HVAC SPECIFICATIONS

GENERAL INFORMATION

A. GENERAL

1. CONFORM TO ALL GENERAL AND SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF CONTRACT AS SPECIFIED BY ARCHITECT AND/OROWNER.

2. SPECIFICATIONS ARE APPLICABLE TO ALL CONTRACTORS AND/OR SUBCONTRACTORS FOR MECHANICAL ANDELECTRICAL SYSTEMS.

3. CHECK OTHER PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS AND FULLY COORDINATE WITH OTHER TRADES, OWNER ANDARCHITECT REQUIREMENTS.

4. VISIT SITE, CHECK FACILITIES AND CONDITIONS MAKE ALL NECESSARY OBSERVATIONS, MEASUREMENTS, NOTECONDITIONS UNDER WHICH WORK IS TO BE PERFORMED, AND TAKE ALL ITEMS INTO CONSIDERATION IN BID.CONTRACTORS ESTIMATING THIS WORK SHALL VISIT THE SITE AND FULLY INFORM THEMSELVES OF THE NATUREOF THE WORK AND CONDITIONS, AND OBTAIN ALL NECESSARY INFORMATION TO ESTIMATE AND EXECUTE THEWORK. FAILURE TO DO SO WILL IN NO WAY OBLIGATE THE OWNER FOR ANY OMISSIONS OR ERRORSRESULTING FROM SUCH NEGLIGENCE.

5. SYSTEMS ARE TO BE COMPLETE AND WORKABLE IN ALL RESPECTS, PLACED IN OPERATION AND PROPERLYADJUSTED.

6. EACH CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE FOR HIS OWN CLEAN-UP, REMOVAL AND LEGAL DISPOSAL OF ALL RUBBISHDAILY. CONTRACTOR SHALL PROTECT THEIR WORK AND EXISTING OR ADJACENT PROPERTY AGAINST WEATHER,TO MAINTAIN THEIR WORK, MATERIALS, APPARATUS AND FIXTURES FREE FROM INJURY OR DAMAGE. ANY WORKDAMAGED BY FAILURE TO PROVIDE PROTECTION REQUIRED, SHALL BE REMOVED AND REPLACED WITH NEWWORK AT THE CONTRACTOR'S EXPENSE.

7. CONTRACTORS MUST CONFIRM ALL UTILITY COMPANY REQUIREMENTS AND CONNECTION POINTS IN FIELD, PRIORTO STARTING WORK.

8. ARRANGE FOR AND OBTAIN OWNER'S AND INSURANCE REPRESENTATIVE'S PERMISSION FOR ANY SERVICESHUTDOWNS.

9. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR CONSTRUCTION MEANS, METHODS, SEQUENCES OFCONSTRUCTION AND THE SAFETY OF WORKMEN.

10. NO PIPING, DUCTWORK, CONTROLS, ETC., SHALL BE INSTALLED OR ROUTED ABOVE ELECTRICAL PANELS ANDEQUIPMENT OR THROUGH ELEVATOR ROOMS.

11. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL COORDINATE AND OBTAIN A WRITTEN LISTING OF ELECTRICAL CHARACTERISTICS OFALL MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT FROM ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR PRIOR TO ORDERING OF EQUIPMENT. NOADDITIONAL PAYMENT WILL BE MADE FOR LACK OF CONTRACTOR COORDINATION OF ELECTRICALCHARACTERISTICS.

12. DURING THE BUILDING CONSTRUCTION SOME EXISTING INSTALLATION MAY BE EXPOSED THAT WILL HAVE TO BECHANGED, ALTERED, REROUTED AND/OR ABANDONED. ANY SUCH WORK WHICH COMES UNDER THEJURISDICTION OF THIS CONTRACTOR SHALL BE DONE BY THIS CONTRACTOR WITHOUT EXTRA COST TO THEOWNER, AS THOUGH FULLY DETAILED ON PLANS AND/OR DESCRIBED IN THE SPECIFICATIONS.

13. WORK RELATED TO THE EXISTING BUILDING SHALL BE COORDINATED TO MINIMIZE INTERFERENCE ORINTERRUPTION OF NORMAL BUILDING USE BY OWNER. REFER TO ARCHITECTURAL PLANS FOR PHASINGREQUIREMENTS.

B. CODES, PERMITS, STANDARDS AND REGULATIONS

1. CONFORM TO ALL APPLICABLE CODES (LOCAL, STATE, NATIONAL CODES, NFPA, OSHA, ETC.), GOVERNMENTREGULATIONS, UTILITY COMPANY REQUIREMENTS, AND APPLICABLE STANDARDS.

H. CUTTING, PATCHING AND DRILLING

2. NEATLY SAW CUT ALL RECTANGULAR OPENINGS, SET SLEEVE THROUGH OPENING, AND FINISH PATCH ORPROVIDE TRIM FLANGE AROUND OPENING.

3. NEATLY SAW CUT FLOORS FOR SEWER INSTALLATION AND PATCH FLOOR TO MATCH EXISTING, INCLUDINGFLOOR COVERING.

4. CORE DRILL AND SLEEVE ALL ROUND OPENINGS.

5. DO NOT CUT ANY STRUCTURAL COMPONENTS WITHOUT ARCHITECT'S APPROVAL.

6. PATCH AND FINISH TO MATCH ADJACENT AREAS THAT HAVE BEEN CUT, DAMAGED OR MODIFIED AS A RESULTOF THE INSTALLATION OF THE MECHANICAL OR ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT. FIRE STOP ALL PENETRATIONS OF FIRERATED CONSTRUCTION IN A CODE APPROVED MANNER.

