The 18-year-old col-lege s tudent f rom Reno, Nevada, is the daughter of two women who con-ceived her with a sperm donation. She’s the central figure in “Genera-tion Cryo,” which follows her effort to discover half sib-lings through a reg-istry and, ultimately, track down the donor who gave her life. The first of six episodes debuts Monday night.

The

first recorded artificial insemination came in the 1800s to a woman who

didn’t know she was getting it, said Wendy Kramer, founder and director of the Donor

Sibling Registry. Doctors performed the procedure in the middle of the last cen-tury, but it was mostly kept quiet before the practice became much more wide-spread with the opening of sperm banks in the 1980s, she said.

That means enough “do-nor babies” are coming of age now to prompt public

interest in their experi-ences, ev-

ident in both “Generation Cryo” and the new Vince Vaughn movie “Delivery Man,” about a donor who discovers he’s responsible for more than 500 children.

Kramer said she tried for eight years to get a television network interested in a story drawn from her registry of people trying to connect with other donor fami-lies before MTV showed interest.

“We know that our audience is inter-ested in stories relating to family, and this is definitely a unique and fresh take that really makes you think about what a family is,” said Marshall Eisen, series executive producer.

Kramer admitted to some trepida-tion — “We didn’t want to make a reality show, ‘Donor Kids Gone Bad,’” she said — but is pleased with how it turned out.

Speicher’s nose ring and adeptness with video selfies make her a natural MTV personality and easily relatable for the audience. Eisen’s original interest was in half siblings finding each other, but Speicher’s desire to find her donor adds a richness and level of complexity to the story.

MANILA, Philippines — Grammy-winning singer Alicia Keys visited a Philippine air force base Monday to bring cheer to hundreds of evacuees from eastern provinces wracked by Typhoon Haiyan.

The American singer distributed cray-ons and coloring books to children at the Villamor Air Base grandstand, where evacuees from eastern Leyte and Samar provinces arrive via C-130 planes.

Social Welfare Department officer Jane Abello says Keys stayed for about half an hour to chat with evacuees. The R&B star was in Manila for a concert Monday at the seaside MOA Arena.

The Philippine Star earlier quoted her

as saying that “music has a way of lifting your spirit and that’s what I hope to do for the Filipino people.”

Keys tweeted three days after the Nov. 8 typhoon: “To the people of the Philippines my heart is with you.” She also encouraged fans around the world to donate to the typhoon victims.

EvEry Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc.

The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is con-sidered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion.

The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines.

In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbul-umbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

happen in South Kuta, Badung. At this time, it happened to the Sinaran Surga Luxury Vil-las at Ungasan, South Kuta, where the burglar took action on Saturday (Nov 23). As a result, three local guests at the luxury villa lost their cash and valuables worth IDR 75 mil-lion. The victims consisted of Surunudin, Adi Jaya Putra and Aksan Jaya Putra.

Based on police records, Surunudin suffered a loss worth IDR 17 million in cash, Seiko watch and Nokia mobile phone. Meanwhile, Adi Jaya Putra lost his cash worth IDR 1.5 million and diamond ruby ring. Then, Aksan Jaya Putra in his report claimed to lose cash worth IDR 2 million, Guess watch and perfume. “The total losses valued at IDR 75 mil-lion,” explained a source in

police station.Further, he said the incident

had been reported by the villa security guard named Wayan Wida, 35, on Saturday morn-ing around 5:30 a.m. Security guard of the villa reported the villa break-in action because three occupants of the villa claimed to have lost their money and valuables. “The se-curity guard reported that three guests lost their money and valuables,” the officer said.

On receiving the report, the officers of Criminal Detective Section of Denpasar Metro Police and South Kuta Police conducted an investigation. From the results of examina-tion at the scene, the culprit was alleged to enter into the villa by skipping the bathroom wall. When the victims were sleep soundly, the culprit could steal their possessions at ease. “Allegedly, the culprit came

in from the bathroom wall and amounted to more than one person,” he explained.

Police were still investi-gating the crime scene and conducted the examination of witnesses. Noted, several witnesses had been examined including the villa security guards, villa staff as well as the victims. “Allegedly, the break-in of villa was committed by a specialist. However, is still under investigation. Hopefully, it can be quickly revealed,” the source explained.

Meanwhile, Chief of South Kuta Police, I Wayan Nuriata, when asked for his confirma-tion related to the incident on Sunday (Nov 24) said his party had not received any reports related to the burglary at Si-naran Surga Luxury Villas. “I have not received the report, but I will check it first,” he said. In his speech President Yudhoyono said, “The WFC is needed to complete various other forums that have been in existence in the world, such as the World Economic Forum in Davos and the World Social Forum in Brazil. So far we have not had a culture forum.”

He further stated that the WCF was aimed at establish-ing a common framework for discussion at the local, as well as international levels.

The President said the forum would also contribute to achiev-ing development goals.

“The forum will discuss thor-oughly how culture can help promote sustainable develop-ment,” he said.

The first WCF, which started on Nov. 24 and will conclude on Nov. 27, was first initiated in 2005, but it is only this year that it could it be realized, Education and Culture Minister Moham-mad Nuh said.

Nuh added that a culture forum was needed because without culture there would be no future.

Meanwhile, President Yud-hoyono said that culture af-fected all aspects of life includ-ing a countrys development process.

“Culture is an important com-ponent in human development, as well as in the post-2015 de-velopment agenda,” he said.

He also noted that culture was also key to the success of sustainable development.

“At academic levels, I have seen a lot of people studying culture and economic devel-opment. To us this forum will give an opportunity to discuss how culture can promote sus-tainable development,” he said.

The WFC is being attended by representatives from 40 countries, who will participate in discussions, seminars and dialogue among different cul-

tures. It is hoped that the WFC will help produce a new policy direction that makes cultures a part of sustainable develop-ment and helps formulate an ethics framework to ensure the involvement of communi-ties and stake holders in the development.

The event is expected to produce a draft framework that will guarantee sustainable cul-tural development and to give inputs for the discussion of the post-2015 Millennium Devel-opment Goals programs.

Mangupura (Bali Post)—Kedonganan Pier project could not be completed on time. The project originally

targeted for completion on November 30, 2013, in fact remains to leave a lot of works. To that end, the partner was given extra time until December 14, 2013 to complete its obligation.

The Head of Badung Livestock, Fisheries and Maritime Affairs, Made Badra, when asked for his confirmation on Sunday (Nov 24) admitted if the pier project could not be completed as per initial target. Nevertheless, he denied if the project was said to be delayed. Badra argued there were a number of factors, particularly in the form of additional physical works that made the project unable to be com-pleted as per the initial contract agreement.

He explained that pursuant to the demand of the Chief of Kedonganan custom-ary village and local fishermen, the remaining budget after the pier tender project amounting to approximately IDR 669 million would be used for the installation of paving block in the fish market courtyard heading for the dock area of 1,700 square meters. Some of the fund was also used for the procurement of power supply in the ice factory denoting the assistance from Directorate General of Processing and Marketing of Fishery Products (P2HP), Ministry of Maritime Affairs. Such additional works had caused the addition of second addendum and it finally af-fected the time of project implementation.

In addition, the weather factor and implementation of the APEC conference 2013 were also mentioned to have an impact on the project works. Due to big waves, the wooden buffers were broken so the dock casting process was inter-rupted. Likewise, the vessel berth should wait for the water to recede. During the implementation of APEC, the workers could not work for 10 days.

