that Foria is all about “increasing pleasure anddiminishing pain, naturally”. Though a man created Foria, Matthew is

very serious about helping and empowering women and Brittany hasbeen a one helluvah of a soldier in that mission. She explained thatshe is extremely grateful to Matthew for bringing her into the company.

Foria is literally changing the way that the mainstream media views ourindustry. Brittany explained to me that, “Being a woman in our industry,at this point in time, has been an advantage because the media hasbeen so female focused lately. Media is hungry for stories in theindustry and we [Foria] is happy to give it to them. It is through what weare doing and organizations like Women Grow that will inevitably helpempower women to take over the industry.”

MORIAH BARNHARTEO & Co-Founder, CannaMoms | Dahlia’s Botanicals, ounder | Founding Chair, Women Gr ow Tampa Bay |ounder, GrowBox

You are the leader of your team. Educatend empower yourself.”

HE MAINSTREAM CANNAMOM - Moriah Barnhart has beenving her daughter CBD to treat a brain tumor since 2013. She knewm the beginning that there were far too many children sufferingcause their parents did not know that cannabis might be a way tolp. She explained that it was her own child’s diagnosis that mader see that there were so many other parents out there dealing with

    e same thing.

oriah founded CannaMoms in 2014, the first and only organizationat caters to helping children who need cannabis as a medicine.cording to Moriah, CannaMoms began as a community andpport system that transformed to informal lobbying. Moriahplained her motives behind founding CannaMoms, “I saw needsad in my journey and all I could think about were the children. I

anted to make sure that no other parent would have to watch theirildren suffer because they didn’t know [cannabis could help].”

e also goes on to explain how she has used CannaMoms as an-offensive way to bridge the gap between the cannabis industryd the mainstream. CannaMoms is a 501(c)(3) (pending), which has

board consisting of attorneys, physicians, politically connectedd highly credentialed individuals. She knew that if CannaMoms

as not set up correctly, they would never penetrate the minds of

e mainstream individuals they are trying to reach.

e described how she had to carve out her own place in thedustry since there was nowhere that parents really fit in. Shegan working with Women Grow, which has become a resourcenetworking with other woman who have helped them in theirest to break the stigma of cannabis as a medicine for children.

oriah believes that in the early stages of the industry women weresregarded until some of the women based organizations beganpping up. “There is something empowering about empowering

    her women,” said Moriah.

stly, Moriah had some wise words for parents interested innnabis as a medicine for their children, “Educate and empowerurself. We are taught to not question authority, but this is the first

me in history where parent’s feelings and rights are coming beforeence. Trust yourself in that you know what’s best for your child.”

AUNDRE SPECIALEDirector, CBCB BerkeleyDirector, Phytologie OaklandDirector, Abatin Wellness Center Sacramento

“Be fearless, choose love. Don’t discount

love, volunteering and community activismbecause that will help get you support, it’sincredibly powerful.”

THE COMPASSIONATECAREGIVER - Aundre Speciale, Director ofCBCB Berkeley, Phtyologie Oakland and Abatin Wellness Center inSacramento, is one of the best souls I have had the pleasure of cominginto contact with. She embodies one of the founding pillars of ourindustry, compassion.

Back in the early 90’s, Aundre’s neighbor in Venice, California, wasnone other than the Hemperor himself, Jack Herer. Around the sametime thatThe Emperor Wears No Clothes  was being written, Herer was inthe process of opening The Hemp Booth at Venice Beach, responsiblefor educating vistors about the benefits of hemp and cannabis. Aundredescribed the time Jack asked her to help him work the booth, “Heasked if I wanted to work his hemp booth, I literally had to ask whathemp was. He explained that it was pot and my answer was ‘Hell yeah!’”

From then on, Aundre was a permanent fixture in the Herer entourage. She lived and toured on the hemp bus along with him Captain Ed,the other hemp godfather and several loyalists to the cause. Sheexplained that the bus toured around, mostly in California, to educatepeople about cannabis as a food, fuel, fiber, fun and medicine. “Thiswas some time in the early 90s at the height of the “Just Say No!” andD.A.R.E. campaigns and pot, weed and marijuana were all dirty words,”explained Aundre. She went on to say that because of this uncertaintime, they never knew what kind of situation they would be walkinginto at the next stop. “Sometimes we would be met with protestors, and other times we were met with rally’s in Jack’s honor,” she said.

