BANGKOK - Thai Prime Minister Ying-luck Shinawatra, grappling with a devastat-ing flood crisis, was admitted to hospital on Tuesday with food poisoning, according to the government.

“She is in Praram 9 Hospital because she is suffering from diarrhoea due to food poisoning,” government spokeswoman

Titima Chaisang told reporters, adding that Yingluck had asked her deputy to chair a cabinet meeting in her place.

The 44-year-old leader, the younger sister of fugitive ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra, was a political novice before taking office in August and has struggled to get a grip on Thailand’s worst floods in half a century.

The Dean of Faculty of Economics, Warmadewa University (Unwar), I Wayan Arjana, stated that government should introspect to see the condi-tion because implementation of the guidelines of Bali development in the field had deviated from what had been agreed. For instance, violations of green belt, radius annexation of temple sanctity and coastal borderline were

closely associated with policies issued by government.

“Government should make introspec-tion to see the development conditions in Bali. I believe investors will never dare to break the laws if no government officer personally intervenes by giving the opportunity through negotiations,” said Wayan Arjana.

Mangupura (Bali Post) –Indonesia Government is targeting to increase raw palm oil production

to 40 Million tonnes by 2020 as Head of Threat Mitigation Initiative De-partment Sawit Watch, Norman Jiwa, stated, which 50 percent of it will be used for vegetable oil. “Besides economy side giving huge income, it also a potential to be an alternative to petrol which is biodiesel or vegetable oil,” Norman stated during HAM and Business Conference at Kuta last Monday (28/11).

Norman explained the high income as seen at 2010 around IDR 12 trillion will increase modal owners to get involve. Also Indonesia workers wages plus Indonesia’s lands are also cheaper compared to other countries. Yet it was stated this will cause a spreading or land expansion on palm plantation in the whole nation as note at 2011 around one million hectare of land have been added for palm plantation in 17 Indonesia’s Provinces. “This will threat

A number of hills in Klung-kung Regency are indeed prone to be dredged. Some of them are the hills in the southern of Dawan Village, the hill at Paksebali and Pundukdawa. Averagely the dredg-ing takes place without permis-sion and reaps protest from local residents. It then drives the public

down for taking action. However, the halt can only last temporarily.

on the hill of Pundukdawa does not have license, either. Besides, it is hazardous because it potentially results in landslides and hoards the road body,” said Nengah Dwija Wibawa, a resident of Pundukdawa Hamlet.

He said the dredging had been going on since Monday morning (Nov 28) at two locations employ-ing two heavy equipments. One location was located right on the edge of the road leading to the Pundukdawa Hamlet, Pesingga-han. Another location was situated

rather far from roadside, about 100 meters. “Formerly, the hill was reforested with some trees by the youth of Pundukdawa. Some of the trees planted consist of gliricidia, neem, leucaena and others. It will be a pity if now the green hill is sud-denly dredged. Moreover, the activ-ity is not completed with license,” added Dwija Wibawa.

Meanwhile, the land owner, Gede Arya, acknowledged if the dredging taking place on the hills of his land had been taking place since last Monday had no license. However, he admitted to have informed the Headman of Pesinggahan. “I was indeed advised by the Headman to report to the Klungkung Environment Agency,” said Arya.

The dredging was carried out on the area of 1,500 square meters and intended to re-arrange the land on the hill to be used for terraced farmland. To that end, Arya then made cooperation with the owner of heavy equipment through ex-

change system. In other words, Arya did not pay for the dredging services as requested, while the owner of heavy equipment got compensation to sell the soil ob-tained from the dredging activities. “I decided to use heavy equipment rather than manual dredging because of my previous experience. With a dredging area (the making of ter-race) of 400 square meters, I should pay the dredging service for IDR 10 million. Conversely, if working with the owner of heavy equipment, I should pay nothing,” he said.

Moreover, the dredging was carried out just for the arrange-ment. He would not let the hill look in tatters like the dredging at several other locations. “I want to change my land to be more economically valuable so that it will turn productive and I do not pay taxes in vain,” he said. Gede Arya claimed the dredging activity on his land was discon-tinued by Satpol PP because it had no license.”