Based on the results of evaluation made by Directorate General II of the Min-istry of Maritime Affairs, the partner in this case PT Suramadu was finally given additional time for 14 days from the initial contract so the completion date became on December 14, 2013. This deadline had been included in the addendum III.

Meanwhile, based on field observation at the project site on last Sunday after-noon, the workers were still busy working on the causeway and construction of the building. The system at Carnegie Mellon University is called NEIL, short for Never Ending Image Learning. In mid-July, it began searching the Internet for images 24/7 and, in tiny steps, is deciding for itself how those images relate to each other. The goal is to recreate what we call common sense — the ability to learn things without being specifi-cally taught.

It’s a new approach in the quest to solve computing’s Holy Grail: getting a machine to think on its own using a form of common sense. The project is being funded by Google and the Department of De-fense’s Office of Naval Research.

“Any intelligent being needs to have common sense to make decisions,” said Abhinav Gupta, a professor in the Carnegie Mellon Robotics Institute.

NEIL uses advances in computer vision to analyze and identify the shapes and colors in pictures, but it is also slowly discovering connec-tions between objects on its own.

For example, the computers have figured out that zebras tend to be found in savannahs and that tigers look somewhat like zebras.

In just over four months, the network of 200 processors has identified 1,500 objects and 1,200 scenes and has connected the dots to make 2,500 associations.

Some of NEIL’s computer-gen-erated associations are wrong, such as “rhino can be a kind of antelope,” while some are odd, such as “actor can be found in jail cell” or “news anchor can look similar to Barack Obama.”

But Gupta said having a comput-er make its own associations is an entirely different type of challenge than programming a supercomputer to do one thing very well, or fast. For example, in 1985, Carnegie Mellon researchers programmed a computer to play chess; 12 years later, a computer beat world chess champion Garry Kasparov in a match.

intelligence expert at the Massachu-setts Institute of Technology, said humans constantly make decisions using “this huge body of unspoken assumptions,” while computers don’t. She said humans can also quickly respond to some questions that would take a computer longer to figure out.

“Could a giraffe fit in your car?” she asked. “We’d have an answer, even though we haven’t thought about it” in the sense of calculating the giraffe’s body mass.

Robert Sloan, an expert on artificial intelligence and head of the Department of Computer Sci-ence at the University of Illinois, Chicago, said the NEIL approach could yield interesting results be-cause just using language to teach a computer “has all sorts of problems unto itself.”

“What I would be especially im-pressed by is if they can consistently say ‘zebra, zebra, zebra’ if they see the animal in different locations,” Sloan said of the computers.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Florida — For months, all eyes in the sky have pointed at the comet that’s zooming toward a blisteringly close encounter with the sun. The moment of truth comes Thursday.

The sun-grazing Comet ISON, now thought to be less than a mile (1.6 kilometers) wide, will either fry and shatter, victim of the sun’s incredible power, or endure and quite possibly put on one fabulous celestial show.

Talk about an astronomical cliffhanger. Even the smartest sci-entists are reluctant to lay odds.

Should it survive, ISON, pronounced EYE’-sahn, would be vis-ible with the naked eye through December, at least from the North-ern Hemisphere. Discernible at times in November with ordinary binoculars and occasionally even just the naked eye, it already has dazzled observers and is considered the most scrutinized comet ever by NASA. But the best is, potentially, yet to come.

Detected just over a year ago, the comet is passing through the inner solar system for the first time. Still fresh, this comet is thought to bear the pristine matter of the beginning of our solar system.

It’s believed to be straight from the Oort cloud on the fringes of the solar system, home to countless icy bodies, most notably the frozen balls of dust and gas in orbit around the sun known as comets. For whatever reason, ISON was propelled out of this cloud and drawn toward the heart of the solar system by the sun’s intense gravitational pull.

The closer the comet gets to the sun, the faster it gets. In January, it was clocked at 40,000 mph (64,000 kph). By last Thursday, with just a week to go, it had accelerated to 150,000 mph (240,000 kph).

The chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Democrat Bob Menendez of New Jersey, says he is ready to work with colleagues on beefed up economic sanctions against Iran “should the talks falter or Iran fail to implement or breach the interim agreement.”

Arizona Sen. John McCain said he was “concerned this agreement could be a dangerous step that de-grades our pressure on the Iranian regime without demonstrable ac-tions on Iran’s part to end its pursuit of a nuclear weapons capability.”

The Republican said the situa-tion “would be reminiscent of our experience over two decades with North Korea” and it is essential to keep the pressure on Iran.

Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., who is a member of his party’s leadership, says he expects the deal

“makes it more likely that Demo-crats and Republicans will join to-gether and pass additional sanctions when we return in December.”

And Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., adds: “There is now an even more urgent need for Congress to increase sanctions until Iran com-pletely abandons its enrichment and reprocessing capabilities.”

The White House says imposing new sanctions now would under-mine international talks, but hasn’t issued a veto threat.

In an early Sunday morning announcement, Tehran agreed to pause its nuclear program for six months while diplomats lead talks aimed at preventing Iran from developing a nuclear weapon. While talks continue, international observers are set to monitor Iran’s nuclear sites.

But the announcement, after months of secret face-to-face talks between the United States and Iran, left many U.S. lawmakers deeply doubtful of the most significant agreement between Washington and Tehran in more than three decades of estrangement.

“Congress, I think, will want to make it clear that if Iran does not live up to these commitments, we will not only insist that the sanc-tions be reapplied, but we will have stronger sanctions against Iran,” said Sen. Ben Cardin, D-Md.

Distrust that Iran was negotiating in good faith was a common fear across political parties that are oth-erwise deeply divided. And ready-to-go sanctions seemed to have rare bipartisan support across both of Congress’ chambers. The House in July passed its latest round of sanc-tions against Iran with backing from both parties but the measure stalled in the Senate.

President Barack Obama pres-sured Senate leadership to hold off consideration of the measure while negotiators pursued an agreement. Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid of Nevada agreed but said his chamber would take up new sanc-tions in December, with or without an agreement with Iran.

MANILA, Philippines — Romnick Abadines’ heart pound-ed as a Philippine air force C-130 carried him above typhoon-wrecked Tacloban city. He had never been on a plane before, never watched silvery-white clouds pass from a small round window. It was not the first time, or the last, that he felt helpless and out of his element.

The frail, 31-year-old farmer lost his shanty to Typhoon Hai-yan, which flattened much of Tacloban in Leyte province as it killed more than 5,200 people. Now he lays idle in a tent shelter in suburban Manila, where he has no known relatives and little chance of finding more than me-nial and temporary work.

More than 12,000 people displaced by the massive Nov. 8 have made it to the capital. Most are with relatives; those with no family here are in shelters. Many have no idea how or where to rebuild their lives.

“What will happen to us when this kindness ends?” asked Mari-bel Villajos, a 37-year-old mother of three children who sat list-lessly with her husband on cots surrounded by bags of newly donated clothes, potato chips and instant coffee sachets at the same shelter where Abadines and his family were taken.

Villajos’ husband is a car-penter, but his tools were swept away along with their house in the tsunami-like storm surge that swept far into Tacloban and ruined much of the densely-populated coastal city.