When her time with the hemp campaign ended, she still remainedactive among the cannabis activism scene. She served on the board ofMarijuana Policy Project and was a founding member of Americans forSafe Access. She also spent time raising her family, until 2004 whenshe went full force back into the industry. She desired to create a placethat she would want to go. A safe access point where the fundamentalidea of compassionate caregiving was stretched further than whatmost were doing.

Aundre opened up several dispensaries with a focus on workingwith the patients to give back to the community. Ultimately, sheopened a fully female run dispensary in Sacramento for less than a$10,000 investment; however, she did things completely differentthan the typical dispensary. “We opened a community centernext door that offered over 200 classes available to the entirecommunity for free. These classes ranged from CPR classes toVeteran support groups, even free haircuts and meals,” said Aundre.

She explained to me that the Choose Love Business Plan, consists ofchoosing love and compassion. When she began creating her styleof collective, she kept the community in mind. “I used to give advice

to people to open up by the dump or by the railroad trackclean up those areas. In Sacramento, we opened rightabandoned lot that was full of trash. We had it cleaned uweek; we worked hard to give back to the whole communa program at the dispensary where you donate your timtrade for medicine. That was how we were able to offer soclasses,” she proclaimed.

We discussed some of the biggest differences between the beginning versus the industry we live in today, “Somdisheartening to go to the business expos and hear thpeople talking down about people who use cannabis, theit for the money. It is also sad to see some of the marginalwho were able to come into the industry in the beginninbeing pushed out,” said Aundre.

Aundre is one of the original few still standing that braveworld in order to create the cannabis industry we know toare interested in learning more information about Auncollectives please go to:

THETALENTEDTECHIE - From Yogi to tech mogul Meghan Larsonvows to be the absolute best at what she does. Meghan and herpartner founded Adistry, the premier cannabis marketing network.Meghan’s background is in marketing for art studios and variouscreative organizations. She met her business partner who waslooking to take on Weedmaps and other finders when they realizedthere was no one offering a great platform for digital marketing inthe cannabis industry; thus, Adistry was born.

Adistry is an advertising platform that offers the industry a solutionfor all cannabis marketing needs. It was also the very first video adserver for the cannabis industry. They offer afull spectrum of servicesincluding ad design and campaign management to publishing adsacross their extensive publisher networks which include events, magazines, and websites.

Meghan found her niche in the market and was able to carve out awhole new section for her to belong in. She is not a baker of deliciousedibles nor is she a collective owner; instead, she is the head of acanna-tech company. I was intrigued to know what it was like fromher perspective of not only being a woman in the industry, but thefemale face of a tech company. Meghan’s answer was perfect:

“I have always been taught by my father to never think women weredifferent. Man, woman, or Martian I want to the best.”

According to Meghan, this industry has been overwhelminglywelcoming to women. Right now the market may be perceived aspredominantly comprised of white males ranging from 21-40 yearsold. However, this does not necessarily lend itself to creativity, whichleads me to believe is precisely the reason as to why there is aninflux of feminine energy coming into this business. Meghan says it best – “We are all the troublemaker pioneers andwe are all in this together”. The weed industry is on the precipice ofchange, so men and women alike are accepted and welcomed inthe pot universe.

ALEXA “LEXI” DAVISOwner & General Manager, Emerald Family Farms

“I believe this industry is becoming a platform full ofsupport for any woman who wants to jump in and takeit head on, all they have to do is jump!”

THEGLORIOUSGROWER  - Alexa “Lexi” Davis is one of the owners ofEmerald Family Farms (EFF), a company representing Master Gardeners,Breeders, Healers, and small batch private reserve farmers, that hasbecome one of the fastest growing cooperatives of farms in the EmeraldTriangle. They produce a wide range of products from CO2 oil, shatter, disposable pens, edibles and of course some of the best organic floweron the market. Emerald Family Farms has a network of subsidiary brandsthat they help bring to market and offer a safe haven for smaller farmers.Emerald Family Farms, like its name suggests, is a family striving to bringeveryone to their fullest potential. They enjoy bringing smaller famersinto their network and sourcing the absolute best products the markethas to offer. They are also adamant about keeping the pioneers suchas third and fourth generation cultivators with invaluable knowledge inthe industry.