Singaraja (Bali Post) –Buleleng Village residents last Monday (28/11) were busy in preparing

their mass cremation ceremony (Ngaben) at Puri Seni Sasana Budaya, Veteran Street, Singaraja. Negara (Bali Post) –A simple building built at Satria Area, Kelurahan Pendem last Mon-

day (28/11) early morning was totally burnt out. Locals are still unsure what have caused the furniture reparation shop owned by Nurhuda (45) gone to ashes along with a number of sewing equipments, materials and serviced furniture as no electricity is used there and owner doesn’t live there.

Nurhuda who lives at Pendem Area just knew his place was burnt out

home the shop was still in one piece. The loss is predicted to be up to IDR 20 million. The land is stated to be a rented land and before it was a place for unused items. Owner is suspicious that his place was purposely burnt as a number of equipments made from iron like drill, sewing machine’s machine and furniture iron materials couldn’t be found between the ruins. Head of Jembrana Police Criminal Research, APC Ketut Suparta, admitted

place was being robbed before it was burnt.

Tabanan (Bali Post)—Farmers at Subak Empas Bua-

han, Buahan Village, Tabanan, were getting confused. They were

attacked by weeds. Sadly, it hap-pened when farmers planted therice seeds given by government. At

The weeds had attack the plantssince they bore fruits. As theweeds were raging, the rice plantsultimately lost in the ‘competi-

We do notknow why the rice is unable towithstand the weeds,” said Chiefof Subak Empas Buahan, WayanTantra, Monday (Nov 28). Theseeds belonged to sembada hybridvariety was provided free of chargeto farmers three months ago.

According to Tantra, the farmerswere originally eager to receivethe seeds. Even, he himself par-ticipated to plant the variety atthe area of 5,000 square meters.Farmers began to complain when

the rice grew up. In keeping withthe growth, the weeds were pro-gressively raging. “We are alsosurprised, it’s for the first time

he said. The farmland attacked bythe weeds was located sporadi-cally. The most severe conditionshappened at the corner of the vil-lage street. Two plots of paddyland had been run out due to theattack. Tantra added that farmers’harvest declined sharply becauseof the weeds. Even, some farmersexperienced total harvest failure.Because of the weeds, the yieldwas only 40 kg per 100 squaremeters, while in normal conditionfarmers could usually harvest upto 65 kg per 100 square meters.“My farmland is also affected bythe weeds,” he said. Farmers couldonly submit to their fate and hadreported the case to the TabananAgriculture Agency.

In fact, not all local farmerswere willing to plant the rice seedgiven by the central government. One of the farmers, Wayan Mu-grek, admitted that his farmlandcould survive from the weed attackbecause he refused to plant such aseed. “I deliberately refused forfear of crop failure. In fact, it iscorrect the seeds given were at-tacked by weeds,” he said. The

former subak chief added thatfarmland area in his subak territoryreached 147 hectares. The amounthad reduced from 154 hectares.

The historic election — which promises to be the fairest and clean-est in Egypt in living memory — will show whether the country that is one of America’s most important Middle East allies will remain secular or move down a more Islamic path as have other nations swept up in the Arab Spring.

The turnout Monday, the first vot-ing day, was massive despite security concerns and turmoil over a deadly spate of violence in the week before the balloting. It reflects the Egyptians’

determination to break away from the past after 10 months of frustra-tion over how the military rulers who took over from Mubarak have been handling the transition.

“I am voting for this country’s sake. We want a new beginning,” said Zeinab Saad, 50, who brought her young daughter to a polling station in Cairo. “Its a great thing to feel like your vote matters.”

The voting process, long and com-plicated, is staggered over the next six weeks across 27 provinces, divided into thirds with runoffs held a week after the first round in each location. Voters have to pick two individuals and one alliance or party slate — a mechanics that has left many among the 50 million eligible voters puzzled

and apparently still undecided. While the overwhelming majority

spoke with excitement over getting to cast their ballot, a few headed to the polls to avoid a 500 Egyptian pounds ($85) fee imposed by the ruling military on absent voters. In some of the coun-try’s populous districts, younger voters dragged their elders to make sure they would not have to pay the fine.