Thousands of people from areas wrecked by Haiyan clam-bered aboard free C-130 mercy flights to Manila without any plan, in a desperate bid to escape the hunger, uncertainties and lingering stench of death back home. Others arrived here by bus, or fled to central Cebu province, which like the capital is regarded by rural poor Filipinos as a green-er pasture in this impoverished Southeast Asian nation of more than 96 million people.

They keep coming. In Ta-cloban, hundreds of survivors lined up Monday outside the city’s damaged airport, waiting for a flight out. Survivors will be ferried out “for as long as pos-sible,” said Eduardo del Rosario, who heads the government’s disaster-response agency.

Many typhoon survivors traveled to Manila to stay with relatives, but a few dozen fami-lies have no connections to the city and now live in one of about 10 emergency shelters run by the government and private groups.

The shelter the Abadines and Villajos families live in was set up in a sprawling grade school compound. It has eight portable toilets and three televisions tuned to South Korean soap operas and the Cartoon Network.

Jennifer Dawat, 13, passed the time by making crayon drawings of the family’s happier days in Leyte’s Ormoc city. One showed a girl flying a kite beside a box-like yellow house with a blue roof and a coconut tree, and a smiling yellow sun overhead. “That’s our house,” she said. “It’s gone.”

According to the officer, the identity of visitors and waitresses was complete and no drugs or weapons were found. The concrete trash can measuring 3x4 meters had been dis-mantled whereas it had just been functioned for a few months. As information from a number of residents met on Sunday (Nov 24), the trash can was built next to the office of Market Management Head by Jembrana Environment, Sanitation and Landscaping Agency (LHKP). When the project had been accomplished, the market was still operating because it had not been relocated. However, when the project was completed, it reaped a protest from local residents. Location of the trash can was considered inappropriate. In addition to being in front of the market, it also took the area of road body leading to Yehembang cemetery.

Even, the location was once taken advantage for booth of cof-fee sale because it had not been used for long time. At that time, the container had not come. Obviously, at this time the trash can had been dismantled and was no longer visible. Residents did not know whether it was kindled by the protest of residents or coincided with the rehabilitation of Yehembang Market, so the newly made trash can was dismantled.

Contractor performing the market rehabilitation admitted not to know who dismantled the trash can because it was located outside the building of the market whose renovation had been completed. Hundreds of Eastern European businessmen will vie for Chinese attention -- and money -- show-casing energy, transportation or agriculture projects lingering for lack of funds.

“Developing a partnership with Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) is a logical option for China, first of all because it gives it access to major sea ports such as Constanta (Romania) and Burgas (Bulgaria) as a safeway for its exports,” economic analyst Razvan Orasanu told AFP.

In the early 2000s, Chinese in-vestment in the region was almost inexistent. In 2010 it topped $800 million, according to the Warsaw-based Central and Eastern European Development Institute (CEED).

Two-way trade between China

and the region has also grown rapidly. While it amounted to $3.0 billion in 2000, it surpassed $41 bil-lion in 2010, with China registering a net surplus.

Following the eurozone cri-sis, the CEE countries with their “hybrid economies, somewhere between emerging and developed markets... appear as more dynamic places to put Chinese money into,” the CEED said.

Yet past experience in the region provides a measure of caution for those hoping for quick results.

In April 2012, Li’s predecessor Wen Jiabao told 16 CEE leaders attending a summit in Poland that China would commit a total of $10.5 billion in credit lines and funds to boost economic ties with the region.

But analysts say that 18 months later the promise of massive Chi-nese capital injections into the former communist bloc has yet to materialise. The China-CEE Invest-ment Cooperation Fund (ICF) has not made any headway and pros-pects are unclear.

Poland, China’s second-biggest partner in the region, has seen no major Chinese investment since the 2012 summit. Neither have the Baltic states, Slovakia or the Czech Republic.

LONDON - The Royal Bank of Scotland faced fresh damage to its reputation on Monday after the British government handed finan-cial watchdogs a report claiming it forced small firms to default in order to seize their assets.

Business Secretary Vince Cable confirmed on Sunday that he had given the report, written by Law-

rence Tomlinson from the Depart-ment for Business, Innovation and Skills, to the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and the Pruden-tial Regulation Authority (PRA).

The report, published Monday, has been compiled over the past six months and focuses on claims against the bank’s Global Restruc-turing Group (GRG), which deals with risky loans.

the state following its near collapse during the 2008 financial crisis -- an-nounced on November 1 it was to create an internal ‘bad bank’ to run down ’38 billion of high-risk assets as the government looks to return the rescued lender to the private sector.

The report alleges that the bank hit seemingly healthy businesses with unmanageable charges and rates before seized their assets at a knock-down price.

“From the cases I have heard, it is clear that a perception has arisen that the intention is to purposefully distress businesses to put them in GRG and subsequently take their assets...at a discounted price,” said the report’s author.

“There are many devastating stories of how RBS has wrecked good businesses and the ruinous impact this has on the lives of the business owners.

“I look forward to seeing how RBS proposes to take forward the forensic investigation into this part of the bank.” Cable called the al-legations “very serious”.

Thaksin has lived in self-imposed exile for the past five years to avoid a prison sen-tence on a corruption conviction.

The battle for power has some-times led to bloodshed on Bangkok’s streets. “Our demonstration will continue until we can get rid of the Thaksin re-gime,” Suthep told the crowd Sunday. Suthep accused Thaksin of abusing human rights, corruption and interfer-ing with government officials.

“We will tell the government of-ficials to stop serving the Thaksin regime and stand by the people’s side instead,” Suthep told The Associated Press. “We will also march to tell the media to report news with neutrality, without distortion, and not to serve the government. They must give people the truth.”

Chicago - A major winter storm that has dumped freezing rain and snow in the US southwest has killed at least 13 people in five states, US media reported.

WARSAW, Poland — U.N. climate talks were deadlocked Saturday as the U.S. and China clashed over what role the Chinese and other fast-growing economies should play in a new pact to fight global warming.

Disputes over climate aid for poor countries also overshadowed the War-saw conference as it stretched a full day beyond its scheduled end time.

The two-week talks were supposed to lay the foundation for a 2015 climate deal in Paris that countries have agreed should apply to them all. But after all-night talks, delegates struggled to agree on draft decisions outlining the way forward.

“These talks are on the brink of collapse,” said Alden Meyer, of the Union of Concerned Scientists, an observer of the talks.

In discussions over future commitments to rein in carbon emis-sions, China and India insisted on wording that would keep a firewall between rich and poor countries that the U.S. and other developed countries want to get rid of.

“The whole exercise is not aimed at creating a new climate regime,” Chinese negotiator Su Wei told a plenary session. U.S. climate envoy Todd Stern wondered whether that meant that China was no longer ready to put forth commitments for the new deal.

“I hope I’m wrong about what I heard, but it would certainly be disap-pointing to move backward in time not forward toward Paris,” Stern said. The plenary was suspended to give delegates a chance to work on new texts.

The U.N. climate talks were launched in 1992 after scientists warned that humans were warming the planet by pumping CO2 and other heat-trapping gases into the atmosphere, primarily through the burning of fossil fuels.

Countries made progress Friday on advancing a program to reduce deforestation in developing countries, an important source of emis-sions because trees absorb carbon dioxide.

Climate financing proved harder to agree on. Rich countries have promised to help developing nations make their economies greener and to adapt to rising sea levels, desertification and other climate impacts.