7. ALL CONTRACTORS SHALL CONFIRM WITH OWNER, PRIOR TO BID, TIMES AVAILABLE FOR NOISE PRODUCINGWORK SUCH AS CUTTING AND CORE DRILLING OF FLOORS, WALLS, ETC., AS WELL AS TIMES FOR WORK WHICHREQUIRE ACCESS INTO ADJOINING TENANT SPACES. INCLUDE ANY PREMIUM TIME IN BID.

8. EXACT LOCATION OF ROOF TOP AIR CONDITIONING UNITS SHALL BE APPROVED BY OWNER'S STRUCTURALENGINEER.

9. INFORMATION REGARDING REQUIRED PIPE OPENINGS IN WALLS, FLOORS, CHASES, ETC., AND CONCRETEEQUIPMENT PADS OR FOUNDATIONS SHALL BE GIVEN TO THE GENERAL CONTRACTOR BY THIS CONTRACTORPRIOR TO THE CONSTRUCTION PERIOD. IF THIS CONTRACTOR FAILS TO COMPLY WITH THIS REQUEST, OR IFINCORRECT INFORMATION IS GIVEN, THE NECESSARY CUTTING AND PATCHING WILL BE PERFORMED BY THEGENERAL CONTRACTOR, AT THIS CONTRACTOR'S EXPENSE.

I. WARRANTY

1. FULLY WARRANT ALL MATERIALS, EQUIPMENT AND WORKMANSHIP FOR ONE (1) YEAR FROM DATE OFACCEPTANCE.

2. EXTEND ALL MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTIES TO OWNER, INCLUDING ALL EXTENDED WARRANTIES ON HVACEQUIPMENT.

3. REPAIR OR REPLACE WITHOUT CHARGE TO THE OWNER ALL ITEMS FOUND DEFECTIVE DURING THE WARRANTYPERIOD. IN THE CASE OF REPLACEMENT OR REPAIR DUE TO FAILURE WITHIN THE WARRANTY PERIOD, THEWARRANTY ON THAT PORTION OF THE WORK SHALL BE EXTENDED FOR A MINIMUM PERIOD OF ONE (1) YEARFROM THE DATE OF SUCH REPLACEMENT OR REPAIR.

J. SHOP DRAWING SUBMITTALS

1. SUBMIT SHOP DRAWINGS FOR MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT, FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEMS, DUCTWORK, ANDPLUMBING FIXTURES AND EQUIPMENT WITH ADEQUATE DETAILS AND SCALES TO CLEARLY SHOWCONSTRUCTION. INDICATE THE OPERATING CHARACTERISTICS FOR EACH REQUIRED ITEM. CLEARLY IDENTIFYEACH ITEM ON THE SUBMITTAL AS TO MARK, LOCATION AND USE, USING SAME IDENTIFICATION AS PROVIDEDON DESIGN DRAWINGS.

2. DUCTWORK AND FIRE PROTECTION DRAWINGS SHALL BE FULLY DIMENSIONED BASED ON FIELD VERIFIEDBUILDING CLEARANCES AND ARCHITECTURAL CEILING LAYOUTS, AND INDICATE STRUCTURAL, LIGHTING,DUCTWORK AND PIPING AT ALL CRITICAL LOCATIONS.

3. CONTRACTOR SHALL REVIEW AND INDICATE HIS APPROVAL OF EACH SHOP DRAWING PRIOR TO SUBMITTAL FORREVIEW. DO NOT START WORK OR FABRICATION UNTIL SHOP DRAWINGS HAVE BEEN REVIEWED BY THEENGINEER AND RETURNED TO THE CONTRACTOR.

4. SUBMITTALS WILL BE REVIEWED ONLY FOR GENERAL COMPLIANCE WITH THE CONTRACT DOCUMENTS AND NOTFOR DIMENSIONS OR QUANTITIES. THE SUBMITTAL REVIEW SHALL NOT RELIEVE THE CONTRACTOR OFRESPONSIBILITY FOR PURCHASE OF ANY ITEM IN FULL COMPLIANCE WITH THE CONTRACT DOCUMENTS OR ITSCOMPLETE AND PROPER INSTALLATION.

5. WHERE SUBMITTALS VARY FROM THE CONTRACT REQUIREMENTS, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL CLEARLY INDICATEON SUBMITTAL OR ACCOMPANYING DOCUMENTS THE NATURE AND REASON FOR VARIATIONS.

6. REFER TO VARIOUS SECTIONS FOR LISTING OF SHOP DRAWINGS REQUIRED ON THIS PROJECT.

7. EACH MANUFACTURER OR HIS REPRESENTATIVE MUST CHECK THE APPLICATION OF HIS EQUIPMENT AND CERTIFYAT TIME OF SHOP DRAWING SUBMITTAL THAT EQUIPMENT HAS BEEN PROPERLY APPLIED AND CAN BEINSTALLED, SERVICED AND MAINTAINED WHERE INDICATED ON DRAWINGS. ADVISE ENGINEER IN WRITING WITHSUBMITTAL DRAWINGS OF ANY POTENTIAL PROBLEMS. THE MANUFACTURER SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYCHANGES THAT MIGHT BE NECESSARY BECAUSE OF PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF EQUIPMENT THAT HAVENOT BEEN CALLED TO THE ENGINEER'S ATTENTION AT THE TIME OF SUBMITTAL.