“I am voting here just because of the 500 Egyptian pounds,” said Walaa Mohammed, a 33-year-old office employee, adding she didn’t think the lines outside polling stations would not be so long if it were not for the fine.

In the Menshiya neighborhood in the Mediterranean city of Alexandria, long separate lines of men and women waited patiently in front of polling stations, where the ground was lit-tered with Muslim Brotherhood fliers as activists campaigned into the last minute, whispering to voters to pick their candidates.

Prince Harry has flown home after a nearly two month military training mission in California, which also saw the fun-loving royal let his hair down in San Diego and Las Vegas.

The 27-year-old returned to Britain on Sunday from the Naval Air Facility in El Centro in southern California, where he ar-rived in early October to learn to fly Apache helicopter gunships in terrain similar to Afghanistan.

“He completed his training and he was sent back to the UK yester-day,” a base spokesman told AFP, declining to give further details but adding that Britain’s de-fense ministry would release a statement.

Harry, the third in line to the throne, returns to Britain a fully fledged Apache pilot, but British officials have declined to speculate on whether he might be allowed to return to Afghanistan.

The prince -- or Cap-tain Wales in his military role -- has made it clear he is determined to serve again in Afghanistan, where his deployment as a soldier in 2007-2008 had to be hastily cut short

after a media blackout was breached.Harry wasted no time getting into the spirit

of things on the first weekend of his stay in California. Within hours of his arrival he was spotted in a pub and watching rugby in a downtown hotel in San Diego, about two hours away from the base in El Centro where he was stationed.

He also spent a long weekend in Las Vegas earlier this month, arriving on a rented Harley Davidson and spending three nights partying, including with a mystery blonde woman, ac-cording to local reports.

KINSHASA - Deadly violence, arson and widespread voter confusion marred Democratic Republic of Congo’s second post-war election on Monday, raising concerns of a protracted dispute over the outcome.

Masked gunmen attacked a polling station in the southern mining province of Katanga before three of them were killed by secu-rity forces, and locals burned down three polling stations in the neighboring opposi-tion heartland of West Kasai. Many voters trekked between voting stations confused over where to cast their ballots, and scuffles broke out over shortages of voting materials and allegations of fraud.

“I voted. I left at 7 in the morning. I have been to five schools,” said Bercam Nzangi, a Kinshasa resident. “I was able to do this

but what about those mammas who can’t read and write or don’t have transport. This is organized chaos.” Election commission official Matthieu Mpita told reporters polling stations would remain open as long as it takes to complete voting, describing operations so far as “satisfactory.” Election workers began counting at some stations by nightfall.

Congo’s election, pitting incumbent President Joseph Kabila against main chal-lenger Etienne Tshisekedi and nine other rivals, is meant to gauge progress since a 1998-2003 war that killed more than five million people.

But concerns are mounting that a chaotic poll will pave the way for dispute between Kabila and Tshisekedi over the eventual results.

A contested election in Ivory Coast, in West Africa, rekindled a civil war there earlier this year.

When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Clima-tology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has predicted that heavy rains will fall in Jakarta during the next one week starting Tuesday.

Four areas that would be flooded on Tuesday were Kalideres, Cengkareng, Kembangan and Penjaringan, it said.

Head of the BMKG`s Information Service Hari Tirto said the agency had is-sued a notification about the flood-prone areas in the capital and potential rains on Tuesday (Nov 29).

JAKARTA - The Jakarta Met-ropolitan Police will deploy 2,819 personnel to ensure security during a friendly match between the U-23 national team and LA Galaxy on Wednesday (Nov 30).

“Police officers will check every spectator`s belongings,” operations chief Senior Commissioner Agung Budi Maryoto said here on Monday.

He said he would station 15 police personnel in addition to five person-nel from the committee at every en-trance gate.He said the police would also send personnel to secure the teams and also to control traffic.