Both Lexi and her husband Isaiah, were born and raised in HumboldtCounty and have always had a true sense of the roots of this cannabisindustry. Less than a year ago Lexi and Isaiah teamed up with four otherlike-minded individuals to create a wholly organic cooperative, which nowprovides top-quality pesticide and chemical free medicine for patients.Emerald Family Farms is comprised of six active partners who not onlyoversee, but are involved in every aspect of the day-to-day operations ofthe company. Although too busy to give themselves official job titles atthe moment, Lexi serves in a broad management capacity, meaning onany given day one can find her facilitating communication between themanaging partners, streamlining production in the warehouse, workingwith testing laboratories, handling sales, social media, and marketing.

Lexi and Isaiah have been active in lobbying efforts for local cannabisfarmers. “We set it [Emerald Family Farms] up because Isaiah and PatrickMurphy, another partner at EFF, were policy Co-Chairs of CaliforniaCannabis Voice Humboldt (CCVH) and were instrumental in drafting themedical cannabis land use ordinance for Humboldt County.” The ordinancepassed unanimously and Humboldt County became the first and only

county to regulate medical cannabis under current California laws. Theidea was to attempt to bring farmers into compliance and get HumboldtCounty’s stricter cultivation guidelines grandfathered in before statelicenses come into play. “Our passions switched, it was no longer aboutrisk versus reward; it was about what was right and wrong. We had a moralobligation to protect the 15,000 or so small farms in Humboldt and createequal access for small farms into the market place.” Emerald Family Farmswas formed from a set of values including, equal access, safe workingenvironments, responsible agriculture, and protecting the small farmers.

The partners at Emerald Family Farms are passionate about givingback to both our industry and their community. Lexi explains that theyrecently set up a question and answer type workshop with their lawyersand advisors for some of the smaller farms and companies, in order toanswer questions about compliance and what to do when things go legalrecreationally in the future. The meeting was attended by 5 5 people andwas a spinoff from the farmer compliance workshops that CCVH started

last year. The workshops will continue throughout theach month, as a free service to the brands and the farFamily Farms represents and supports.

“It is incredibly advantageous to be a womanin this industry. Don’t take ‘no’ for an answer.”

THE SOBERCANNA-SALESWOMAN - Karin came into the industryby way of payment solutions for cannabis companies including pointof sale banking at dispensaries. She has an extensive background inSales and Sales Training and for her it was a no brainer to step into thecannabis industry. She uses no/low THC products, as she has been sober for 28 yearsand does not like the feeling of being high. Low THC products dohowever; help with her arthritis and anxiety. She also uses cannabistopicals to significantly improve her quality of life. She has not takenpharmaceuticals for her pain in almost 3 years and attributes that tocannabis. You can read more about her story in our February 2016issue (see Issue #21). When I asked her how she likes being a woman in the industry heranswer was short and simple, “Awesome, it’s inspiring to be here. Ithink being a woman and being educated about cannabis and theendocannabinoid system has an affect on how people perceive youin the industry.”

She also explained how the industry has room for everyone. Right now, there are two very distinct types of women in the industry. There arethe professionals and those who embrace the “sex sells” idea. Karinnoted, “I am not a fan of exploiting women to sell anything.” Althoughthere is a place here for both, it would be nice to see a bridge in the gap.

Here is some great advice from Karin to someone looking to get intothe industry:

“Jump in and get educated! This plant provides medicine as well asgetting high. For me, I am on the medicine side of things. I think thereis room for everyone. Most importantly, do not judge. Do not judgecannabis as a plant and do not judge the people using it for whateverreason they need. I was one of those people who judged for a long timeand I missed out on so much.” Karin also owns KC Business Solutions, which provides corporatebackground checks, payroll and payment solutions, as well as businessconsulting and training for the cannabis industry.

Straying away from the norm of cookies andbrownies, Sunni Daze Edibles leaves a taste in your mouththat you will surely remember.