They have provided billions of dollars in climate financing in recent years, but have resisted calls to put down firm commitments on how they’re going to fulfill a pledge to scale up annual contributions to $100 billion by 2020.

JAKARTA - In making prep-arations for general elections, the registration process is one of the most difficult tasks, as data entry of eligible voters must be conducted transparently and accurately.

Voters lists are always a sen-sitive and crucial issue because if they are not accurate, they could trigger a suspicion of ma-nipulation, or depriving a citizen of his constitutional rights if his or her name is not on the list.

Indonesia plans to hold na-tional and provincial legisla-tive elections on April 9, 2014, which will be followed by the presidential election on July 9.

The national General Elec-tions Commission (KPU) has declared that the total number of eligible domestic voters for the general elections in 2014 is 186,612,255 people, con-sisting of 93,439,610 men and 93,172,645 women.

They will cast their votes at 545,778 voting stations in 81,034 villages in 6,980 sub-districts located in 497 districts and cities in the countrys 33 provinces. The total number of eligible Indonesian voters living

overseas is2,010,280. They are based in

130 countries, which will have 873 polling stations.

KPU Chairman Husni Kamil Manik noted that the KPU had considered all input before de-claring the Eligible Voters List (DPT) as complete. However, some 10.4 million voters on this list are considered “problematic” because they do not have citizen-ship identity numbers (NIKs).

To fix the errors, the Gen-eral Elections Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) allowed the national KPU to complete the rectifica-tion of 10.4 million problematic data entries for voters within 30 days from November 4.

In addition to the faulty 10.4 million data entries, however, the Gerindra Party has discovered that some 3,750,231 data entries for voters for the 2014 general elections include errors.

Chairman of Gerindras Cen-tral Executive Board in charge of Advocacy Habiburokhman said the data was collected from 17 districts and cities. The political party presented the findings to the Commission on November 19, for rectification and cross-checking.

Malik said the Commission is currently fixing data for eligible voters at the district and city level, and is also examining a report filed by the Gerindra Party on errors in the data for 3.7 million eligible voters.

“We are at present monitoring and cross-checking what has been done by the local KPU offices at the city and district level,” he said. To help resolve problems in the voters lists, the Home Affairs Ministry has deployed a special team to assist the KPU in repair-ing data entries.

“We are deploying a 50-member special team to various regions to help the General Elec-tion Commission (KPU) update data on problematic voters on the list,” Home Affairs Minister Gamawan Fauzi said recently.

In Jakarta, for instance, the capital citys KPU has so far managed to resolve around 29 thousand data entries for eligible voters holding invalid NIKs on the list of eligible voters.

The rectification was part of a process aimed at addressing faults in some 66 thousand data entries of voters, M Sidik, the Chairman of the working group for updating voters data at Jakartas KPU, said on November 20, 2013.

The Commission underwent a process of prior verification of the actual voters before fixing the data, Sidik pointed out.

Because the voters list is so important, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono chaired a consultation meeting on Novem-ber 13 to discuss the problem with chiefs of state institutions such as House Speaker Marzuki Alie, Chairman of the Peoples Consultative Assembly (MPR) Siddaharta Danusubroto, Chair-man of the State Audit Agency (BPK) Hadi Purnomo, Chairman of the Judicial Commission (MK) Suparman, Chairman of the Con-stitutional Court Hamdan Zoelva, and Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Af-fairs Djoko Suyanto.

Earlier, when visiting Band-ung, West Java, Marzuki Alie asked the KPU to work harder to end the confusion over the eligible voters list. “We ask the KPU to work harder to deal with the problem, so that it does not drag on,” the Speaker stated.

Double lists could be misused by some people in power in the regions, he warned. Several political parties have also ex-pressed concern about the voters list problem.

The Peoples Conscience (Ha-nura) party, for instance, has stated that it wanted to make sure the 2014 general election has fewer problems than seen in the last election.

The Gerindra (Greater In-donesia Movement) Party has warned that a faulty voter list could lead to cheating during the general elections.

“Whenever we have a general election, the Eligible Voter List (DPT) becomes problematic. The same is happening now be-cause of poor validation of the voter list for next years general elections. We had better watch out, because cheating could take place due to a faulty voter list,” Haris Bobihoe, Gerindras Dep-uty Secretary General, stated in Mamuju, West Sulawesi.

The voters list should be monitored closely because it has the the potential to be used for manipulating the general elec-tions, he added.

“We have instructed all leg-islative candidates of Gerin-dra, both in Jakarta and other regions, to closely monitor the DPT issues. The chaos during the general elections of 2009 was also due to a fault in the DPT,” Haris pointed out.

Mount Sinabung in North Suma-tra province unleashed fresh volca-nic ash and gravel as high as 5,000 meters (16,400 feet) and searing gas down its slope up to 2 kilometers (1.2 miles), said a government vol-canologist, Surono, who like many Indonesians uses one name.

The 2,600-meter (8,530-foot) -high mountain has sporadically erupted since September after being dormant for three years.

“We are in a situation of high alert due to the danger of searing gas,” Surono said, adding that au-thorities had urged people to stay at least 5 kilometers (3 miles) away from the crater.

About 12,300 evacuees from eight villages around the mountain were packed Sunday in crowded government camps away from the

fiery crater, while more than 6,000 others fled earlier to temporary shel-ters in 16 safe locations, said Na-tional Disaster Mitigation spokes-man Sutopo Purwo Nugroho.

Transportation Ministry spokes-man Bambang Ervan said airlines had been notified to avoid routes near the mountain.

The volcano’s last eruption, in August 2010, killed two people and forced 30,000 others to flee. It caught many scientists off guard because it had been quiet for four centuries.

LONDON - Arsenal’s path into the Champions League knockout rounds looks to be a safe one with a home game against rock bottom Olympique Marseille coming up on Tuesday but they are taking nothing for granted.

The Londoners top Group F with nine points from four matches, the same as second-placed Napoli and three more than Borussia Dortmund. Should Arsenal beat Marseille and Dortmund fail to defeat Napoli, Arsene Wenger’s side would be guaranteed to qualify with a game to spare.

Thaksin’s supporters and oppo-nents have battled for power since a 2006 military coup ousted the former prime minister, who was toppled fol-lowing street protests accusing him of corruption and disrespect for the country’s constitutional monarch, King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Thaksin has lived in self-imposed exile for the past five years to avoid a prison sen-tence on a corruption conviction.

The battle for power has some-times led to bloodshed on Bangkok’s streets. Most recently, about 90 people were killed in 2010 when Thaksin’s “Red Shirt” supporters occupied parts of central Bangkok for weeks before the government, led then by the cur-rent opposition, sent the military to crack down. The latest protests have ended two years of relative calm under Yingluck’s government.

Yingluck’s administration has struggled to contain the demonstra-tions, which initially started over opposition to a government-backed political amnesty bill that critics said was designed to bring Thaksin home

from exile. The Senate rejected the bill earlier this month in a bid to end the protests. But the rallies have gained momentum and leaders have now shifted their target to the more abstract goal of toppling the “Thaksin regime,” which is how protesters refer to Yingluck’s government.

“Our demonstration will continue until we can get rid of the Thaksin re-gime,” Suthep told the crowd Sunday. Suthep accused Thaksin of abusing human rights, corruption and interfer-ing with government officials.