He said however that the Jakarta police would not provide secu-rity personnel to guard LA Galaxy players including David Beckham because they have carried their own security guards.

“The organizing committee may ask for a special security (for them) but so far no request has made to

us,” he said.Agung said he hoped the commit-

tee would be transparent in selling tickets to prevent possible chaos in the stadium. He said the organizing committee must inform the police about the number of tickets to be sold and the time of ticket sales in each counter so that the police could monitor to assure security.

The committee predicts the number of spectators may reach 40,000 but the police have urged the committee to also provide some large screen tvs outside the stadium in case more people would come to see the match and the stadium could not accomodate them all.

The police and the commit-tee had coordinated to prevent distribution of fake tickets. The Indonesian national joint team of under-23 years old and senior players would meet LA Galaxy led by David Beckham in a friendly match at the Bung Karno Stadium on Wednesday.

JAKARTA - Indonesian banks will be quite able to withstand the impact of the financial crisis in Europe and the United States because of their good performance, a central bank official said.

“The European financial crisis will not affect the performance of national banks. In liquidity terms, national banks` liquidity exposure to European and United States banks amounts to only about Rp100 trillion which is not too big compared with their overall assets,” Bank Indonesia (BI/central bank)`s Deputy Governor Muliaman D Hadad said here on Monday.

He said that the results of a stress test carried out by BI showed that the impact of the finan-cial crisis in Europe and the United States on national banks was very small. After all, banks`

assets, capital and credit commitment were still running well.

“We have carries out a test to see what will happen if the crisis spreads to all European countries. It turned out the impact on national banks` capital will be small,” he said.

However, he said, Indonesia had to remain alert to the crisis` psychological aspect because if it dragged on , it could affect national eco-nomic growth.

Muliaman said that what needed to be moni-tored was the condition of individual banks if they experienced internal problems when the global economic crisis had not yet improved like nowadays.

“We have to systematically monitor banks one by one to ensure assure that it would not create a problem for the industry,” he said.

Presenter Tilda Swinton introduced the nominees, but before opening the envelope, deferred to a prerecorded message on the venue’s large video screens. The unprec-edented ruling was then announced by jury member Natalie Portman who explained her peers were faced with the extraordinary dilemma of being “stuck” when it came to selecting a winner, so they “made a bold and independent decision” and “chose to honor both.” Swinton then read off the winner’s names live, and presented the award.

“The Tree of Life” starred Brad Pitt and Sean Penn, and also won the Palm d’Or at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival. “Beginners” was released last year and stars Ewan McGregor and Christopher Plummer.

Some of the evening’s other winners included Felicity Jones for Breakthrough Actor in “Like Crazy”; the cast of “Begin-ners” for Ensemble Cast; and “Scenes of a Crime” won for Best Film Not Playing at a Theater Near You. The Audience Award went

to “Girlfriend,” a film about a young man with Down syndrome who has a crush on a troubled single mother.

Hosted by Edie Falco and Oliver Platt, the presenters were mostly darlings of the independent film world like Stanley Tucci, Melisa Leo, and actress, directorial nominee Vera Famiga, and Swinton. “Independent film is my amniotic fluid. It’s like the sea I swim in,” Swinton said when she arrived.

This year’s Gotham Tributes went to direc-tor David Cronenberg; film executive Tom Rothman, actor Gary Oldman, and actress Charlize Theron. Actor-comedian Patton Oswalt introduced Theron, and then made self-deprecating jokes while standing stood next to her at the podium. “I’m only here because I’m armpit height,” the much shorter Oswalt said. Later he said: “I feel like you’re accepting me for the award.”

“The irony is that you are the award,” Theron joked. The pair star in the upcom-ing dark comedy “Young Adult,” written by

Diablo Cody and directed by Jason Reitman. Theron called Reitman “one the best directors” she ever worked with, and her mother, who was sitting next to him, “for giving me the character and the strength to be who I am.”

Before the ceremony, Theron said the best award she ever got was that she “never had to get a second job to pay the bills.” The Gotham Independent Film Awards are presented by the Independent Feature Project, the largest organization in the United States committed to indepen-dent film. This year’s ceremony was sponsored by Euphoria Calvin Klein, RBC, The New York Times, Russian Standard Vodka, and others.