K. RECORD DRAWINGS

1. EACH CONTRACTOR OR SUBCONTRACTOR SHALL KEEP ONE (1) COMPLETE SET OF THE CONTRACT WORKINGDRAWINGS ON THE JOB SITE ON WHICH HE SHALL REGULARLY RECORD ANY DEVIATIONS OR CHANGES FROMSUCH CONTRACT DRAWINGS MADE DURING CONSTRUCTION.

2. THESE DRAWINGS SHALL RECORD THE LOCATION OF ALL CONCEALED EQUIPMENT, PIPING, ELECTRIC SERVICE,SEWERS, WASTES, VENTS, DUCTS, CONDUIT AND OTHER PIPING, BY MEASURED DIMENSIONS TO EACH SUCHITEM FROM READILY IDENTIFIABLE AND ACCESSIBLE WALLS OR CORNERS OF THE BUILDING. PLANS ALSOSHALL SHOW INVERT ELEVATION OF SEWERS AND TOP ELEVATION OF ALL OTHER BELOW-GRADE LINES.

3. RECORD DRAWINGS SHALL BE KEPT CLEAN AND UNDAMAGED AND SHALL NOT BE USED FOR ANY PURPOSEOTHER THAN RECORDING DEVIATIONS FROM WORKING DRAWINGS AND EXACT LOCATIONS OF CONCEALEDWORK.

4. AFTER THE PROJECT IS COMPLETED, THESE SETS OF DRAWINGS SHALL BE DELIVERED TO THE ARCHITECT INGOOD CONDITION, AS A PERMANENT RECORD OF THE INSTALLATION AS ACTUALLY CONSTRUCTED.

HEATING, VENTILATING AND AIR CONDITIONING

A. SCOPE

1. FURNISH ALL EQUIPMENT, MATERIALS, LABOR, TOOLS, ETC., FOR THE COMPLETE HVAC SYSTEM. INSTALLCOMPLETE AND PLACE IN OPERATION.

2. HVAC SYSTEM ESSENTIALLY CONSISTS OF BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

3. VERIFY EXACT CONDITIONS IN FIELD AND COORDINATE WITH THESE DRAWINGS AND OTHER TRADES BEFOREBEGINNING NEW WORK.

4. DETERMINE EXACT LOCATIONS FOR ALL NEW AND RELOCATED EQUIPMENT, PIPING, CONDUITS AND DUCTWORKIN FIELD.

5. COORDINATE WORK OF THIS CONTRACT WITH OTHER TRADES. CONFLICTS SHALL IMMEDIATELY BE BROUGHT TOTHE ATTENTION OF THE ARCHITECT. ARCHITECT'S RESOLUTION TO CONFLICTS SHALL BE FINAL.

D. INSULATION

2. INSULATE REFRIGERANT SUCTION LINE WITH 1/2" FRP FOAM PLASTIC INSULATION WITH JOINTS AND SEAMSSEALED VAPOR TIGHT.

3. ALL INSULATION TO BE APPLIED IN FULL ACCORDANCE WITH THE MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDATIONS. ALLINSULATION SHALL COMPLY WITH 25/50 FLAME AND SMOKE HAZARD RATINGS PER ASTM E-84, NFPA 255 AND UL723.

4. PROVIDE REMOVABLE INSULATION SECTIONS TO COVER PARTS OF EQUIPMENT WHICH MUST BE OPENEDPERIODICALLY FOR MAINTENANCE; INCLUDE METAL VESSEL COVERS, FASTENERS, FLANGES, CHILLED WATERPUMPS, FRAMES AND ACCESSORIES.

E. CONDENSATE AND OTHER DRAINS

1. FROM EACH BOILER UNIT, INSTALL TRAPPED CONDENSATE DRAIN OF 1-1/4" PVC RIGID PLASTIC AND TERMINATE ATNEUTRALIZING SYSTEM.

F. EQUIPMENT

1. HVAC CONTRACTOR TO FURNISH ALL HVAC EQUIPMENT INDICATED AND/OR SCHEDULED ON THE DRAWINGSCOMPLETE WITH BASES, ISOLATORS, SUPPORTS AND OTHER REQUIRED ACCESSORIES.

2. INSTALL COMPLETE AND PLACE IN PROPER OPERATION PER MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDATIONS, LUBRICATEAND ADJUST AS REQUIRED. FURNISH AND INSTALL CLEAN SET OF FILTERS PRIOR TO BALANCING.

3. EQUIPMENT TO BE MAKE AND MODEL AS SCHEDULED UNLESS OWNER APPROVED, EQUIVALENT QUALITY ANDPERFORMANCE EQUIPMENT IS SUBMITTED AS SUBSTITUTION. ALL SUBSTITUTIONS SUBJECT TO ACCEPTANCEWITHOUT QUALIFICATION BY OWNER, LANDLORD AND ARCHITECT.

G. BALANCING, START UP AND INSTRUCTIONS

1. AFTER INSTALLATION AND EQUIPMENT IS PLACED IN OPERATION, HVAC CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FORBALANCING SYSTEMS TO DESIGN FLOW WITH REPORT SUBMITTED TO OWNER. BALANCING SHALL BE PERFORMEDBY AN INDEPENDENT CERTIFIED SUBCONTRACTOR.

2. ADJUST AND BALANCE THE AIR SYSTEMS BEFORE HYDRONIC, STEAM, AND REFRIGERANT SYSTEMS. TEST,ADJUST AND BALANCE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEMS DURING SUMMER SEASON AND HEATING SYSTEMS DURINGWINTER SEASON, INCLUDING AT LEAST A PERIOD OF OPERATION AT OUTSIDE CONDITIONS WITHIN 5 DEG F WETBULB TEMPERATURE OF MAXIMUM SUMMER DESIGN CONDITION, AND WITHIN 10 DEG F DRY BULB TEMPERATURE OFMINIMUM WINTER DESIGN CONDITION. TAKE FINAL TEMPERATURE READINGS DURING SEASONAL OPERATION.