“That is a huge factor for me, if it doesn’t taste good I don’twant to eat it. I also feel that the dosage I have allotted for thepies at 35mg or 100mg is strong enough for an experiencedcannabis consumer as well as a good entry level for a firsttime user. I chose pies because I felt that I had never seen itdone before. I love key lime pie, it’s a nostalgic dessert for meand I really like making it too. Why not make it medicated?Twice as nice!,” said the creator of Sunni Daze Edibles.

he inspiration behind Dhamma Edibles is to provide a healthy, early 100% organic alternative to consuming medical cannabisn an edible form with Vegan and Paleo options. There are severalxceptional brands out there, that are making movements in thedible industry. However, many products being provided areaturated in high fats, gluten, and artificial sugars. eing around females in the industry is great. It’s nott stoners out here!”

RENAISSANCE WOMAN  - Though this industry was bornof the grassroots movement, there is a growing fear that biginess will come in and shut out all the little guys. It is no secretthe cannabis industry is the hottest market for investment right

    w. However, whom should they invest in? How should vendorsk with investors? What deals are good deals? How shouldnabis entrepreneurs (or wannabes) proceed, raise money, growr businesses? These questions are precisely ones that Sheri

owitz, of Artemis Holdings Group, can help answer.

ri represents the “other side” of the industry, but she is usingstanding in business, law and the political realm to help furthercannabis industry domestically and internationally. Due to herutation and integrity, she is able to get in front of the politicians

CEOs of large corporations and non-profits and explain theefits to those who may otherwise be uncomfortable with the

ught of legalizing cannabis. Currently, she is working with theek government to approve a GMP facility to cultivate, processexport medical cannabis to the EU, which will inevitably lead

    ece into an economic upswing.

ri’s background is in entrepreneurship and has had oferal successful careers. She was an actress for eight years, ommodities trader, a lawyer for the DOJ – she actually dealt

asset forfeiture, the set of laws that allows the Feds to seizer assets - without being proven guilty - if suspected to come

m the sale of illegal drugs - like heroin, meth or even cannabis.itionally, she has developed real estate, raised close to $100on for her v entures, and orchestrated leveraged buyouts of ten

nufacturing companies that she operated as CEO and CFO.

ness and finance are going to become an important part of theustry explained Sheri, “If cannabis businesses, dispensaries, cultivators–are going to be successful they need to ensure they

el legally, financially, and operationally, that is what she wants

elp do. Ma rgins are good, they forgive a lot right now, but I aminning to see the landscape strewn with failed businesses. So,

starting to happen and in this industry it can happen fast.”

went on to explain the importance of GMPs (Goodnufacturing Practices) especially at the infused products level.se are used in the pharmaceutical industry and she feels theyd to be adopted into ours. She explained this gap is exactly the

son she came into the industry; she felt she could lend someer expertise gained in 20 years of presiding over and ensuringlity and consistency in manufacturing companies to thenabis industry.

nufacturing is uber male dominated, but Sheri explained thatsteeled herself for the industry and received the respect it waseasy, it was not pleasant, it is not the future. The cannabis

     JENNY R.CEO & Co-Founder, Goodies by Magooch

“Being around females in the industry isgreat. It’s not just stoners out here!”

THEBLAZINBAKER- Goodies by MaGooch has become a force tobe reckoned within the California cannabis market. Jenny and herhusband Rocky formed the company in 2009, after not being ableto find a reliable and consistent edible manufacturer. Rocky wasreally the reason why they began. He could not find an edible he likeduntil they found an older woman making infused olive oil. Slowly butsurely, Jenny found herself making at least a cake a day for Rocky andother family members. Shortly thereafter they found themselves at adispensary trying to sell their edibles.

Jenny explained that she received some amazing branding advice

when she first began. At first Goodies by MaGooch was Fresh Bakedor something in the like, but a dispensary owner looked and them andpointed out five other companies with fresh or baked in the name. Itwas then they realized they needed to create a brand to differentiatethemselves from the competition.