“We will tell the government of-ficials to stop serving the Thaksin regime and stand by the people’s side instead,” Suthep told The Associated Press. “We will also march to tell the media to report news with neutrality, without distortion, and not to serve the government. They must give people the truth.”

Special peace-keeping command spokesman police Maj. Gen. Piya Uthayo said intelligence reports in-dicated that the protesters would also move to surround key Bangkok loca-tions, including the prime minister’s office and Parliament.

Chicago - A major winter storm that has dumped freezing rain and snow in the US southwest has killed at least 13 people in five states, US media reported.

The storm is expected to continue east over the next several days, just as tens of millions of travelers are expected to hit the road or take to the skies ahead of the US Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday.

Images from the storm-hit region showed thick layers of ice on sidewalks and icicles dripping off leaves.

The storm is forecast to bring substantial snow to the Appalachian mountains and New England, in the northeast, by Wednesday, which is one of the biggest US travel days of the year, according to meteorologists at Accuweather.com. Further south, heavy rain could also hinder both road and air travel, they said.

The American Automobile Association predicts more than 43 million people will be traveling over the holiday weekend, in which many visit far-flung family to share the Thanksgiving meal.

WARSAW, Poland — U.N. climate talks were deadlocked Saturday as the U.S. and China clashed over what role the Chinese and other fast-growing economies should play in a new pact to fight global warming.

Disputes over climate aid for poor countries also overshadowed the War-saw conference as it stretched a full day beyond its scheduled end time.

The two-week talks were supposed to lay the foundation for a 2015 climate deal in Paris that countries have agreed should apply to them all. But after all-night talks, delegates struggled to agree on draft decisions outlining the way forward.

“These talks are on the brink of collapse,” said Alden Meyer, of the Union of Concerned Scientists, an observer of the talks.

In discussions over future commitments to rein in carbon emis-sions, China and India insisted on wording that would keep a firewall between rich and poor countries that the U.S. and other developed countries want to get rid of.

“The whole exercise is not aimed at creating a new climate regime,” Chinese negotiator Su Wei told a plenary session. U.S. climate envoy Todd Stern wondered whether that meant that China was no longer ready to put forth commitments for the new deal.

“I hope I’m wrong about what I heard, but it would certainly be disap-pointing to move backward in time not forward toward Paris,” Stern said. The plenary was suspended to give delegates a chance to work on new texts.

The U.N. climate talks were launched in 1992 after scientists warned that humans were warming the planet by pumping CO2 and other heat-trapping gases into the atmosphere, primarily through the burning of fossil fuels.

Countries made progress Friday on advancing a program to reduce deforestation in developing countries, an important source of emis-sions because trees absorb carbon dioxide.

Climate financing proved harder to agree on. Rich countries have promised to help developing nations make their economies greener and to adapt to rising sea levels, desertification and other climate impacts.

They have provided billions of dollars in climate financing in recent years, but have resisted calls to put down firm commitments on how they’re going to fulfill a pledge to scale up annual contributions to $100 billion by 2020.

“There is absolutely nothing to write home about at the moment,” Fiji delegate Sai Navoti said, speaking on behalf of developing countries.

JAKARTA - In making prep-arations for general elections, the registration process is one of the most difficult tasks, as data entry of eligible voters must be conducted transparently and accurately.

Voters lists are always a sen-sitive and crucial issue because if they are not accurate, they could trigger a suspicion of ma-nipulation, or depriving a citizen of his constitutional rights if his or her name is not on the list.

Indonesia plans to hold na-tional and provincial legisla-tive elections on April 9, 2014, which will be followed by the presidential election on July 9.

The national General Elec-tions Commission (KPU) has declared that the total number of eligible domestic voters for the general elections in 2014 is 186,612,255 people, con-sisting of 93,439,610 men and 93,172,645 women.

They will cast their votes at 545,778 voting stations in 81,034 villages in 6,980 sub-districts located in 497 districts and cities in the countrys 33 provinces. The total number of eligible Indonesian voters living

overseas is2,010,280. They are based in

130 countries, which will have 873 polling stations.

KPU Chairman Husni Kamil Manik noted that the KPU had considered all input before de-claring the Eligible Voters List (DPT) as complete. However, some 10.4 million voters on this list are considered “problematic” because they do not have citizen-ship identity numbers (NIKs).

To fix the errors, the Gen-eral Elections Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) allowed the national KPU to complete the rectifica-tion of 10.4 million problematic data entries for voters within 30 days from November 4.

In addition to the faulty 10.4 million data entries, however, the Gerindra Party has discovered that some 3,750,231 data entries for voters for the 2014 general elections include errors.

Chairman of Gerindras Cen-tral Executive Board in charge of Advocacy Habiburokhman said the data was collected from 17 districts and cities. The political party presented the findings to the Commission on November 19, for rectification and cross-checking.

Malik said the Commission is currently fixing data for eligible voters at the district and city level, and is also examining a report filed by the Gerindra Party on errors in the data for 3.7 million eligible voters.

“We are at present monitoring and cross-checking what has been done by the local KPU offices at the city and district level,” he said. To help resolve problems in the voters lists, the Home Affairs Ministry has deployed a special team to assist the KPU in repair-ing data entries.

“We are deploying a 50-member special team to various regions to help the General Elec-tion Commission (KPU) update data on problematic voters on the list,” Home Affairs Minister Gamawan Fauzi said recently.

In Jakarta, for instance, the capital citys KPU has so far managed to resolve around 29 thousand data entries for eligible voters holding invalid NIKs on the list of eligible voters.

The rectification was part of a process aimed at addressing faults in some 66 thousand data entries of voters, M Sidik, the Chairman of the working group for updating voters data at Jakartas KPU, said on November 20, 2013.

The Commission underwent a process of prior verification of the actual voters before fixing the data, Sidik pointed out.

Because the voters list is so important, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono chaired a consultation meeting on Novem-ber 13 to discuss the problem with chiefs of state institutions such as House Speaker Marzuki Alie, Chairman of the Peoples Consultative Assembly (MPR) Siddaharta Danusubroto, Chair-man of the State Audit Agency (BPK) Hadi Purnomo, Chairman of the Judicial Commission (MK) Suparman, Chairman of the Con-stitutional Court Hamdan Zoelva, and Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Af-fairs Djoko Suyanto.

Earlier, when visiting Band-ung, West Java, Marzuki Alie asked the KPU to work harder to end the confusion over the eligible voters list. “We ask the KPU to work harder to deal with the problem, so that it does not drag on,” the Speaker stated.

Double lists could be misused by some people in power in the regions, he warned. Several political parties have also ex-pressed concern about the voters list problem.

The Peoples Conscience (Ha-nura) party, for instance, has stated that it wanted to make sure the 2014 general election has fewer problems than seen in the last election.

The Gerindra (Greater In-donesia Movement) Party has warned that a faulty voter list could lead to cheating during the general elections.

“Whenever we have a general election, the Eligible Voter List (DPT) becomes problematic. The same is happening now be-cause of poor validation of the voter list for next years general elections. We had better watch out, because cheating could take place due to a faulty voter list,” Haris Bobihoe, Gerindras Dep-uty Secretary General, stated in Mamuju, West Sulawesi.

The voters list should be monitored closely because it has the the potential to be used for manipulating the general elec-tions, he added.