3. START UP AND PLACE ALL SYSTEMS IN OPERATION AND TAG ALL SWITCHES AND CONTROLS WITH PERMANENTLABELS.

4. INSTRUCT OWNER ON PROPER OPERATION AND PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE OF SYSTEM.

H. CONTROLS

A. IT IS THE INTENT OF THIS PROJECT TO EXTEND THE EXISTING JOHNSON CONTROLS BUILDING MANAGEMENTSYSTEM (BMS) BASED ON SERVER/THIN CLIENT ARCHITECTURE, WITH SUPPORT FOR MULTIPLE COMMUNICATIONPROTOCOLS, AND DESIGNED AROUND THE OPEN STANDARDS OF WEB TECHNOLOGY. EXTENSION TO THE HEADEND SHAFT PROVIDE A SEAMLESS INTERFACE WITHOUT 3RD PARTY SOFTWARE . IN ADDITION TO OTHERCAPABILITIES DESCRIBED HEREINAFTER, THE BMS SHALL INCLUDE FULL PROGRAMMABILITY OF ALL CONNECTEDNODES (CONTROLLERS PROVIDED BY ATC CONTRACTOR) VIA THE WEB FOR AN AUTHORIZED USER. THE BNSSHALL ALSO INCLUDE IMPLEMENTED OVERRIDE CAPABILITY OF ALL CONTROLLER OUTPUTS ( FOR CONTROLLERSPROVIDED BY THE ATC CONTRACTOR) VIA THE WEB FOR AN AUTHORIZED USER. AN AUTHORIZED USER SHALLALSO BE ABLE TO CREATE/EDIT GRAPHIC SCREENS, TRENDS AND ALARMS WITHOUT THE NEED FOR ANYADDITIONAL HARDWARE AND/OR SOFTWARE.

CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE INSULATION HANGER WITH PROTECTIVE SHIELDS, SUCH AS MICHIGAN HANGER CO.,MODEL NO. 103, OR APPROVED EQUAL FOR ALL INSULATED PIPING. 5 INCH LONG SERICAL CONÐCTION OF 1/2 INCHTHICK CALCIUM SILICATE SECTIONAL PIPE INSULATION WITH FACTORY LONGITUDINAL LAP SHALL BE PROVIDED ATALL HANGER POINTS. BUTT JOINTS SHALL BE SEALED WITH INSULATING CEMENT.

6. STRAP HANGERS SHALL NOT BE PERMITTED.

7. CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE RISER CLAMPS FOR VERTICAL PIPING AT EACH LEVEL. RISER CLAPS SHALL BEMICHIGAN HANGER CO., MODEL NO. 510 FOR STEEL PIPING AND MODEL NO. 511 FOR COPPER TUBING ORAPPROVED EQUAL. USE "SHORT-END" RISER CLAMPS WHERE SPACE IS LIMITED.

8. IN CONCRETE, MICHIGAN HANGER CO., MODEL NO. 355 INSERTS, OR APPROVED EQUAL. INSERTS SHALL PERMITADJUSTMENT FROM 3/4 INCH THROUGH 1-1/4 INCH. IN METAL DECKS, CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE REDHEAD SDIINSERTS, OR APPROVED EQUAL. POWDER PROPELLED INSERTS WILL BE PERMITTED IN NEW CONSTRUCTIONWHERE TYPE AND LOCATION ARE APPROVED BY THE ENGINEER PRIOR TO INSTALLATION.

9. CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE SIDE BEAM CLAMPS FOR SUPPORTING PIPING FROM STRUCTURAL STEEL MEMBERS.BEAM CLAMPS SHALL BE MANUFACTURED BY MICHIGAN HANGER CO., MODEL 300 OR APPROVED EQUAL.

10. WHERE OTHER MEANS OF SUPPORT PIPING ARE REQUIRED OR DESIRED, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLEFOR OBTAINING THE ENGINEER'S APPROVAL PRIOR TO INSTALLING THOSE SUPPORTS.

11. HANGER SHALL BE PROVIDED AT EACH CHANGE OF DIRECTION.

12. HANGERS AND SUPPORTS SHALL BE SPACED AT INTERVALS WHICH WILL PREVENT SAGGING AND REDUCE STRAINON VALVES AND SPECIALTIES. HANGER SPACING SHALL BE NO GREATER AND ROD SIZE SHALL BE NO SMALLERTHAN THAT SHOWN IN THE FOLLOWING TABLE. HANGERS SHALL ALLOW FOR EXPANSION AND CONTRACTION.

4. HINGES SHALL BE CONCEALED SPRING TYPE, TO ALLOW DOORS TO BE OPENED 175 DEGREES. LOCKS SHALL BEFLUSH SCREWDRIVER TYPE WITH STEEL CAMS.

5. ACCESS PANELS SHALL BE 16 INCHES BY 16 INCHES OR LARGER AS MAY BE REQUIRED FOR PROPER ACCESS TOTHE DEVICE BEING SERVED.

N. CONCRETE HOUSEKEEPING PADS

1. ALL EQUIPMENT SHALL BE INSTALLED ON CONCRETE HOUSEKEEPING PADS. MINIMUM PAD THICKNESS SHALL BE6 INCHES. PAD SHALL EXTEND BEYOND THE EQUIPMENT A MINIMUM OF 4 INCHES ON EACH SIDE.