Since its inception in 1991, Gotham Independent Film Awards has honored many Oscar-nominated films, including the 2008 winner for best Picture, “The Hurt Locker.” Next week, nominees for the Film Independent Spirit Wards will be announced in Los Angeles.

LONDON — She was just 13 when Rupert Mur-doch asked her to sing at his wedding. Charlotte Church was given a choice: a 100,000 pound fee, or a chance to generate good will with the media magnate by performing for free. She wanted the cash, but her record company and manager said no, it was better to make friends with Murdoch, head of a global news and entertainment empire.

“Despite my teenage business head screaming ‘Think how many tamagotchies you could buy!’ I was pressured into taking the latter option,” she told Britain’s press ethics committee. “This strategy failed ... for me.” Church, 25, told Britain’s media ethics inquiry Monday that the Murdoch press, and other British tabloids, had ruthlessly tormented her since she was a child singing sensation, blowing her credibility “to bits” and badly damaging her career.

She said press intrusion had a devastating impact on her family life and particularly on her mother. Church said her mother had tried to kill herself in part because she knew a newspaper was planning to expose her husband’s extramarital affair.

The former teenage singing sensation told the in-quiry in calm, measured tones how cameramen tried to take photos up her skirt and down her blouse and published “intimate” details about her sex life when she was just 17. “I couldn’t get my head around that,” said Church, 25, who blamed tabloid phone hacking for much of her lost privacy.

“I’ve been made a caricature for so long, and this person portrayed in the tabloids really isn’t me,” she said. “It’s not the person I am, and it’s had a massive impact on my career.

LONDON - “Harry Potter” star Daniel Radcliffe on Tuesday topped a Heat Magazine list of the richest, young British entertainers, retaining his No. 1 position in the ranking of people under 30-years-old.

Robert Pattinson, lead actor of the rival fantasy film franchise “Twilight,” moved up to third from fifth and leapfrogged two of Radcliffe’s Potter co-stars, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, according to the celebrity magazine.

Actress Keira Knightley, who starred in several of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movies, remained second on the chart, while singer Adele was the highest new entry at 16.

Radcliffe, 22, who played the boy wizard in the movie adaptations of J.K. Rowling’s bestselling novels, earned 51.8 million pounds ($80 million) over his career, according to Heat estimates. The actor’s earnings for 2011 were 6.1 million pounds higher than in 2010.

Knightley’s earnings totaled 30.9 million pounds ($47.8 million, ahead of Pattinson on

24.9 million ($38.5 million), Watson on 23.9 million and Grint on 21.7 million. Adele, whose second album “21” is set to be the biggest selling album in the world this year, entered the list at No. 16 with a fortune of 7.7 million pounds.

Three stars dropped out of this year’s list -- opera star Katherine Jenkins and model Kelly Brook both exceeded the 30-year-old threshhold and singer Amy Winehouse, ranked 15th last year, died in July.

Last month, the most populous US state, California, approved rules for a carbon market that would start in 2013, with the goal of cutting emissions to 1990 levels by 2020. Previous attempts to cre-ate a cap and trade system to stem pollution at the federal level have failed due to concerns it would cause skyrocketing energy costs, a particularly bruising prospect in an already wobbly economy.

Also in October, a prominent climate skeptic whose research was funded in part by the conservative billionaire Koch brothers’ founda-tion announced he had found that mainstream projections of climate change were correct and unbiased.

“We confirm that over the last 50 years, temperature has risen 0.9 degrees Celsius, or 1.6 degrees Fahrenheit. This is the same number that the IPCC (UN Intergovernmen-

tal Panel on Climate Change) says,” physicist Richard Muller, director of the Berkeley Earth Surface Tem-perature Project, told lawmakers.