“We have instructed all leg-islative candidates of Gerin-dra, both in Jakarta and other regions, to closely monitor the DPT issues. The chaos during the general elections of 2009 was also due to a fault in the DPT,” Haris pointed out.

Mount Sinabung in North Suma-tra province unleashed fresh volca-nic ash and gravel as high as 5,000 meters (16,400 feet) and searing gas down its slope up to 2 kilometers (1.2 miles), said a government vol-canologist, Surono, who like many Indonesians uses one name.

The 2,600-meter (8,530-foot) -high mountain has sporadically erupted since September after being dormant for three years.

“We are in a situation of high alert due to the danger of searing gas,” Surono said, adding that au-thorities had urged people to stay at least 5 kilometers (3 miles) away from the crater.

About 12,300 evacuees from eight villages around the mountain were packed Sunday in crowded government camps away from the

Two-way trade between China

and the region has also grown rapidly. While it amounted to $3.0 billion in 2000, it surpassed $41 bil-lion in 2010, with China registering a net surplus.

Following the eurozone cri-sis, the CEE countries with their “hybrid economies, somewhere between emerging and developed markets... appear as more dynamic places to put Chinese money into,” the CEED said.

Yet past experience in the region provides a measure of caution for those hoping for quick results.

In April 2012, Li’s predecessor Wen Jiabao told 16 CEE leaders attending a summit in Poland that China would commit a total of $10.5 billion in credit lines and funds to boost economic ties with the region.

But analysts say that 18 months later the promise of massive Chi-nese capital injections into the former communist bloc has yet to materialise. The China-CEE Invest-ment Cooperation Fund (ICF) has not made any headway and pros-pects are unclear.

Poland, China’s second-biggest partner in the region, has seen no major Chinese investment since the 2012 summit. Neither have the Baltic states, Slovakia or the Czech Republic.

LONDON - The Royal Bank of Scotland faced fresh damage to its reputation on Monday after the British government handed finan-cial watchdogs a report claiming it forced small firms to default in order to seize their assets.

Business Secretary Vince Cable confirmed on Sunday that he had given the report, written by Law-

rence Tomlinson from the Depart-ment for Business, Innovation and Skills, to the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and the Pruden-tial Regulation Authority (PRA).

The report, published Monday, has been compiled over the past six months and focuses on claims against the bank’s Global Restruc-turing Group (GRG), which deals with risky loans.

The chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Democrat Bob Menendez of New Jersey, says he is ready to work with colleagues on beefed up economic sanctions against Iran “should the talks falter or Iran fail to implement or breach the interim agreement.”

Arizona Sen. John McCain said he was “concerned this agreement could be a dangerous step that de-grades our pressure on the Iranian regime without demonstrable ac-tions on Iran’s part to end its pursuit of a nuclear weapons capability.”

The Republican said the situa-tion “would be reminiscent of our experience over two decades with North Korea” and it is essential to keep the pressure on Iran.

Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., who is a member of his party’s leadership, says he expects the deal

“makes it more likely that Demo-crats and Republicans will join to-gether and pass additional sanctions when we return in December.”

And Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., adds: “There is now an even more urgent need for Congress to increase sanctions until Iran com-pletely abandons its enrichment and reprocessing capabilities.”

The White House says imposing new sanctions now would under-mine international talks, but hasn’t issued a veto threat.

In an early Sunday morning announcement, Tehran agreed to pause its nuclear program for six months while diplomats lead talks aimed at preventing Iran from developing a nuclear weapon. While talks continue, international observers are set to monitor Iran’s nuclear sites.

But the announcement, after months of secret face-to-face talks between the United States and Iran, left many U.S. lawmakers deeply doubtful of the most significant agreement between Washington and Tehran in more than three decades of estrangement.

“Congress, I think, will want to make it clear that if Iran does not live up to these commitments, we will not only insist that the sanc-tions be reapplied, but we will have stronger sanctions against Iran,” said Sen. Ben Cardin, D-Md.

Distrust that Iran was negotiating in good faith was a common fear across political parties that are oth-erwise deeply divided. And ready-to-go sanctions seemed to have rare bipartisan support across both of Congress’ chambers. The House in July passed its latest round of sanc-tions against Iran with backing from both parties but the measure stalled in the Senate.

President Barack Obama pres-sured Senate leadership to hold off consideration of the measure while negotiators pursued an agreement. Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid of Nevada agreed but said his chamber would take up new sanc-tions in December, with or without an agreement with Iran.

MANILA, Philippines — Romnick Abadines’ heart pound-ed as a Philippine air force C-130 carried him above typhoon-wrecked Tacloban city. He had never been on a plane before, never watched silvery-white clouds pass from a small round window. It was not the first time, or the last, that he felt helpless and out of his element.

The frail, 31-year-old farmer lost his shanty to Typhoon Hai-yan, which flattened much of Tacloban in Leyte province as it killed more than 5,200 people. Now he lays idle in a tent shelter in suburban Manila, where he has no known relatives and little chance of finding more than me-nial and temporary work.

More than 12,000 people displaced by the massive Nov. 8 have made it to the capital. Most are with relatives; those with no family here are in shelters. Many have no idea how or where to rebuild their lives.

“What will happen to us when this kindness ends?” asked Mari-bel Villajos, a 37-year-old mother of three children who sat list-lessly with her husband on cots surrounded by bags of newly donated clothes, potato chips and instant coffee sachets at the same shelter where Abadines and his family were taken.

Villajos’ husband is a car-penter, but his tools were swept away along with their house in the tsunami-like storm surge that swept far into Tacloban and ruined much of the densely-populated coastal city.

Thousands of people from areas wrecked by Haiyan clam-bered aboard free C-130 mercy flights to Manila without any plan, in a desperate bid to escape the hunger, uncertainties and lingering stench of death back home. Others arrived here by bus, or fled to central Cebu province, which like the capital is regarded by rural poor Filipinos as a green-er pasture in this impoverished Southeast Asian nation of more than 96 million people.

They keep coming. In Ta-cloban, hundreds of survivors lined up Monday outside the city’s damaged airport, waiting for a flight out. Survivors will be ferried out “for as long as pos-sible,” said Eduardo del Rosario, who heads the government’s disaster-response agency.

Many typhoon survivors traveled to Manila to stay with relatives, but a few dozen fami-lies have no connections to the city and now live in one of about 10 emergency shelters run by the government and private groups.

The shelter the Abadines and Villajos families live in was set up in a sprawling grade school compound. It has eight portable toilets and three televisions tuned to South Korean soap operas and the Cartoon Network.

Jennifer Dawat, 13, passed the time by making crayon drawings of the family’s happier days in Leyte’s Ormoc city. One showed a girl flying a kite beside a box-like yellow house with a blue roof and a coconut tree, and a smiling yellow sun overhead. “That’s our house,” she said. “It’s gone.”

A number of nightclubs at Delod Berawah and Baluk were raid by the officers of Jembrana Police, Saturday night (Nov 23). Jembrana Police deployed officials in uniform and in mufti to search café visitors and waitresses. Targets of the op-eration at this time were personal identity and the presence of drugs and illegal drugs alleged to circulate in the nightclubs.