2. CONCRETE PADS SHALL BE PROVIDED BY THIS CONTRACTOR. IT SHALL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE THISCONTRACTOR TO COORDINATE THE SIZE AND LOCATION OF THE CONCRETE HOUSEKEEPING PADS WITH THEGENERAL CONTRACTOR.

O. MOTOR STARTERS

1. UNLESS OTHERWISE INDICATED, EVERY MOTOR NOT SPECIFIED TO BE PROVIDED WITH A CONTROLLER AT THEFACTORY SHALL BE PROVIDED WITH A CONTROLLER AS SPECIFIED HEREIN. CONTROLLERS SHALL BE FURNISHEDBY THIS CONTRACTOR. INSTALLATION OF ALL CONTROLLERS SHALL BE BY THE ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR.

b. MOTOR CIRCUIT PROTECTORS SHALL BE THE CONTINUOUSLY ADJUSTABLE, INSTANTANEOUS MAGNETIC TRIPTYPE CIRCUIT BREAKER AND SHALL BE SO CONSTRUCTED THAT ALL POLES OPEN, CLOSE AND TRIPSIMULTANEOUSLY.

6. OVERLOAD AND SHORT CIRCUIT PROTECTION

a. HEATER ELEMENTS SHALL BE PROVIDED FOR OVERLOAD PROTECTION. MOTOR CIRCUIT PROTECTOR SHALL BEPROVIDED FOR MOTOR SHORT CIRCUIT PROTECTION.

P. DISCONNECT SWITCHES

1. THIS CONTRACTOR SHALL FURNISH ALL SAFETY DISCONNECT SWITCHES (FUSED AND NON-FUSED) REQUIRED FOREQUIPMENT FURNISHED UNDER THIS CONTRACT. IN ADDITION, THIS CONTRACTOR SHALL FURNISH A SAFETYDISCONNECT SWITCH FOR ALL MOTORS AND EQUIPMENT WHICH DO NOT HAVE COMBINATION STARTERS ORINTEGRAL DISCONNECTING MEANS. FUSIBLE DISCONNECT SWITCHES SHALL BE PROVIDED FOR ALL EQUIPMENTRATED FOR USE ONLY WITH FUSES (SUCH AS CONDENSING UNITS, COMPRESSORS, ETC.). SUCH SWITCHESSHALL BE ONE, TWO OR THREE POLE TYPE, WITH SOLID NEUTRAL FOR 4 WIRE SERVICE, AND SHALL HAVE THEPROPER CURRENT AND VOLTAGE RATING AS REQUIRED. INSTALLATION OF ALL DISCONNECT SWITCHES SHALL BEBY THE ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR.

2. ALL SAFETY SWITCHES SHALL BE NEMA HEAVY DUTY TYPE AND SHALL CARRY THE UNDERWRITERS'LABORATORIES LABEL. FUSIBLE SWITCHES SHALL INCORPORATE CLASS "R" FUSE REJECTION FEATURE ANDSHALL BE BRACED TO WITHSTAND 200,000 AMPERE RMS SYMMETRICAL FAULT CURRENT. SAFETY SWITCHESSHALL CONFORM TO FEDERAL SPECIFICATION W-S-865.

3. PROVIDE HEAVY-DUTY TYPE, SHEET ENCLOSED, SAFETY SWITCHES. THE TYPE, SIZE, AND RATING SHALL BE ASINDICATED ON THE DRAWINGS OR AS REQUIRED BY THE MOTOR OR EQUIPMENT SERVED. THE ENCLOSURE FORDISCONNECT SWITCHES SHALL BE NEMA TYPE 1 FOR INDOOR USE, NEMA TYPE 4X FOR OUTDOOR USE AND NEMATYPE 7 FOR EXPLOSION PROOF USE. DISCONNECTS SHALL BE MANUFACTURED BY ALLEN-BRADLEY, GENERALELECTRIC, CUTLER-HAMMER APPROVED EQUAL.

4. SWITCHES SHALL INCORPORATE QUICK-MAKE, QUICK-BREAK OPERATING HANDLES. THE MECHANISM SHALL BEAN INTEGRAL PART OF THE BOX, NOT THE COVER, AND SWITCHES SHALL HAVE A COVER INTERLOCK TO PREVENTUNAUTHORIZED OPENING OF THE SWITCH DOOR IN THE ON POSITION OR CLOSING OF THE SWITCH MECHANISMWITH THE DOOR OPEN. CURRENT CARRYING PARTS SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED OF HIGH-CONDUCTIVITY COPPERWITH SILVER-TUNGSTEN TYPE SWITCH CONTACT.

5. FUSE CLIPS SHALL BE POSITIVE PRESSURE TYPE REINFORCED FUSE CLIPS.

6. THE ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR SHALL FURNISH, INSTALL AND CONNECT ALL POWER WIRING TO ALL MECHANICALCONTRACTOR FURNISHED EQUIPMENT. THE MECHANICAL CONTRACTOR SHALL FURNISH, INSTALL AND CONNECTALL CONTROL WIRING TO ALL FURNISHED EQUIPMENT, INCLUDING CONTROL DEVICES, STARTERS AND INTEGRALDISCONNECT SWITCHES OF CONTRACTOR FURNISHED EQUIPMENT.

Q. VIBRATION ISOLATION

1. ALL EQUIPMENT SHALL BE MOUNTED ON VIBRATION ISOLATORS TO PREVENT THE TRANSMISSION OF VIBRATIONAND MECHANICALLY TRANSMITTED SOUND TO THE BUILDING STRUCTURE.