Muller said he hoped other climate skeptics would agree with his work, but his newfound stance -- accepted by the vast majority of scientists -- remains rogue, particu-larly among Republicans seeking to replace President Barack Obama in 2012. Standout Republican Jon Huntsman -- who ranks lowest in the polls -- may have summed up the differences best when he tweeted earlier this year: “To be clear, I believe in evolution and trust scientists on global warming. Call me crazy.”

LOS ANGELES — Harvard scientists have built a new type of flexible robot that is limber enough to wiggle and worm through tight spaces. It’s the latest prototype in the growing field of soft-bodied ro-bots. Researchers are increasingly drawing inspiration from nature to create machines that are more bendable and versatile than those made of metal.

The Harvard team, led by chemist George M. Whitesides, borrowed from squids, starfish and other animals without hard skeletons to fashion a small, four-legged rubber robot that calls to mind the clay animation character Gumby. In recent years, scientists have been tinkering with squishy — sometimes odd-looking — robots designed to squeeze through hard-to-reach cracks after a disaster like an earthquake or navigate rough terrain in the battlefield.

“The unique ability for soft robots to deform allows them to go places that traditional rigid-body robots cannot,” Matthew Walter, a roboticist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, said in an email. A team from Tufts University earlier this year showed off a 4-inch (10-centimeter) caterpillar-shaped robot made of silicone rubber that can curl into a ball and propel itself forward.

The Harvard project, funded by the Pentagon’s research arm, was de-scribed online Monday in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

The new robot, which took two months to con-struct, is 5 inches (12.7 centimeters) long. Its four legs can be separately con-trolled by pumping air into the limbs, either manually or via computer. This gives the robot a range of mo-tions including crawling and slithering.

The researchers tested the robot’s flexibility by having it squirm under-neath a pane of glass just three-quarters of an inch from the surface. Scien-tists maneuvered the robot through the tiny gap 15 times using a combina-tion of movements. In most cases, it took less than a minute to get from side to side.

South Africa’s Treatment Action Campaign accused rich nations of using the crisis as an excuse. “This is not an issue of funding. It comes down to broken promises,” said Daygan Eager, of the Budget Expenditure Monitoring Forum, which campaigns for AIDS funding in southern Africa.

“In a crisis, donating to the Global Fund is not good politics,” Eager told a press conference in Johannesburg. The Global Fund is the world’s largest multilateral funder of AIDS, tuberculosis and

malaria programmes, and says its programmes have saved 7.7 mil-lion lives.

It has financed 70 percent of anti-retroviral drugs in the develop-ing world and is one of the major funders of medicine in sub-Saharan Africa, home to two thirds of all people living with AIDS.

The Netherlands, Denmark, Italy and the European Commis-sion reneged on funding commit-ments, while Germany is delaying disbursements, according to cam-paigners.

While a binding deal on harmful carbon output remains elusive by the world’s second biggest polluter after China, some small signs of progress in the United States have emerged at the state and individual levels.

Climate change denial still runs strong in US

On the US political stage, skepticism and denial of climate change are as popular as ever, and experts say that world talks which opened Monday in Durban, South Africa are unlikely to turn the tide. But while a binding deal on harmful carbon output remains elusive by the world’s second biggest polluter after China, some small signs of progress have emerged at the state and individual levels.

“If I train hard and keep trainingthe way I do, I don’t think there’sanybody out there who can beatme,” Khan said on Monday.

Khan, 26-1 with 18 knockouts, will defend his World Boxing As-sociation and International Box-ing Federation light-welterweighttitles on December 10 at Wash-ington against hometown heroLamont Peterson, 29-1-1 with 15knockouts.

“Our job is to beat him and moveon to bigger and better things,”Khan said. “This is going to takeme from being a good fighter to asuperstar. Beating Lamont Peter-son will hopefully make me one ofthe best fighters in the world.”

A victory by Khan, who has wonhis past eight fights, likely wouldlaunch the 24-year-old English-man into the welterweight divisionagainst such foes as Mayweather, who has yet to name an opponentfor his planned fight on May 5.

Mayweather’s insistence upontougher blood anti-doping tests, which helped scuttle a showdownwith Pacquiao, is no worry for Khan, who faces random tests in Britain andknows them from his 2004 Olympiclightweight silver medal days.

