What impact have you had?
In 140 characters or fewer add the impact you had over summer to the whiteboard.
Where did you work? Museum Café in Paris
What did you do? Worked serving on the counter
Tell us about the impact you had on the organisation
How do you know? Most days I noticed particularly around early afternoon that we had long queues
(people in for lunch, some just wanting coffee) and often people wouldn’t wait
especially those wanting coffee to take away.
After a couple of weeks I suggested to my Supervisor that perhaps we could have a
dedicated person (i.e. me! )To go along the queue and identify those who were just
wanting takeaway drinks which I then made to order.
It worked! Queues weren’t as long, people didn’t seem to give up and leave and
even people ordering lunches got their food quicker as queues were smaller. I know
I made an impact on the organisation because daily takings increased, even on
days I wasn’t working we had a dedicated person on takeaways and from a personal
point of view I was offered more hours by my Supervisor. I was really pleased that
my suggestion was adopted and was successful.

Use a range of your experience to provide
evidence that you have the skills they want
Try using CARL framework to form your answer

The interviewer’s perspective:
They want you to be good
They already think you

They need to get it right
They need evidence
They are human

Interview Practice
• We will soon break you out into groups of 3
• In your groups, you will run three interviews – taking turns to play the
roles of Interviewer, Observer, and Candidate
• Make sure you now have a copy of the Interview, Observer, and
Candidate handouts in front of you.
• You also need a pen and paper to take notes, and a timer to keep time
You will have 30 minutes to complete
Interview exercise
Each interview should take 10 minutes. Please ensure you stick to timings. We will be
moving you back into the main room after 30 minutes.
1. Quickly decide who will take which role first (Interviewer, Observer, Candidate)
NB if there are only two of you, remove the Observer role
2. Take one minute to each read over your handouts before you begin
3. After one minute, the Interviewer should begin the interview
4. During the interview, the Interviewer and Observer should take notes. The
Observer should keep time.
5. After the interview, take one minute for all three people to reflect
6. Share feedback for two minutes: Candidate shares reflections first, then
Interviewer, then Observer
7. Move on to next interview