2. ISOLATION EQUIPMENT SHALL BE THE PRODUCT OF A SINGLE MANUFACTURER, AND SHALL BE DESIGNEDSPECIFICALLY FOR THE APPLICATION REQUIRED. THIS INCLUDES, BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO, PIPING DUCTWORK,PUMPS, COMPRESSORS. VIBRATION ISOLATORS SHALL BE RATED FOR THE WEIGHT AND SPACING REQUIRED FORTHE EQUIPMENT REQUIRING ISOLATION.

R. FIRESTOPPING

1. ALL SERVICES THAT PASS THRU FIRE OR SMOKE RATED PARTITIONS, WALLS, FLOORS, SHALL BE FIRESTOPPED.FIRE STOPPING RATING SHALL MATCH PARTITION RATING. ALL FIRE STOPPING SYSTEM SHALL MEET THEREQUIREMENTS OF ASTM E 814,UL 1479, AND BE FACTORY MUTUAL APPROVED.

2. ALL FIRESTOPING AND/OR SMOKE STOPPING MATERIAL AND INSTALLATION SHALL BE AS MANUFACTURED BY HILTIOR APPROVED EQUAL.

A. GENERAL PROVISIONS

1. REQUIREMENTS SPECIFIED IN DIVISION 1, INSTRUCTIONS TO BIDDERS, SUPPLEMENTAL GENERALCONDITIONS, SPECIAL CONDITIONS, ADDENDA, ALTERNATES, CONTRACT AND PROPOSAL, ALONGWITH DIVISION 16 AND ALL IT'S SECTIONS, COMPRISE THE CONTRACT DOCUMENTS FOR THEELECTRICAL CONTRACT. DRAWINGS AND ALL THEIR REVISIONS UP TO THE BID SUBMITTAL DATEBECOME A BINDING PART OF THE CONTRACT, ALONG WITH THESE SPECIFICATIONS AS THOUGH THEYWERE ONE, AND ANYTHING IMPLIED BY THE SPECIFICATIONS AS THOUGH SHALL BE INTERPRETED ASALSO IMPLIED BY THE DRAWINGS AND VICE VERSA. 5. THE ELECTRICAL DRAWINGS AND SPECIFICATIONS ARE INTENDED TO SUPPLEMENT EACH OTHER.MATERIAL AND LABOR NECESSARY TO THE PROJECT SHALL BE FURNISHED AND INSTALLED EVENTHOUGH NOT SPECIFICALLY MENTIONED IN BOTH. LABOR AND/OR MATERIALS NEITHER SHOWN NORSPECIFIED, BUT OBVIOUSLY NECESSARY FOR THE COMPLETION AND PROPER FUNCTIONING OF THESYSTEM, SHALL BE FURNISHED AND INSTALLED BY THE ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR.

6. ARRANGE ALL EQUIPMENT SUBSTANTIALLY AS SHOWN ON THE DRAWINGS. MAKE DEVIATIONS ONLYWHERE NECESSARY TO AVOID INTERFERENCE. CHECK ALL EQUIPMENT SIZES AGAINST AVAILABLESPACE PRIOR TO SHIPMENT TO AVOID INTERFERENCE.

7. EXAMINE THE WORK OF OTHER TRADES INSOFAR AS THEIR WORK COMES IN CONTACT WITH OR ISCOVERED BY THIS WORK. IN NO CASE ATTACH TO, OR FINISH AGAINST ANY DEFECTIVE WORK ORINSTALL WORK IN A MANNER WHICH WILL PREVENT PROPER INSTALLATION OF THE WORK OF OTHERTRADES.

8. ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR SHALL VERIFY WITH OTHER TRADES ALL ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS.CONTRACTOR SHALL VERIFY VOLTAGE, PHASE AND HORSEPOWER AND SHALL NOTIFY ENGINEER OFDISCREPANCIES PRIOR TO START OF WORK. ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDEDISCONNECTING MEANS AND OVERLOAD PROTECTION FOR ALL EQUIPMENT UNLESS FURNISHEDINTEGRAL WITH EQUIPMENT PACKAGE.

9. IT IS THE INTENT OF THESE DRAWINGS THAT THIS BE A COMPLETE ELECTRICAL JOB, ANY ERRORS OROMISSIONS SHALL BE BROUGHT TO THE ATTENTION OF THE ENGINEER PRIOR TO BIDDING THE JOB.

B. VISIT TO THE SITE

1. THIS CONTRACTOR SHALL VISIT THE SITE OF THE WORK AND FAMILIARIZE THEMSELVES WITH ALLCONDITIONS AFFECTING THIS CONTRACTORS WORK. THE SUBMISSION OF THE PROPOSAL SHALLINDICATE SUCH KNOWLEDGE. NO ADDITIONAL PAYMENT SHALL BE MADE ON CLAIMS THAT ARISEFROM A LACK OF KNOWLEDGE OF THE EXISTING CONDITIONS.

C. CODE AND PERMITS

1. INSTALLATION SHALL BE IN FULL ACCORDANCE WITH ALL CODES, RULES AND REGULATIONS OFMUNICIPAL, CITY, COUNTY, STATE AND PUBLIC UTILITIES AND ALL OTHER AUTHORITIES HAVINGJURISDICTION OVER THE PREMISES.

2. COMPLY WITH ANY SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS THAT ARE IN EXCESS, BUT NOT IN CONFLICT WITHCODE REQUIREMENTS.

3. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL SECURE AND PAY FOR ALL PERMITS, PLAN REVIEWS, AND CERTIFICATES OFINSPECTION IN CONNECTION WITH THE WORK REQUIRED BY THE FOREGOING AUTHORITIES. BEFOREFINAL PAYMENT OF THE CONTRACT IS ALLOWED, ALL CERTIFICATES SHALL BE DELIVERED TO THEARCHITECT IN DUPLICATE.

4. ELECTRICAL MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT SHALL BEAR THE UL LABEL EXCEPT WHERE UL DOES NOTLABEL SUCH TYPES OF MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT.

D. SHOW DRAWING SUBMITTALS

1. THE ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR SHALL SUBMIT FIVE (5) SETS OF SHOP DRAWINGS. THE SHOPDRAWINGS OF THE FOLLOWING EQUIPMENT USING THE INDICATED NUMBERING SYSTEM AND TITLES,SHALL BE SUBMITTED THROUGH THE ARCHITECT TO THE ENGINEER AND THEN RESUBMITTED FOR FINALAPPROVAL IF NECESSARY. SHOP DRAWINGS SHALL BE SUBMITTED FOR THE FOLLOWING ITEMS:

a. PANEL BOARDS, STARTERS, SAFETY SWITCHESb. TRANSFORMERS

2. SUBMITTED SHOP DRAWINGS (MANUFACTURERS' EQUIPMENT DESCRIPTIVE SHEETS OR VENDORS'PREPARED DRAWINGS) SHALL HAVE THE GENERAL CONTRACTOR'S OR SUBCONTRACTOR'S STAMP OFAPPROVAL INDICATING THAT THE ITEM SUBMITTED IS AS CALLED FOR ON THE PLANS ANDSPECIFICATION, IS APPROVED BY THE GENERAL CONTRACTOR OR SUBCONTRACTOR, THE DATE OFAPPROVAL AND INITIALED BY THE PERSON APPROVING THE SUBMITTAL AND THE NAME OF THECOMPANY SUBMITTING SAID EQUIPMENT FOR APPROVAL.

3. SUBMIT BOUND BROCHURES COMPLETE WITH A TABLE OF CONTENTS. LOOSE OR STAPLED TOGETHERSHEETS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE. ANY SUBMITTALS NOT IN BROCHURE FORM OR NOT AS SPECIFIEDSHALL BE RETURNED AT THE CONTRACTORS EXPENSE FOR RESUBMITTAL.

4. ALL DESCRIPTIVE LITERATURE SHALL BE SUBMITTED IN A THREE (3) HOLE BROCHURE WITH A COVERIDENTIFYING THE FOLLOWING:

a. NAME OF THE JOB.b. LOCATION OF THE JOB, ADDRESS, CITY AND STATEc. NAME AND ADDRESS OF THE COMPANY SUBMITTING THE BROCHURES.d. DATE OF THE SUBMITTAL.

5. EVERY EFFORT SHALL BE MADE, IN CHECKING THE SHOP DRAWINGS, TO DETECT AND CORRECT ALLERRORS, OMISSIONS AND INACCURACIES. FAILURE TO DO THIS WILL NOT RELIEVE THE ELECTRICALCONTRACTOR OF THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE PROPER AND COMPLETE INSTALLATION INACCORDANCE WITH THE CONTRACT DOCUMENTS.

E. AS-BUILT DRAWINGS

1. SUBMIT TO THE ARCHITECT ON SET OF REPRODUCIBLE ELECTRICAL DRAWINGS SHOWING THE AS BUILTCONDITIONS.

F. TESTING AND PLACING IN SERVICE

1. ANY MATERIAL OR EQUIPMENT FAILING A TEST SHALL BE REPAIRED OR REPLACED AT THECONTRACTOR'S EXPENSE.

2. TESTS SHALL INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

H. INTERFERENCES

1. L. EXECUTION

1. THE ELECTRICAL WORK FOR CONSTRUCTION PURPOSES SHALL CONFORM TO ALL FEDERAL (OSHA),STATE, ALL SPECIFIC SAFETY REQUIREMENTS AND THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE CURRENT EDITION OFTHE NEC.

3. EQUIPMENT CONNECTIONS, STARTERS, DISCONNECT SWITCHES, CONTROL TRANSFORMERS ANDPUSHBUTTON STATIONS FOR THE EQUIPMENT FURNISHED BY THE OWNER OR UNDER A SEPARATECONTRACT SHALL BE INSTALLED AND CONNECTED UNDER THIS DIVISION, AS INDICATED ON THECONTRACT DRAWINGS.

4. CUTTING AND PATCHING WORK RELATED TO THIS CONTRACT WILL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THEELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR. THIS CONTRACTOR SHALL ASSUME THE RESPONSIBILITY OF PROVIDINGTHE SLEEVES, CHASES AND OPENINGS NECESSARY FOR THE ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION AND FORTHEIR REPAIR IN AN ACCEPTABLE MANNER, AS DETERMINED BY THE ARCHITECT. M. MATERIALS AND QUALITY OF WORK

1. ALL WORK SHALL BE INSTALLED IN A PRACTICAL AND PROFESSIONAL MANNER, BY MECHANICSSKILLED IN THE SEVERAL TRADES NECESSARY.

2. ALL MATERIALS SHALL BE NEW AND FREE FROM DEFECTS AND SHALL BE THE BEST OF THEIRSEVERAL KINDS UNLESS SPECIFIED OR INDICATED ON THE DRAWINGS TO THE CONTRARY.

3. DURING EACH PHASE AND AT THE COMPLETION OF THE CONSTRUCTION, THIS CONTRACTOR SHALLREMOVE ALL DEBRIS AND EXCESS MATERIALS CAUSED BY THIS WORK. THIS CONTRACTOR SHALLLEAVE THE AREA OF OPERATION BROOM CLEAN.