Similarly, Jembrana Police also involved a number of policewomen to search visitors and waitresses. Aside from nightclubs, police also examined inns in the tourist area of Delod Berawah. When raiding the location, the officers did not find any drugs. The opera-tion was then resumed to Er-Pico nightclub at Baluk. All waitresses were gathered and examined by policewomen. Meanwhile, the other officers in uniform and in mufti also raided visitors who were enjoying the strains of music on big screen and drink. According to the officer, the identity of visitors and waitresses was complete and no drugs or weapons were found. One of the sanitation supporting projects of the market in the Yehembang Market, Mendoyo, seems ineffective. Before six months of completion, the trash can established in October 2012 has been dismantled.

The concrete trash can measuring 3x4 meters had been dis-mantled whereas it had just been functioned for a few months. As information from a number of residents met on Sunday (Nov 24), the trash can was built next to the office of Market Management Head by Jembrana Environment, Sanitation and Landscaping Agency (LHKP). When the project had been accomplished, the market was still operating because it had not been relocated. However, when the project was completed, it reaped a protest from local residents. Location of the trash can was considered inappropriate. In addition to being in front of the market, it also took the area of road body leading to Yehembang cemetery.

Even, the location was once taken advantage for booth of cof-fee sale because it had not been used for long time. At that time, the container had not come. Obviously, at this time the trash can had been dismantled and was no longer visible. Residents did not know whether it was kindled by the protest of residents or coincided with the rehabilitation of Yehembang Market, so the newly made trash can was dismantled.

Contractor performing the market rehabilitation admitted not to know who dismantled the trash can because it was located outside the building of the market whose renovation had been completed. Meanwhile, the Head of Yehembang Market Manage-ment, I Komang Yudana, when asked by reporters admitted not to know who dismantled the trash can.

On the other hand, Spokesperson of Jembrana government, Suherman, when asked for his confirmation last Sunday also claimed not to know for sure about the demolition. According to him, it was the authority of the Environment, Sanitation and Landscaping Agency. The system at Carnegie Mellon University is called NEIL, short for Never Ending Image Learning. In mid-July, it began searching the Internet for images 24/7 and, in tiny steps, is deciding for itself how those images relate to each other. The goal is to recreate what we call common sense — the ability to learn things without being specifi-cally taught.

It’s a new approach in the quest to solve computing’s Holy Grail: getting a machine to think on its own using a form of common sense. The project is being funded by Google and the Department of De-fense’s Office of Naval Research.

“Any intelligent being needs to have common sense to make decisions,” said Abhinav Gupta, a professor in the Carnegie Mellon Robotics Institute.

NEIL uses advances in computer vision to analyze and identify the shapes and colors in pictures, but it is also slowly discovering connec-tions between objects on its own.

For example, the computers have figured out that zebras tend to be found in savannahs and that tigers look somewhat like zebras.

In just over four months, the network of 200 processors has identified 1,500 objects and 1,200 scenes and has connected the dots to make 2,500 associations.

Some of NEIL’s computer-gen-erated associations are wrong, such as “rhino can be a kind of antelope,” while some are odd, such as “actor can be found in jail cell” or “news anchor can look similar to Barack Obama.”

But Gupta said having a comput-er make its own associations is an entirely different type of challenge than programming a supercomputer to do one thing very well, or fast. For example, in 1985, Carnegie Mellon researchers programmed a computer to play chess; 12 years later, a computer beat world chess champion Garry Kasparov in a match.

Catherine Havasi, an artificial

intelligence expert at the Massachu-setts Institute of Technology, said humans constantly make decisions using “this huge body of unspoken assumptions,” while computers don’t. She said humans can also quickly respond to some questions that would take a computer longer to figure out.

“Could a giraffe fit in your car?” she asked. “We’d have an answer, even though we haven’t thought about it” in the sense of calculating the giraffe’s body mass.

Robert Sloan, an expert on artificial intelligence and head of the Department of Computer Sci-ence at the University of Illinois, Chicago, said the NEIL approach could yield interesting results be-cause just using language to teach a computer “has all sorts of problems unto itself.”

“What I would be especially im-pressed by is if they can consistently say ‘zebra, zebra, zebra’ if they see the animal in different locations,” Sloan said of the computers.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Florida — For months, all eyes in the sky have pointed at the comet that’s zooming toward a blisteringly close encounter with the sun. The moment of truth comes Thursday.

The sun-grazing Comet ISON, now thought to be less than a mile (1.6 kilometers) wide, will either fry and shatter, victim of the sun’s incredible power, or endure and quite possibly put on one fabulous celestial show.

Talk about an astronomical cliffhanger. Even the smartest sci-entists are reluctant to lay odds.

Should it survive, ISON, pronounced EYE’-sahn, would be vis-ible with the naked eye through December, at least from the North-ern Hemisphere. Discernible at times in November with ordinary binoculars and occasionally even just the naked eye, it already has dazzled observers and is considered the most scrutinized comet ever by NASA. But the best is, potentially, yet to come.

Detected just over a year ago, the comet is passing through the inner solar system for the first time. Still fresh, this comet is thought to bear the pristine matter of the beginning of our solar system.

It’s believed to be straight from the Oort cloud on the fringes of the solar system, home to countless icy bodies, most notably the frozen balls of dust and gas in orbit around the sun known as comets. For whatever reason, ISON was propelled out of this cloud and drawn toward the heart of the solar system by the sun’s intense gravitational pull.

The closer the comet gets to the sun, the faster it gets. In January, it was clocked at 40,000 mph (64,000 kph). By last Thursday, with just a week to go, it had accelerated to 150,000 mph (240,000 kph).

According to Sarjana, his party remained to urge in order the Vishnu Murti statue could be built again at the 4-way intersection of Kediri. Instead, he would agree if the Bung Karno was moved. Moreover, based on the ini-tial plan the Bung Karno statue would be built at the 4-way intersection of Gubug, Tabanan.

Sarjana added that relocation of the Vishnu Murti statue could not be done unilaterally. Moreover, if it will be moved it can possibly trigger a new problem,” he protested again.

Then, Sarjana said the budget to be spent would not be small. In other words, it would be better to build the statue again at the same location and improve it.

Sarjana hoped the polemics related to the Vishnu Murti statue could be terminated immediately. The solution was that the county government built another Vishnu Murti statue at its original location. “Essentially, the Vishnu Murti statue is built again in Kediri, do not move it,” he said. He also questioned about the reason for the relocation of the Vishnu Murti statue. Moreover, there was a discourse if the statue would be moved to ??Bedugul or Tanah Lot.

Polemic on the Bung Karno statue came to view after the Tabanan govern-ment dismantled the Vishnu Murti statue at the 4-way intersection in Kediri last June. The Hindu Dharma Council of Indonesia (PHDI) of Bali Chapter had issued a warning to the Regent of Tabanan, including the Ombudsman institution. Even, the Archaeological Institute of Denpasar also voiced about the matter. They questioned about the reason of demolishing the Vishnu Murti statue and replacing it with the Bung Karno statue. EvEry Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc.

The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is con-sidered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion.

The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines.

In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbul-umbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

happen in South Kuta, Badung. At this time, it happened to the Sinaran Surga Luxury Vil-las at Ungasan, South Kuta, where the burglar took action on Saturday (Nov 23). As a result, three local guests at the luxury villa lost their cash and valuables worth IDR 75 mil-lion. The victims consisted of Surunudin, Adi Jaya Putra and Aksan Jaya Putra.