Roger Federer says he is “very excited” about

optimism and with the mental scars of some painful defeats ap-parently healed.

The Swiss won his last grand slam title at the 2010 AustralianOpen and was overshadowed by Novak Djokovic, Rafa Nadal andto a lesser degreeAndy Murray this year but after winning a recordsixth ATP World Tour Finals title on Sunday, he looks primed fora new assault on major silverware.

Despite being the elder statesman of the “Big Four” at 30,Federer ended 2011 on a roll. He was unbeaten since the U.S. Open, claimed a hat-trick of indoor titles and stretched his winning streakto 17 matches. His resurgence, he said, comes after having a long, hard look at himself in the wake of a series of shattering defeats.

Nadal, squandered a two-set advantage against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga

“I think it was a mental thing,” Federer told reporters after fend-

Hamilton’s current deal with McLaren runs out at the end of next season, and there has been speculation he could then be in the frame for a switch to Red Bull Racing ever since he held secret talks with its team principal Christian Horner at the Canadian Grand Prix.

But even though McLaren has already tied down Jenson Button’s long-term future, it appears that a decision on Hamilton’s plight will now wait until the 2012 campaign is under way.

When asked by AUTOSPORT about

the Hamilton contract situation going forward, Whitmarsh said: “We will see. Lewis and ourselves are in a really good place, and he is in a good place. He loves the team, we know him well, so we are not putting any timeframe on it. “We will see what happens in the course of the next year. There is plenty of time.”

Hamilton was widely quoted by the British media on Tuesday as saying that he was happy to wait too - so both parties would have a better idea of how much they have recovered from the trials of

this season.“I am in no rush,” he said. “I don’t think

there is any real pressure about my com-mitment to the team so there is no rush to have to do anything. Just focus on the next stage. “Martin [Whitmarsh, McLaren’s team principal] has spoken to me about re-signing already. I know it is there. At some stage, when we have time, we will sit down and discuss it. Again, the most important thing is to focus on the season ahead.

“I feel positive about it. I feel for-tunate to be in the position I am in. I still feel very, very fortunate about the opportunities I have ahead of me and I feel fortunate I have still got a year left on my contract.”

RENAULT has announced that Kimi Raikkonen will return to For-mula 1 racing next year, after securing a two-year deal to compete with the squad. Raikkonen, who had left For-mula 1 at the end of the 2009 season after being dropped by Ferrari, had been in talks with the Williams team about a possible return next year, but the deal fell through.

That promted speculation of a Renault tie-up, with team principal Eric Boullier confirming in Brazil last weekend that the Finn was on the shortlist of candidates for 2012 - when his outfit will be renamed Lotus.

Speaking about his return, Raik-konen said: “I’m delighted to be coming back to Formula 1 after a two-

year break, and I’m grateful to Lotus Renault GP for offering me this op-portunity. My time in the World Rally Championship has been a useful stage in my career as a driver, but I can’t deny the fact that my hunger for F1 has recently become overwhelming.

“It was an easy choice to return with Lotus Renault GP as I have been impressed by the scope of the team’s ambition. Now I’m looking forward to playing an important role in pushing the team to the very front of the grid.”

Team owner Gerard Lopez added: “All year long, we kept saying that our team was at the start of a brand new cycle. Backstage we’ve been work-ing hard to build the foundations of a successful structure and to ensure that

we would soon be able to fight at the highest level.

“Kimi’s decision to come back to Formula 1 with us is the first step of several announcements which should turn us into an even more serious contender in the future. Of course, we are all looking forward to working with a world champion. On behalf of our staff, I’d like to welcome Kimi to Enstone, a setting that has always been known for its human approach to Formula 1.”

Raikkonen, 32, moved from For-mula 1 to the World Rally Champion-ship in 2010, where he spent the last two seasons while also competing in one race of the NASCAR Truck series and one Nationwide event.

McLaren is in no rush to sort out a fresh contract extension with Lewis Hamilton, despite suggestions the former world champion is ready to commit his future to the Woking-based outfit.