5. THIS CONTRACTOR SHALL GUARANTEE THE QUALITY OF WORK AND MATERIALS (EXCEPT LAMPS) FORA PERIOD OF ONE YEAR FROM THE DATE OF THE BUILDING OPENING AND LEAVE THE WORK INPERFECT ORDER AT THE COMPLETION. N. SCOPE OF WORK

Z. GROUNDING

1. GROUND ALL EQUIPMENT PER N.E.C.

2. GROUND ALL DRY TYPE TRANSFORMERS AS PER DRAWINGS AND NEC #450-9.

3. ALL CONDUITS SHALL CONTAIN A CODE SIZED GROUND WIRE SIZE PER NEC IN ADDITION TO THECONDUCTORS SHOWN ON THE PLANS. WHERE CIRCUIT CONDUCTORS ARE INCREASED IN SIZE FORVOLTAGE DROP, THE GROUND WIRE SIZE SHALL BE INCREASED PROPORTIONATELY.

AA.DRY TYPE TRANSFORMERS

1. TRANSFORMERS SHALL BE CONTINUOUSLY RATED ISOLATING TYPE FOR 60 HERTZ SERVICE UNLESSOTHERWISE INDICATED.

2. INSULATION SYSTEMS SHALL BE 220° C. (150°C RISE).

3. ENCLOSURES FOR TRANSFORMERS SHALL BE METALLIC, SUITABLE FOR INDOOR AND OUTDOORINSULATION AS APPLICABLE AND RODENT PROOF.

4. MANUFACTURER SHALL BE EATON, SQUARE "D", GENERAL ELECTRIC OR L.T.E.-SIEMENS. FRACTIONALKVA TRANSFORMERS SHALL BE MANUFACTURED BY EDWARDS OR THE SPECIAL EQUIPMENTMANUFACTURER IN WHICH THE TRANSFORMERS ARE USED.

5. FOUR APPROVED VIBRATION DAMPENERS PER TRANSFORMER SHALL BE EMPLOYED AS NECESSARY TOAVOID TRANSMITTING ANY VIBRATION TO THE BUILDING STRUCTURE. SIZES OF THE MOUNTINGS SHALLBE SELECTED ON THE BASIS OF THE WEIGHT OF THE TRANSFORMER, USING:

a. A MINIMUM 1" THICK RUBBER-CORK-RUBBER SANDWICH TYPE FOR FLOOR MOUNTING.b. A SPRING TYPE FOR SUSPENSION MOUNTING.c. TWO (2) SPRING TYPE AT THE TOP (WITH TWO (2) STEEL BRACKETS) AND TWO (2) RUBBER-IN COMPRESSION TYPE AT THE BOTTOM (STAND-OFF) FOR WALL MOUNTING.

6. NO CONDUIT SHALL BE ATTACHED DIRECTLY TO THE TRANSFORMER. AT EACH ATTACHMENT, PROVIDEA VIBRATION DAMPENING ASSEMBLY CONSISTING OF:

a. AT&B #5721, 2, 3 ETC., OR EQUIVALENT FEMALE HUB TYPE LIQUID-TIGHT CONNECTOR BY STEEL CITY,EFCOR OR APPROVED EQUAL.

b. T&B #5331, 2, 3 ETC., OR EQUIVALENT MALE HUB TYPE LIQUID-TIGHT CONNECTOR WITH AN INSULATEDTHROAT BY STEEL CITY, EFCOR OR APPROVED EQUAL.

c. SHORT LENGTH (24" PLUS OR MINUS) OF LIQUID-TIGHT FLEXIBLE CONDUIT.d. A BONDING JUMPER OF NEC SIZE OUTSIDE OF THE ASSEMBLY.

BB. PANELBOARDS

1. PANELBOARDS SHALL BE ENCLOSED DEAD FRONT SAFETY TYPE WITH FEATURES AND RATINGS ASSCHEDULED ON DRAWINGS.

2. MOLDED CASE CIRCUIT BREAKERS SHALL BE AS SCHEDULED ON THE DRAWINGS AND SPECIFIED IN THISDIVISION.

3. ALL BUS BARS SHALL BE RECTANGULAR SOLID COPPER.

4. SPACE, WHERE SHOWN IN PANEL SCHEDULES, DESIGNATES SPACE FOR FUTURE PROTECTIVE DEVICESAND SHALL INCLUDE BUS AND SUPPORT.

5. INSTALL CABINETS SO THAT CENTER OF THE TOP BREAKER DOES NOT EXCEED 6'-6" ABOVE THEFINISHED FLOOR.

6. ENTRIES ON DIRECTORY CARDS SHALL BE TYPED, COMPLETE AND ACCURATE.

7. ALL BOLTED CONNECTIONS SHALL BE TORQUED IN ACCORDANCE WITH MANUFACTURERS STANDARDS.

8. ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR SHALL ARRANGE CIRCUITS AS NEAR AS POSSIBLE TO CIRCUIT NUMBERS ONTHE DRAWINGS. AT COMPLETION OF JOB, ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR SHALL TAKE CURRENT READINGCHECKS OF RESPECTIVE PHASES. A MINIMUM OF CIRCUIT CONNECTIONS SHALL BE REARRANGED TOBALANCE, AS CLOSELY AS POSSIBLE, THE LOAD IN THE PANEL.

9. ALL BREAKERS SHALL BE BOLT ON TYPE.

10. MANUFACTURER SHALL BE SQUARE D, SIEMENS, GE OR CUTLER-HAMMER.