Based on police records, Surunudin suffered a loss worth IDR 17 million in cash, Seiko watch and Nokia mobile phone. Meanwhile, Adi Jaya Putra lost his cash worth IDR 1.5 million and diamond ruby ring. Then, Aksan Jaya Putra in his report claimed to lose cash worth IDR 2 million, Guess watch and perfume. “The total losses valued at IDR 75 mil-lion,” explained a source in

police station.Further, he said the incident

had been reported by the villa security guard named Wayan Wida, 35, on Saturday morn-ing around 5:30 a.m. Security guard of the villa reported the villa break-in action because three occupants of the villa claimed to have lost their money and valuables. “The se-curity guard reported that three guests lost their money and valuables,” the officer said.

On receiving the report, the officers of Criminal Detective Section of Denpasar Metro Police and South Kuta Police conducted an investigation. From the results of examina-tion at the scene, the culprit was alleged to enter into the villa by skipping the bathroom wall. When the victims were sleep soundly, the culprit could steal their possessions at ease. “Allegedly, the culprit came

in from the bathroom wall and amounted to more than one person,” he explained.

Police were still investi-gating the crime scene and conducted the examination of witnesses. Noted, several witnesses had been examined including the villa security guards, villa staff as well as the victims. “Allegedly, the break-in of villa was committed by a specialist. However, is still under investigation. Hopefully, it can be quickly revealed,” the source explained.

Meanwhile, Chief of South Kuta Police, I Wayan Nuriata, when asked for his confirma-tion related to the incident on Sunday (Nov 24) said his party had not received any reports related to the burglary at Si-naran Surga Luxury Villas. “I have not received the report, but I will check it first,” he said. In his speech President Yudhoyono said, “The WFC is needed to complete various other forums that have been in existence in the world, such as the World Economic Forum in Davos and the World Social Forum in Brazil. So far we have not had a culture forum.”

He further stated that the WCF was aimed at establish-ing a common framework for discussion at the local, as well as international levels.

The President said the forum would also contribute to achiev-ing development goals.

“The forum will discuss thor-oughly how culture can help promote sustainable develop-ment,” he said.

The first WCF, which started on Nov. 24 and will conclude on Nov. 27, was first initiated in 2005, but it is only this year that it could it be realized, Education and Culture Minister Moham-mad Nuh said.

Nuh added that a culture forum was needed because without culture there would be no future.

Meanwhile, President Yud-hoyono said that culture af-fected all aspects of life includ-ing a countrys development process.

“Culture is an important com-ponent in human development, as well as in the post-2015 de-velopment agenda,” he said.

He also noted that culture was also key to the success of sustainable development.

“At academic levels, I have seen a lot of people studying culture and economic devel-opment. To us this forum will give an opportunity to discuss how culture can promote sus-tainable development,” he said.

The WFC is being attended by representatives from 40 countries, who will participate in discussions, seminars and dialogue among different cul-

tures. It is hoped that the WFC will help produce a new policy direction that makes cultures a part of sustainable develop-ment and helps formulate an ethics framework to ensure the involvement of communi-ties and stake holders in the development.

The event is expected to produce a draft framework that will guarantee sustainable cul-tural development and to give inputs for the discussion of the post-2015 Millennium Devel-opment Goals programs.

Among the key speak-ers on the first day of the event were the United Na-tions Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Director General Irina Bokova, who delivered a speech through a teleconfer-ence, Noble Prize laureate for Economics Amartya Sen, Time Magazine Editor Fareed Za-karia and Education Minister Muhammad Nuh.

Mangupura (Bali Post)—Kedonganan Pier project could not be completed on time. The project originally

targeted for completion on November 30, 2013, in fact remains to leave a lot of works. To that end, the partner was given extra time until December 14, 2013 to complete its obligation.

The Head of Badung Livestock, Fisheries and Maritime Affairs, Made Badra, when asked for his confirmation on Sunday (Nov 24) admitted if the pier project could not be completed as per initial target. Nevertheless, he denied if the project was said to be delayed. Badra argued there were a number of factors, particularly in the form of additional physical works that made the project unable to be com-pleted as per the initial contract agreement.

He explained that pursuant to the demand of the Chief of Kedonganan custom-ary village and local fishermen, the remaining budget after the pier tender project amounting to approximately IDR 669 million would be used for the installation of paving block in the fish market courtyard heading for the dock area of 1,700 square meters. Some of the fund was also used for the procurement of power supply in the ice factory denoting the assistance from Directorate General of Processing and Marketing of Fishery Products (P2HP), Ministry of Maritime Affairs. Such additional works had caused the addition of second addendum and it finally af-fected the time of project implementation.

In addition, the weather factor and implementation of the APEC conference 2013 were also mentioned to have an impact on the project works. Due to big waves, the wooden buffers were broken so the dock casting process was inter-rupted. Likewise, the vessel berth should wait for the water to recede. During the implementation of APEC, the workers could not work for 10 days.

Based on the results of evaluation made by Directorate General II of the Min-istry of Maritime Affairs, the partner in this case PT Suramadu was finally given additional time for 14 days from the initial contract so the completion date became on December 14, 2013. This deadline had been included in the addendum III.

Meanwhile, based on field observation at the project site on last Sunday after-noon, the workers were still busy working on the causeway and construction of the building. Until Sunday, the work on the concrete causeway along 104 meters was still being accelerated. Besides, the trucks transporting materials also looked to come and go at the location. One unit of heavy equipment seemed to be parked on the edge of the beach. Meanwhile, the installation of the paving block around the fish market to the dock had not been doing yet. Kramer said she tried for eight years to get a television network interested in a story drawn from her registry of people trying to connect with other donor fami-lies before MTV showed interest.

“We know that our audience is inter-ested in stories relating to family, and this is definitely a unique and fresh take that really makes you think about what a family is,” said Marshall Eisen, series executive producer.

Kramer admitted to some trepida-tion — “We didn’t want to make a reality show, ‘Donor Kids Gone Bad,’” she said — but is pleased with how it turned out.

Speicher’s nose ring and adeptness with video selfies make her a natural MTV personality and easily relatable for the audience. Eisen’s original interest was in half siblings finding each other, but Speicher’s desire to find her donor adds a richness and level of complexity to the story.

MANILA, Philippines — Grammy-winning singer Alicia Keys visited a Philippine air force base Monday to bring cheer to hundreds of evacuees from eastern provinces wracked by Typhoon Haiyan.

The American singer distributed cray-ons and coloring books to children at the Villamor Air Base grandstand, where evacuees from eastern Leyte and Samar provinces arrive via C-130 planes.

Social Welfare Department officer Jane Abello says Keys stayed for about half an hour to chat with evacuees. The R&B star was in Manila for a concert Monday at the seaside MOA Arena.

The Philippine Star earlier quoted her

as saying that “music has a way of lifting your spirit and that’s what I hope to do for the Filipino people.”

Keys tweeted three days after the Nov. 8 typhoon: “To the people of the Philippines my heart is with you.” She also encouraged fans around the world to donate to the typhoon victims.

But it was left to Cyrus -- closely watched ever since her twerking turn at the MTV Video Music Awards -- to end the show in suit-ably twitter-storming style, in a cat-covered bikini and with a giant orange and white kitten singing along behind her.

“New Drinking Game: take a shot for every tweet on ur timeline about miley and her cat... First one dead wins,” quipped @DrewwMu-sic on Twitter.