Pre-Cannabis Jenny was a bookkeeper and Rocky was a carpenter inthe union, both were pretty good jobs but she explained that neitherwere as rewarding as their lives now. Now, they are able to truly helppeople. Jenny explained to me that they actually sponsor patients hereand there. They are passionate about giving back to the people whoare truly the foundation of the industry, the patients.

“Being an entrepreneur is part of whand I am out to change an industry!THE CANNA-PET LOVER - Alison Ettel is the CEO of Tcannabis company specializing in high quality, non-p

medicine. They offer a full line of pet and human tincturefrom a very professional background and switched into tindustry after using cannabis for the very first time during hafter a coma from meningitis. It took her months to recovremembers distinctly what cannabis did for her: “The fog cmy brain. I started getting an appetite back, I could walk andfeel this connectivity starting,” she explained.

Alison is not some “dumb stoner”; in fact, she has anextensive background. She holds a few masters degreworked on Wall Street, and a think tank and in software – unttook over and she found her true calling, cannabis. She because she wanted to raise the bar in the industry. She the consistency or quality of the medicine and knew therebetter way. She began by educating herself, took classes anwith doctors, researchers and some of the best alchemWhile learning about cannabis she had an interesting revemore I learned about the plant, the more I became fascinatpotential for the plant is almost limitless,” exclaimed Aliso

The founders began by working with humans and theprogressed into the pet side. Alison is a huge pet lover; she is a dog walker, pet sitter and bakes organic treats the shops in San Francisco. There was not a lot of inforthere for TreatWell in the beginning when it came to pets anNow, Alison is considered one of the leading experts on thbeginning formulations were trial and error when pets haany other option, but they seemed to hit the nail on thequickly, based on some of their outcomes and cases.

Alison is well educated and explained to me that 75% of hebase is women, so she has not had a hard time connectindustry at all, despite being a female. She also went on“People initially underestimate me a lot in this industry. Btalk and I have the knowledge and data to back it up, so perealize that I know what I am talking about.”

She also touched on a subject that I found interesting, “is a clash of old world and new world in the cannabis inof our advantages is that we have many years of anecdowe are able to use this in conjunction with the research adata, which is very powerful. We provide a piece of thethe doctors and vets are seeking in addition to what theyresearch studies.”

CHACHA VAVOOMOwner & Founder, The 420Nurses“When you break it down, gi rls have a homein this industry in any way, shape or form.”THE PROMOTIONAL GENIUS  -  Vanessa “ChaCha VaVoom”Sahagun has turned an organization with only a handful of membersinto an internationally known conglomerate. Women all over theworld are flocking to the 420Nurses as a way for them to bridge thegap between their every day lives and cannabis. The 420Nurses is amarketing company created by women for women providing servicesincluding promotional modeling, online promotions, print distribution, social networking and activism.

The 420Nurses have been severely misjudged in our industry. There arepeople who feel as though the 420Nurses just perpetuate the cycle ofobjectifying women, but what most people do not realize is that thesegirls are professionals. Although some people do not agree with what Ms.VaVoom (as she is most known as) created, it is a platform that allowswomen to come together and find a home within the cannabis industry. She has created a safe haven for women to express themselves withinthe industry. She said it best; “We want[ed] to bring more of a home tothese girls where they’re not going to feel alone. It’s more of a familywhere we are able to grow.”

Vanessa explained that the 420Nurses began out of necessity,“Promotional modeling and cannabis were a part of my life. To mepromotional modeling and being in this industry is huge.” It all startedwith promotional models wearing cannabis clothing and sparkingconversations about pot at various events. The 420Nurses are uniquein the fact that they do not distribute or sell cannabis - they just smokea lot of it!

In addition to promotional modeling, the 420Nurses can be seenadvocating and collecting signatures for CCHI. ChaCha and her crewhave been collecting signatures and assisting in legalization efforts foryears. Many are too quick to judge this woman and this organization.ChaCha explained that 420Nurses is not geared toward sexualizingwomen. It is about empowering women to feel comfortable with cannabis.

Vanessa Sahagun is a truly genuine person. She has created a platformwhere women can express themselves and choose how they representthemselves and the industry. Not everything the 420Nurses do are donewhile scantily clad. These ladies have filled a niche in the market andhave done it extremely well.
