EDISON TOWNSHIP TO SPONSOR

FISHING DERBY

Edison) – Mayor Thomas Lankey, the Edison Council, the Edison PBA Local 75, The New Jersey

Department of Fish and Wildlife, and the Edison Recreation Department announce their 2021 version of

the always popular Family Fishing Derby, on Saturday, June 5, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., at Lake

Papaianni in Papaianni Park, Edison. Licenses will not be required for Free Fishing Day. After June 5th, all

anglers between the ages of 16 and 69 must have a current fishing license and trout stamp. There is a

$10.00 entry fee; however, the event is free to Edison Residents age 65 and over.

Again this year, there will be a special “Kids Only Derby” for any registered children up to 15 years

of age. This “Kid’s Only” event will be held from 9:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m., before the full Derby gets underway

at 9:30 a.m.

Lake Papaianni will be stocked with trout for the event, and prizes will be awarded in both Derbies

to the male or female who catches the first fish, and to all those who catch one of many specially tagged

fish. This is a rain or shine event. All Derby registrants may continue to fish throughout the season. If a

tagged fish is caught after the Derby, you may bring the cleaned tag to the Recreation Office at 100

Municipal Blvd., Edison, where you will receive a prize.

Edison PBA, Local #75 will once again help sponsor the event by donating free refreshments to

registered anglers.

At Frank J. Papaianni, Jr. Memorial Park (Lake Papaianni) Saturday, June 5, 2021 – Rain or Shine

9:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. - Kids Only Derby* 9:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. - Main Derby

ENTRY FEE IS $10.00 EDISON RESIDENTS AGE 65 & OVER FREE

Entry fee for this event is $10.00 per participant. June 5th

is New Jersey Free Fishing Day. No fishing

license is required, for this day only. After June 5th

, all anglers between the ages of 16 and 69 must have a

current fishing license and trout stamp. All those registered for this event can continue to fish for prizes

throughout the season. After the Derby, if a tagged fish is caught, contact the Recreation Office for prize

information at 732-248-7310.

Lake Papaianni will be stocked with Brook and Rainbow Trout for the event. Any registered fishing derby participant, who

catches a tagged fish, will be eligible for a prize. There will be 200 fish tagged for the event. You must bring your own

fishing equipment and bait.

Edison PBA Local #75 has donated FREE refreshments for all anglers.

*THE RECREATION DEPARTMENT WILL HOST A “KIDS ONLY” DERBY TO OPEN THE EVENT FROM

9:00 A.M. - 9:30 A.M. Any child between the ages of 1 and 15, registered in the main derby, will have an opportunity to

catch specially tagged fish placed in the lake by the Recreation Department and PBA Local 75 and win a prize.
